Just that really- AIB overly sensitive when DH mutters or says 'shut up' when I'm baby talking to our 5 month old DS. I realise it's probably quite insane to listen to because (this just happened) I use a baby voice when undressing him for bath and say 'it's bare butt time! It's bare butt time!' and DS is pissing himself laughing. But I just heard DH say shut up, and I just said 'I hear that from you a lot, it's just so upsetting'. I'm sat sulking now. I'm being pathetic right??

@RightYesButNo

Unicant “People who find the word 'butt' offensive even when said in a jokey way to a tiny baby are the same type of people who leave those plastic covers on their sofas, won't have a loo brush or a bin in the bathroom and tut at people who put out the recycling in their dressing gown. Im sure of it.” derxa That's so true. I have all these things. 'bare butt time' = common as muck. I can't help it. It's a visceral reaction. Otherwise OP you're doing a fine job.

I mean, the real question for me then, derxa, is do you ever get tired of insisting that it’s pronounced the Bouquet residence every time you pick up the telephone? Grin

People are conflating dislike of 'butt' with dislike of baby talk. I did the high-pitched, made-up words with repetitive syllables, silly songs and rhymes, the lot. As well as talking lots normally to my children. I still find 'butt' crude (not offensive - just crude) and 'bare butt time' a bit of an odd thing to say.

@PinkiOcelot

I personally hate baby talk. I talked to my babies obviously, but not in baby talk. It’s not necessary.
See, now I always hated baby talk and vowed to talk to my baby like a functioning human. But baby talk makes him smile and laugh and coo and babble back at me. He finds it funny and responds and mimics the perceived level of excitement in my voice. So now I’m a bit of a convert. Talking to him properly elicits nothing like the response of silly baby chat.

This is interesting.
Might be something to show your husband.

Bare butt time!

Yeah .... it’s annoying

I aim to entertain. Grin I used to be a SALT and know the vital role of motherese but... 'bare butt time' is an assault on the ears.

I would ramp up the baby talk. Big time! Every opportunity I would completely give it 110%!

Cheers to being a good sport. May your plastic covers keep your sofas spotless forever. Grin
