Pajama bottoms with backside seams are unhygenic

Fangtiger · 18/12/2020 11:10

Am I the only person who has a problem with the backside seam on pajama bottoms? The seam goes up my bum so I end up wearing night time knickers underneath to stop that happening and to stop having to wash my pjs every day. Do pj bottoms without a backside seam exist? Someone told me M&S had some, but can't find them.

Pants on while sleeping??? I have some questions.. do you change with day time/night time pants?

Yes, I have a shower in the morning and wear clean clothes. When I change for bed I change everything, so pants included.

I'd wear pants during the day if I was wearing pyjamas on a slovenly Saturday. But otherwise why would you wear pants at night apart from during your period??? What hygiene issues?

Because I prefer to? It's not even that weird. From reading threads about this over the years it's probably a 50/50 split when asking PJ wearers about their choice of pants or no pants.

CrotchBurn · 18/12/2020 11:51

@MrsGrindah
I can’t sleep without knickers on otherwise I feel like I might wet the bed! I’ve no idea why.

That is fucking hilarious!

CrotchBurn · 18/12/2020 11:51

I hope those of you using fresh daily PJs realise you are helping to kill the planet with excess laundry!

MizMoonshine · 18/12/2020 11:52

If you are wearing your PJs without pants then they are effectively your underwear and you should absolutely be washing them after every use.
In fact, you should wash your PJs every time you wear them anyway. Humans can sweat up to 3 pints per night. Your jammies are a breeding ground!

Meowchickameowmeow · 18/12/2020 11:53

What the heck are 'night time' knickers? I just own knickers, they don't specify what time of day they should be worn.

This is so bloody boring. It's normal to wash both our bodies and our clothes. Stop the virtue signalling over people washing dirty stuff.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/12/2020 11:55

It's not the seam - I think they are just skimping on material and/or figuring we want tight-fitting PJ's - the whole bum area is smaller - also, often the waist is more in the hip area. I treasure some old baggy pairs I have because I struggle to find any comfy ones these days.

IcedPurple · 18/12/2020 11:58

Washing PJs every single day? That would be a full-time job.

I have a dedicated collection of 'night knickers' - ie, knickers that have been around the block a few times but are still OK to do duty as a barrier between myself and my PJs. That way I can get a couple of nights out of my PJs. Washing the whole lot every day seems wasteful.

PercyPiginaWig · 18/12/2020 11:59

@Fangtiger

No, my pj bottoms are not too tight, in fact I get bigger sizes than I need. I know wearing knickers solves the problem but I hate wearing them 24/7 (I obviously change into clean night time knickers for bed). I remember mens pj bottoms didn't have seams in the old days and just wonder why no one sells them like that any more
Why is it obvious that you change into night time knickers, many people don't?

The first time I heard about fannies breathing at night was on a school trip in the dormitory playing jumping from bunk beds and we all saw one girl's bum because she was from a fanny breather family so wasn't wearing knickers with her nightie.

I sometimes wear knickers to bed and sometimes not, makes no difference to fanny breathing. I prefer the feeling of sleeping naked but in other people's houses I usually wear something.

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 18/12/2020 12:00

Do you have a significant ass crack for the pjs to wander up? Can't say that I've ever had the problem, but I wear knickers and pjs and SOCKS in bed.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/12/2020 12:01

I had this so I cut the seam out with a pair of scissors. I wouldn't recommend it though, it's not all its cracked up to be! Grin

MuckyPlucky · 18/12/2020 12:01

Oooh deffo no knickers on at night- you’ve got to let some air round the regions or you’re inviting thrush and general mankiness.

butterycooler · 18/12/2020 12:02

Just sleep in the nip. Problem solved.

Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 18/12/2020 12:03

... people wear knickers at night?!? Stop smothering your fanny!

I do nightdress and pantless?

It's not like cotton knickers form a hermetic seal with your bum. Your beknickred arse can still 'breathe'.

I'm not actually. I wash a maximum of two loads a week, but thank you for your concern.

I couldn't! I have an irrational fear of fire or break in or some other emergency in which Being Naked would be a disadvantage!

They do stop air circulation and prevent moisture from evaporating though. For most it won’t make a difference, but it is better for the area’s microbiome.

ComDummings · 18/12/2020 12:09

Knickers at night, with or without PJ bottoms. Sorted! How much ‘breathing’ (that phrase is horrible, the imagery...)is your fanny doing under a duvet anyway? Always worn knickers to bed, fresh ones every night, and only ever had thrush like twice and that was due to strong antibiotics.

fitbciz1 · 18/12/2020 12:09

Am I the only one wondering how it’s possible to make PJ bottoms without a crotch seam? How would that work?

CatVsChristmasTree · 18/12/2020 12:09

The only time I can sleep in knickers is when I'm on my period and need a pad. OJ bottoms are for lounging, I can't sleep in them as I prefer to sleep naked, but I will wear a nightie and can sleep in that.
I wash PJs every few days, certainly not every day. Unless I'm having a smelly fanny day (it's a thing! I blame hormones, can smell fine for days or whiffy a few hours after washing).

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/12/2020 12:10

I always wear pant under my pyjamas anyway. I think your PJ trousers are too tight.

AfterSchoolWorry · 18/12/2020 12:10

I have pants on at all times, except while in the shower.

White cotton for night and black cotton for day. I don't like the sensation of being pantless.

JinglingHellsBells · 18/12/2020 12:12

I have never worn PJs since I was about 12.
For me, they are for kids or men.

I prefer a nightie and nothing else.

If you do wear PJs you don't wear knickers as well, surely? Why?
Unless you aren't showering before bed or are oozing discharge all night long why wear two layers on your bottom half?

poshme · 18/12/2020 12:14

If I wear pants at night I get thrush.

I wear PJs for several nights before washing them.

But I also reuse towels for a week so apparently I'm minging according to half of MN.
