To put a note asking them to move their car?

It’s been outside our house for 4/5 weeks. I don’t know who it belongs too. I resisted at first in case they were isolating but it’s bugging me now. Especially as it gets towards Christmas, we will be coming from parents house with a car load of presents and we keep having to park far up the road. We have a 3 year old dd. Just to say, I don’t think the space is ours but think it’s inconsiderate leaving it outside someone else’s house for so long?!

YABU - it’s a free country, get over it
YANBU - leave a polite note on the car

Mine hasn't moved for weeks as I've been too unwell to drive.

NeutralJanet · 20/12/2020 15:12

Will they see a note if its never been moved in weeks though?

damnthemanatee · 20/12/2020 15:12

Unless there is any sort of allocated parking then you have no right to ask for it to be moved.

Sennetti · 20/12/2020 15:13

There’s 2 of you to carry in the presents

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 20/12/2020 15:15

YABU

SageRosemary · 20/12/2020 15:15

Possibly worth asking your local police station has it been reported stolen. Is the tax, insurance, NCT up to date?

Openalltheadvent · 20/12/2020 15:15

@Sennetti there won’t be as my dp is working

dontdisturbmenow · 20/12/2020 15:17

Have you checked if the car is taxed and insured?

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 20/12/2020 15:18

Do you think they will even see the note?

Openalltheadvent · 20/12/2020 15:19

It’s taxed and MOT’d

Re seeing the note- it’s a row of terraces so I imagine they are close by

When this happened to me, I reported it to the local police station.

It was a stolen car that had been dumped!

I’ve done it again since. That one was leaking fuel and a fire hazard. The owner couldn’t afford to repair it so dumped it on the nearest side street.

MaskingForIt · 20/12/2020 15:20

Breeding and being rampant consumerists doesn’t give you a free parking space. If you want to park by your front door, buy a house with a drive.

People in flats will have to carry their presents and children much further.

Openalltheadvent · 20/12/2020 15:21

@ProudAuntie76 I never considered this, thank you. I’ve not seen this car before

OP posts:
Charlie63849 · 20/12/2020 15:21

You don’t own the road and can’t tell people where to parkHmm

Jobsharenightmare · 20/12/2020 15:22

I reported one outside my elderly relatives and it had been stolen too. I called the non emergency number and the police took it away.

Openalltheadvent · 20/12/2020 15:22

@MaskingForIt I see your point. Doesn’t stop it being a pain

HikeForward · 20/12/2020 15:22

If you don’t have a drive you can’t expect to be guaranteed a parking spot outside your house.
Anyone can legally park there for as long as they like.
How will they see the note if they haven’t been back to the car? Maybe they’re ill or settled in for Xmas.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 20/12/2020 15:24

In my experience with terraced houses people park wherever they can. Where is your car parked if it's not outside your own house? Outside someone else's house? Maybe they're also currently composing an identical MN parking thread. It's a thing you surely learn to live with if you live in a row of houses where the only option is to park on the street. Jeez, when I lived in a terrace I sometimes had to park two streets away.

ProudAuntie76 · 20/12/2020 15:24

If it’s not stolen, the police will at least have the details for the owners and can enquire as to what might be going on. If it’s not dodgy, that might shame them into moving.

Both times I reported it, I’d never seen anyone go in and out of the vehicle etc. It was obviously unattended for a month, hence my reporting.

Ellmau · 20/12/2020 15:25

Put a Police Aware notice on it?

SpudsandGravy · 20/12/2020 15:27

YANBU. Report it to the police as abandoned.

This, pretty much.

what do you mean whats going on you can park where you like!
Nottherealslimshady · 20/12/2020 15:27

If you've never seen the car before I'd report to police. Could be stolen and they're waiting for it to cool down.

What's parking like on your street? Could they be from fairly far away and had to park there if it's a busy street?

Openalltheadvent · 20/12/2020 15:27

@Dontfuckingsaycheese did I not say this in my op? I don’t think I own the road or space/accept this about terrace houses.
I would never leave it outside someone else’s house for 5 weeks. It’s called being considerate
