To think this might be the end of the Tory party?

I’m not a Tory voter but do you think being known as he party “that stole Christmas” is going to finish off the conservatives?

So much faffing and changing of direction - how will anyone trust them again?

OP posts:
goldenharvest · 20/12/2020 09:34

Yes, and then we can vote for another party who we know would have had to do exactly the same thing. Grow up and stop being ridiculous

HighSpecWhistle · 20/12/2020 09:36

What's wrong with changing direction? I mean, it's an evolving situation and therefore the response needs to evolve too.

You can't just expect one rule for a pandemic that goes on for a year plus. That would be archaic and ineffective.

I suspect Boris left it so late to help the economy and businesses - and for that I don't really blame him.

MarshaBradyo · 20/12/2020 09:44

Wales is having a tough time

Any party here would be getting hammered by this situation

Lindy2 · 20/12/2020 09:44

What a strange post. Do you really think "Christmas has been stolen " simply to be nasty?

The new rules hurt but surely anyone with even half a brain can see they are necessary to save lives. Whoever was in charge would need to do this regardless of the party they represent.

Boris's error was probably to have not done it sooner and the 5 day relaxation was always too much. He hoped things would be better. It shows strength, not weakness, to go back and correct a mistake and that's what he's done.

PhilCornwall1 · 20/12/2020 09:48

He's U-turned more times than a lost driver, you'd have though he'd have learned by now to stop putting himself in the situation where he has to do that, but he hasn't. That's not a strength.

Lindy2 · 20/12/2020 09:50

No one can predict what this virus does. The best plans are always ones that are flexible and change as needed.

PinkiOcelot · 20/12/2020 09:51

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will.

ILoveYoga · 20/12/2020 09:52

You mean as opposed to not doing anything and then have even more people die?
You do realise the government didn’t create this pandemic?

I do despair of some people

TheABC · 20/12/2020 09:56

The Tory party will only die when the donors desert them.
However, Boris is a useful a scapegoat and he will remain in place until sufficient mud has stuck that allows his predecessor to place the blame on brexit/covid-19/ cronyism/insert crisis here.

borntohula · 20/12/2020 09:56

I saw a headline the other day along the lines of 'PM on track to ruin Christmas for thousands' which made me chuckle. I'm also not a Tory voter but come on. Poor BJ.

Winebottle · 20/12/2020 09:57

People will soon forget one Christmas but maybe not the economic consquences.

Doubt it will finish the Conservatives though. It's been nearly hundred years since the two party system had its last shake up and I would guess Conservative voters are less likely to change their vote than those of other parties.

ScrambledSmegs · 20/12/2020 09:58

My DPs are furious with the way it's all been handled. They think Boris is a weak leader who has belatedly reacted at every turn, instead of being proactive. They hate the dangling of the family Christmas carrot before whipping it away at the last minute (as they see it).

They're lifelong Tory voters but I can't see them voting for the current shower again right now. They'd rather spoil their ballots.

That's how I think they keep fucking up as well. No one could have prevented the spread here imo but to keep getting people's hopes up about some kind of normality is irresponsible at the moment.
ChristmasinJune · 20/12/2020 10:08

God knows I'm no Tory voter but it's worth noting that we're not the only country who's Christmas plans are in tatters. The sad fact is that it is the virus that's ruining Christmas not the govt. Until we can get a vaccine fully rolled out we're pretty much powerless and isolation is the best tool we have.
I doubt Labour could have done much differently in the circumstances.

Nowaynothappening · 20/12/2020 10:09

It’s been completely shambolic from the beginning.

Chloemol · 20/12/2020 10:10

No

Because if you all opened your eyes and brains a little wider and read about what’s going on in other countries across the world all Governments are in the same position. However it also seems to me that residents of those other countries don’t moan, whinge and create hysteria as much as we do

Totally agree I am also sick of Labour politicians making sarcastic comments stiring the pot and generally being of new use at all
CakeRequired · 20/12/2020 10:23

As long as is also the end of the snp too, bring it on!

Agreed.

All of them have been bloody useless at their jobs. Stopping people visiting family, but not shops or pubs. Told people not to go on holiday, but allowed people into the country from other places with high rates. Fining people for breaking the rules, but not their own ministers. All of the government's are bloody useless, if we were this bad at our jobs, we'd be sacked. Angry

They should all lose their jobs and they should feel ashamed of themselves for how badly they've done.

MarshaBradyo · 20/12/2020 11:09

Listening to Starmer doing press conference

He is even more irritating

No nothing will finish the Tories. Plus there's no opposition Kier Starrmer
seems to agree and go along with everything Boris Johnson says.

Do you ever actually watch PMQ ? Also Keir.

Residents in all the other countries are moaning. The Germans are furious
Noshowlomo · 20/12/2020 11:13

🤞🏼 Hope so

Pinkfreesias · 20/12/2020 11:17

I sincerely hope so, but I doubt it. Johnson seems able to get away with everything.

megletthesecond · 20/12/2020 11:19

It won't be sadly.
No matter what they screw up people will still vote for them.

Brighterthansunflowers · 20/12/2020 11:31

I wish it was but considering they’ve clung on through the total shitshow of the last five years of brexit I would be surprised if the idiots who vote for them will remember this by 2024 when we have another chance to get rid of them
