If they did this after school ended in London did they do it after London had gone to tier 3?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 20/12/2020 11:02

it looks very much as though they are not doing so.

How? They left to go to where they usually spend all the holidays before tier 3 and well before Tier 4.

notafanoftheman · 20/12/2020 11:05

I know one MP whose child went to a private school before being arrested - Dianne Abbott, hero of the left.

Classy.

Peregrina · 20/12/2020 11:10

Well, more to the point since we are not allowed to criticise the second in line to the throne and his fashion plate wife, how about asking where our Dear PM has gone? Did he bunk off to Chequers PDQ before last night?

lemonsquashie · 20/12/2020 11:22

London was in Tier 2 last Monday, tier 3 from Thursday? Tier 4 on Sunday

So unless anyone knows exactly which day they travelled; we can't be sure they have broken any rules

BringPizza · 20/12/2020 11:23

I don't understand the consternation about W&K going to Norfolk. All the other London/COVID threads are full of MNers saying Boris can fuck off, they'll do what they want at Christmas- and people are getting upset about 2 others who have done the same but before the restrictions even came in?

MangoFeverDream · 20/12/2020 11:26

They do work hard, how many of us would want their jobs. There's no point in comparing different types of jobs

Considering not one of them have willingly quit the RF, I’d say it’s a pretty cushy number. Not Prince Edward in his day, not PH and certainly not PA. They were all forced out ...

And PW is certainly welcome to step aside and allow one of his many relatives to take over if he preferred to be a private citizen. Yet he doesn’t.

Roussette · 20/12/2020 11:30

Oh purleeeease.... a few zoom calls, and hopping on and off a luxurious train shaking hands is NOT work.

I have nothing against them as a couple of human beings, I'm sure they're loving parents and nice people... but please let's not pretend they work hard. That is complete and utter bollocks.

Peregrina · 20/12/2020 11:30

The only member of the RF who did step back was the Duchess of Kent, who had married into the family. She had been a very popular figure and stepped back mostly for personal reasons and then quietly got on with helping out at a local school, without any fuss.

If their jobs are that shitty they could always give them up.

Give these kids a break

That you, Gan-Gan?

BrieAndChilli · 20/12/2020 11:33

When they went they went according to the rules at that precise time and in good faith (eg not at 11pm last night knowing that London was going into tier 4)
They are now in thier own home, not staying with family so I don’t really see any difference if they stay there or come back to London. Really doesn’t affect anyone. Plus if they come back to London they will need staff to go out and about to get things ready , cars and drivers and petrol stops, cleaning staff to come in and re-open up their London residence etc so possibly my causing more contact points for covid to spread.

PicsInRed · 20/12/2020 11:35

William & Kate gone to Norfolk

Of course they have.

Who wants to take bets on whether they'll still be in Norfolk if Nolfolk goes into Tier 8? Or will they have left a few days earlier.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 20/12/2020 11:36

Their jobs would bore me rigid but then my own job does too, so on that basis I’m willing to swap. Don’t fancy being married to Wills though or having my appearance picked apart every time I leave the house so I’m opting out there - I’ll be Princess Anne please. No one has ever started a thread about her whereabouts.

FreekStar · 20/12/2020 11:36

Hard work isn't all about physical graft- often it's the weight of responsibility and pressure that warrants rewards. How many of us would truly want to live in the spotlight like they do? Not only are they held accountable by the state, but by the world's media and the population of not just the uk but people all over the entire world? Would you want to have your details and Christmas plans scrutinised and discussed in public forums, the subject on the days headlines and the discussion i household all over the country?

PicsInRed · 20/12/2020 11:38

Their kids attend school in London and their work base office (K Palace) is in London. They spend the majority of the year there. London is their primary residence.

Norfolk is their 2nd home.

Again ... no one seems to leave willingly so it must be a pretty sweet gig. If PW didn’t want this for himself and his kids, he’d step back for sure. So could the York girls, easily. But he hasn’t. And they haven’t. Says everything really.
FreekStar · 20/12/2020 12:07

@UsedUpUsername Have you ever considered that members of the royal family feel a sense of duty and responsibility to the country, their family and the long established historical traditions they are continuing?

There are lots of people who have jobs full of responsibility and hard work which they don't abandon for an easier life. Many people are proud of their hard work, many careers involve personal sacrifices.

Peregrina · 20/12/2020 12:18

I think the Queen most certainly feels a sense of duty. I think that Princess Anne is genuinely committed to her charity work, although I suspect she does it because she enjoys it and not just out of a sense of duty.

As for the rest? I am not sure about them.

Long establish traditions - mostly a late 19th century and early 20th construct.

notafanoftheman · 20/12/2020 12:24

Weight of responsibility? For reading a two-page briefing in a chauffeur driven car then reading out a speech someone else wrote before heading off for an agreeable lunch? Pull the other one.

What is this pablum?

PW/PH are cut from the same cloth and have little sense of duty. They clearly enjoy the perks and make minimal effort. ‘Hard work’ and ‘responsibility’ are two traits I do not associate with that generation.

I used to think PH actually cared, but his recent missteps make me think he just had a good team behind him.

The less said about PA the better.

PC is the only one who seems to have this ‘duty’ you talk about, but he’s also quite transparently meddlesome.

CathyorClaire · 20/12/2020 12:39

Arf.

The only thing the royals have a sense of duty and responsibility towards is maintaining their vice like grip on the lifestyle and perks.

The other side of that coin is having to dress up and go out even if you don't feel like it, shake hands with loads of strangers and sound interested in what they're saying, make the speech before going for your millionth cardboard chicken lunch and again making polite conversation with strangers, before moving on to do it all again at least three times a day. No thanks.
RelightMyPfizer · 20/12/2020 12:44

@forwardsbackwardsrebound

It was just an excuse for Kate to air her old coats. Grin That made me laugh, thank you! So true.
Moths are big problem in old houses. She was just trying to help her dresser and housekeeper out.
RelightMyPfizer · 20/12/2020 12:47

I don’t get the hatred. They’re just people. They haven’t actually broken any rules or done anything wrong. So, why is this even being discussed?

Because they broke the rules last time and tried to hush it up. People are interested if they have done the same again.

likeamillpond · 20/12/2020 12:52

Didn't the royal familyvnsist on staying in the capital during the War

Where's their blitz spirit?
They don't make em like they used to.

likeamillpond · 20/12/2020 12:54

The royal family must be secretly loving this pandemic.
No royal engagements for a year!
They're getting a nice break from all the fuss and palace.
Don't blame them.

I would hate their jobs.
