Is it reasonable to expect a Christmas dinner?

Is it reasonable to invite yourself over for christmas, not telling the person what day you intend to visit until a week before the day (will be the 23rd) and then expect more than a cup of tea, mincepies, biscuits, crisps and dip - basically expecting a christmas roast dinner (most likely 3 course). And feel put out and say you are been made to feel unwelcome if you dont get it?

@sueelleker To be fair isn't it normal for parents to invite themselves?

Normal in my family, although in our case it is siblings and cousins as all the older generation have now died. But we word it differently.

When DD and I wanted to visit my cousin who live two and a half hours away (this was last year) I just rang her and said "I would love to pop over and see you for a couple of hours. When is it convenient?" And her reply was "I'll make you some lunch. It will just be some cheese and some salad, is that OK?"

As DD is vegetarian I took some cheese with me because not all cheese is vegetarian. And we all had a good catch up.

@Ginfordinner @LovePoppy

I agree no one in my family would demand to come on a certain day and while the host would always try and make sure there was something nice to eat no one would be making demands - especially a three course roast!

You can relax now as most of the country will
Be in tier4 and the rest will be restricted to single mixing over Xmas. Problem solved and you are saved! They won’t be able to visit on 23rd now.

Relax and enjoy the 25th Grin

Well, the government has now put paid to Christmas dinner on any day other than the 25th.
