To think a woman wouldn't be praised for this like a man was

Seen this story a few times today about Tom Cruise screaming at crew members on the set of Mission Impossible 7 for not social distancing and threatening to fire them www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/entertainment-arts-55330579

The comments on social media are almost unanimously positive, lots of "good for him" "well done Tom" and "he's gone up in my estimation".

Any time I see something like this I imagine how the reaction would be if it was a story about a woman. If Nicole Kidman had done this I bet my bottom dollar she'd be branded a psycho, hysterical, over emotional, needs to calm down, who does she think she is speaking like that to those poor men etc.

FWIW I think he behaved appallingly if my boss screamed at me at work I'd have something to say about it.

But AIBU to think a woman would have been treated differently for doing the same thing?

She threatened people careers hardly "a fraction as aggressive as McEnroe"

The Serena Williams thing you're referring to was one incident. McEnroe in practically every match of his career shouted, whined, banged rackets, sulked, whinged and stropped.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:09

I'm not a misogynist.

You are sexist.

Oh boo hoo. Like I say you think it's up to ex-wives to still buy for their ex-husbands family, so forgive me if I don't take pointers on misogyny from you.

OP posts:
BrumBoo · 16/12/2020 18:10

Ahh. Is this different to the posters who either create or jump into threads to incite the bashing of men and create sexism when there isn't any , and accuse any women who dare to point this out of minimising , gaslighting or telling women they're imagining things?

Thank you for verifying my point.

Yes. The irony of posters you off on one at her - because ONE incident from a woman is worth more than a thousand from a man.

Someone I know was working on that film just before lockdown and TC wasn’t so keen on Covid safety then. A lot of the people felt under pressure to keep working and unavoidably mixing well after we in the U.K. were advised not to and that was pressure from the top. He’s a very intense character and I expect he was balling them out for loads of stuff because no one can put a foot wrong in any way when in his presence. They all got sacked (contractors) so I expect some are so desperate for some money they’ll put up with it again.

Wheresmykimchi · 16/12/2020 18:11
@FrippEnos o opinion on McEnroe then or is threatening violence only offensive when women do it?

Serena Williams is a WOC and has fought really hard to be where she is and still has an insane amount of non-tennis playing men who think they can beat her at tennis. And she was absolutely right in the game you mentioned - it's never nice to lose your temper but I really can't blame her.

Whereas McEnroe fought against every single thing when he rightly wasn't winning, like a giant toddler.
A WOC.

A good way to drum up a completely irrelevant point.

Your post there demonstrates the issue here.

Serena is a warrior , who worked so hard , tried her best , bur even heroes falter.

McEnroe was a toddler.

If a thread like that was posted the other way round , the man the warrior and the woman the toddler , you'd kick off.
Agenda.

I didn't actually say that. I said you were taking your feelings out on a child.

If your ex had posted the same thing I'd have said the same thing ...cause I'm not sexist.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:12

Also glummy - in the situation. In the same situation as Tom cruise. Exactly the same. Not just a random man doing a random thing

Oh so you want an identical situation 🤣🤣 you're ridiculous.

Go on then I don't believe Roxanne Pallet did a bad thing until you show me a male Big Brother contestant who wrongly accused of being hit on the arm by a woman. Until to give me one you are wrong and a poo poo head

BTW @BrumBoo good to see you old buddy old pal Grin

Ahh we meet again.

Knew you'd be along . You must have been buzzing to see another title to get them hideous men bashed.

FrippEnos · 16/12/2020 18:13

GlummyMcGlummerson

She has a record for it and has been fined for her behaviour, as have McEnroe and many other players male and female.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:14

A good way to drum up a completely irrelevant point

So racism and sexism are irrelevant?

Yep I'm calling MRA. And not a terribly bright one.

BTW who called Serena a warrior. She did throw a tantrum. But not a fraction of he times or the aggression that McEnroe did except he was a white man, and you can do the doe eyed obtuse thing all you like but male privilege and white privilege are a thing. Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable

He was accused of punching her several times in the ribs. Great point with Roxanne you tried there but I didn't say that was sexist cause it isn't. I pointed out that while you and your wee pals are riding the waves of feminism, you are enabling situations like that where nobody could be seen to disbelieve her.

Do you understand what sexism is?

Unfair treatment based on your sex.

You therefore need two things which are fair comparisons. I'm not the only poster to have told you that .

Is the umpire racist and sexist now as well then?

I'm not doe eyed, that's you. Prancing about as if women are this vulnerable poorly done to class of society and men are these big monsters and anyone who disagrees is a terrible woman. It's embarassing. And does feminism no favours.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:16

I didn't actually say that. I said you were taking your feelings out on a child.

No, I was refusing to buy for a non-family member on the basis that the only reason I'd be doing it is because my useless ex refused to. Sorry I'm not a handmaiden and everything (not really sorry I did the right thing saying no)

If your ex had posted the same thing I'd have said the same thing ...cause I'm not sexist

Liar.

If a man posted saying "my ex wife's sister has asked me to get her kids presents as ex wife refuses to" you'd simper and tell him how awful she is thank god he got out.

OP posts:
Wheresmykimchi · 16/12/2020 18:17

Il cope with being called not bright @GlummyMcGlummerson from a sexist still prattling on months later because you had to take to MN to ask whether or not to buy a present and didn't like the responses ...

shrill · 16/12/2020 18:17

In these circumstances I think she would but only because I understand his utter despair and frustration, and I have never sworn or screamed at anyone but felt like doing it recently Sad

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:17

@Wheresmykimchi false accusations are so vanishingly rate that even you could

That's a fact BTW - it has been quantified by the department of justice.

How can you call me a liar? You've no idea what I'd post Grin

You see, I know this takes some understanding , but I wouldn't. I'd take the same viewpoint. Becuase I have the same beliefs.....regardless of sex. Because I'm. Not. Sexist.

FrippEnos · 16/12/2020 18:18

And she was absolutely right in the game you mentioned

So right that she should be able to threaten violence against another woman?

And as you seem to need to know what I think of McEnroe.

He is a first class dick, and is that Australian player that so many seem to love at the moment.

but neither absolve SW of what she has threatened to do to people just doing their jobs.

Ooft be careful. Glummy will have you for being racist and sexist for that one.
GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:19

@Wheresmykimchi false accusations are so vanishingly rate that even you could only think of one. I could give you dozens of male celebrities who've actually raped and beaten women who still have career

That's a fact BTW about the low false accusation - it has been quantified by the department of justice. I could send you a link - but I strongly suspect you're not interested in anything that refutes your point that feminists are sexist meanies
