William & Kate gone to Norfolk

If they did this after school ended in London did they do it after London had gone to tier 3?

OP posts:

Palava

Lockheart · 20/12/2020 12:57

I'm no expert and I know they have many places to stay, but isn't Amner Hall their main residence? If they went back when it was Tier 2 I don't see the problem.

EmilyinWolverhampton · 20/12/2020 12:59

The "sense of duty" argument sort of works for Will, since he was born into it and raised with a huge weight of expectation and responsibility since birth, but how does it apply to Kate?

If Kate didn't want the massive responsibility of having to occasionally go and shake hands and be made a fuss of (or go to Wimbledon or a celeb party and include it in their work event numbers) she shouldn't have stalked William for years then hung on for dear life for ten years trying to get him to marry her - and pointedly not working - just because she was desperate to be queen.

Kate isn't some naïf like Diana, seduced into joining the RF as a vulnerable teenage girl. She was a nearly 30-year-old woman and had seen life as a Royal first hand for more than ten years when she got married, and she's the one who did all the chasing. She knew the score, was given the easiest ride available (all those years of being allowed to live quietly in Wales/London and not work, all those years of positive media campaigns promising Kate was really keen/doing princess training/deffo about to start working hard next year next year next year) and yet still, after 20 years, doesn't even do the bare minimum.

I don't blame them for going to Norfolk but this pandemic should have been an easy PR win for the royals and the modern day equivalent of the RF remaining in London during WWII and the Queen working as a mechanic and a volunteer truck driver. That showed genuine grit and dedication and a willingness to get stuck in and be humble. And due to the fact the current crisis is not a war but a viral contagion they didn't even need to do what the Queen did and literally get their hands dirty (quite the opposite lol!). If all the senior royals had just visibly stayed home, supported and promoted the government's messages and rules rather than doing stupid shit like prancing all over the country maskless or travelling to Scotland after testing positive, and made better use of social media and video technology, they could have turned whole thing to their favour. I can't remember when the RF has fucked up so badly or caused more bad feeling and negative PR.

FreshfieldsGal · 20/12/2020 13:08

*I'm tired of this lot too. This pandemic has taught us a lot about society, and high up on the list is just how little the Royal Family actually do. Kate and Wills are the worst of the lot, though don't get me started on the Old Boot and her racist husband. The country has gone from crisis to crisis, yet the radio silence from this shambles is deafening. A jaunt on a train when they were asked not to, is not my idea of raising morale.

Bring on the Republic*

EmilyinWolverhampton · 20/12/2020 13:08

Off topic but the Duchess of Kent is an amazing woman!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/12/2020 13:12

Are their kids in private?

Is the Pope Catholic?

HitthatroadJack · 20/12/2020 13:13

They went in the first lockdown at a time when it was specifically asked of everybody NOT to go to their holiday home

why would anyone think they were going to do any different now Confused

It was clear weeks ago they would spend Christmas with the Middleton, rules or no rules.

I agree with the poster above, of all the times they could have shown some kind of dedication or at least effort, the last few months were one of them. They clearly don't even care enough to bother. Worry not, as soon as Film Premieres and fun things will restart, we'll see a lot more of them.

PicsInRed · 20/12/2020 13:16

Where do their kids attend school? London.

Where is the main "Duke of Cambridge" office?
Kensington Palace.

Their main home is London. Their holiday home is Norfolk.

Roussette · 20/12/2020 13:35

@CathyorClaire
That you, Gan-Gan?

I really laughed at that. Horrible Bosses, has to be!

They should've stayed in London like everyone else has to. Unlike others, old Bojo would've given them the nod beforehand so they could skedaddle to Norfold before any restrictions.

A royal source told the Mirror: “William and Kate wanted to get out of London to have a proper break over Christmas."

Lovely Hmm

viques · 20/12/2020 13:50

@RubyViolet

Last Christmas Boris was on Mustique with Carrie, bet they are missing their freebie this year. Bless their little cotton socks.
I wonder if they will go for an eye testing drive to Chequers? And I also wonder if Chequers has been beautifully adorned with Christmas trees and fairy lights pending their arrival/non arrival .

I know decorating the place is peanuts to the public purse in comparison to the billions that has been squandered on container loads of un useable PPE, but it sticks in my craw.

notafanoftheman · 20/12/2020 13:54

The other side of that coin is having to dress up and go out even if you don't feel like it, shake hands with loads of strangers and sound interested in what they're saying, make the speech before going for your millionth cardboard chicken lunch and again making polite conversation with strangers, before moving on to do it all again at least three times a day

Meh. They could always give it up. And three times a day? According to official records, prominent members of the royal family worked an average of 84.5 days this year, or about a third of the 253 working days in the U.K.

Roussette · 20/12/2020 14:00

So they have to dress up, big deal. Who wouldn't like their make up done, and put on clothes that have been specially bought for you to wear, never having to trawl the shops to buy them.... how easy is that.
Then shake hands with people, act interested, ask a few relevant questions that have been supplied for you and then go home.
Hardly tricky

They do not do this three times a day Monday to Friday.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/12/2020 14:01

I live 130 miles from London. Last week lots of people working in, kids schooling in London, came home for Christmas. Just as they do for every holiday..

They live here. They may be vilified locally for not living and working here, but here is their home.

Want to hate on them too?

notafanoftheman · 20/12/2020 14:06

Are they sponging millions from hard pressed taxpayers too?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/12/2020 14:08

Tax payers money? That one again?

As usual... I'll get my coat. Leave you to your spleen venting.

notafanoftheman · 20/12/2020 14:10

Yes of course I should have acknowledged the stunning originality of your own argument 🧐

shrill · 20/12/2020 14:12

@Orcadianrythyms

I feel so sad about all the apologists on here for this bunch. They are a disgrace and if it was just about them then I'd just roll my eyes and move on BUT they have staff and entourages whose jobs and livelihoods depend on facilitating these idiots. If their only role is to provide a sense of national pride and we're all in this together ness then they need sacked. In fact after the Queen passes they should all be binned. She at least seems to understand civic duty and decency. Don't even get me started on the professional adultress popping up on Strictly last night ..... As if yesterday wasn't bad enough Angry
This ^^ & I can't help noticing how the tiers change shortly after they've completed their "duty" train trip, panto, but Charles and Cam individually just obliged with onscren contributions.
movingonup20 · 20/12/2020 14:14

Private schools finished over a week ago here, they may have travelled before London went to tier 3

This! Hardly taxing. Not my idea of hard working.
Roussette · 20/12/2020 14:22

Yep. They hardly have to think 'oh hell, I have to go and open new charity HQ and my coat is a bit tatty, I need to drive to a shopping centre to get a new smart one, I hope they have my size and it isn't too expensive, and I really need my shoes heeling. Then I ought to try and get an appointment at the hairdressers... oh damn, I've left it too late and my roots are showing. And now I need to research this charity so I can give a speech'

Everything is done for them, they do not have to lift a finger except turn up and smile and shake hands.

sammylady37 · 20/12/2020 14:25

No thanks

All of us who work have to get up and dressed and go out to work even if we don’t feel like it. Most of us don’t have our clothes chosen for us, laundered, ironed and presented to us though, we have to do those chores ourselves on top of our work.
Shaking hands with people and feigning interest in what they’re saying is neither mentally nor physically challenging. Plenty people do it day in, day out for a lot less reward than the royals.
Reading a speech someone rude has written- easy.
Eating lunch, easy. And i guarantee you the lunch won’t consist of crusty-edged sambos and stale crisps.
And you think they do this ‘at least three times a day’? Lol.

dingledongle · 20/12/2020 14:25

Kids saw the Pant

Then went on their hols to the Country 🤣

Just like us you know!

Watch out on Boxing day they will be off shooting birds 🦅😫

dingledongle · 20/12/2020 14:26

Panton

dingledongle · 20/12/2020 14:26

Panto GrinGrin

sammylady37 · 20/12/2020 14:26

^a speech someone else has written, not someone rude! Though that might make proceedings somewhat more interesting than the bland platitudes normally spouted
