To think a woman wouldn't be praised for this like a man was

Seen this story a few times today about Tom Cruise screaming at crew members on the set of Mission Impossible 7 for not social distancing and threatening to fire them www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/entertainment-arts-55330579

The comments on social media are almost unanimously positive, lots of "good for him" "well done Tom" and "he's gone up in my estimation".

Any time I see something like this I imagine how the reaction would be if it was a story about a woman. If Nicole Kidman had done this I bet my bottom dollar she'd be branded a psycho, hysterical, over emotional, needs to calm down, who does she think she is speaking like that to those poor men etc.

FWIW I think he behaved appallingly if my boss screamed at me at work I'd have something to say about it.

But AIBU to think a woman would have been treated differently for doing the same thing?

They were not following written protocol ie Health and Safety they deserved a bollocking, I would have had them on a warning myself

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 17:56

@FrippEnos so did McEnroe, along with good old fashioned physical violence. And he gets sponsorship deals over it

Because there are no sides. That's why

Hahahaha. Bless your heart that you believe men are on our side

Serena constantly screams about 'you are doing this because I am a WOMAN'. Nothing to do with her breaking the rules.

Well she has a point.

@GlummyMcGlummerson

It's not fighting against sexism.

These threads are sexist towards men and you know it.

Yes, it is fighting against sexism.

Challenging patriarchal standards isn't sexist.

Then again I don't know why I'm taking someone seriously who showed on a previous thread that she thinks women should be sending presents to her ex-husbands family when he can't be arsed to, and that the wife work shouldn't stop at divorce.

Not what I said one bit , I think I objected more to you denying a child but make up what you will .

Women siding with 'tbeir own is exactly the reason why dangerous characters like Roxanne Pallett got as far as they did.

I don't side with genders. I side with fair.

Based on some of the threads I've read recently I wouldn't be on women's side either if I was a man.

She doesn't have a point. She's a spoilt brat.

But you have an agenda. Carry on man bashing , based upon speculation of what treatment a non existent woman would or wouldn't have had. I'm sure the chorus of women who love a good bitch about men will be along to support you soon.

I actually don't know about this one OP. The real sexist issue here is that there are no comparable women in the industry. Possibly (in terms of power) someone like Kathleen Kennedy?

It doesn't matter about the industry.

For glummy to have a point here she needs a comparison in the situation.

zzizz · 16/12/2020 18:01

mra is mens rights activists. Its a growing online movement generally (if you're ever fascinated, spend some time on reddit)

goopsoup · 16/12/2020 18:02

If only Nicole and Katie weren't under NDA.

zzizz · 16/12/2020 18:02

Well it matters a bit doesn't it, in that there is no Girly Equivalent of Cruise out there?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:02

Precisely - you saw that it was me denying a child a gift not exH whose relative it actually is. You can't see the problem in that?

Women siding with 'tbeir own is exactly the reason why dangerous characters like Roxanne Pallett got as far as they did.

And what about men like Harvey Weinstein, Mike Tyson, Donald Trump Johnny Depp...are women and their feminist ways to blame there too for their behaviour? Because as far as I can see these are criminals who've committed despicable acts who still have flying careers whereas Roxanne Pallett's career is over. Because of course violence against a woman isn't nearly as bad as claiming as man is violent ey

I don't side with genders. I side with fair.

We lived in a patriarchy, this stance is foolish AF and would t be returned by men

Funny how you go on about Williams but not a word about McEnroe's behaviour. Can to share what you think of him?

So threatening to shove a ball down a lines judges throat for calling a foot fault is physical violence?

Or are you just defending her due to her being female?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:04

What's an MRA? I'm sure il be fascinated

Gif I'm marking my internalised misogyny/MRA bingo card here

OP posts:
BrumBoo · 16/12/2020 18:04

@Wheresmykimchi, an MRA is a Men's Rights Activist. They jump into every and any thread that have any mere mention of men being talked about negatively, whilst also (subtlety or not) suggesting misogyny is either not a thing, or severely exaggerated. Also like to tell women they're imagining situations/realities in order to gain sympathy for their cause or to find offence where there is none.

HTH Smile.

'claiminf a man was violent ' 😂 AKA lying to make sure he never worked again. Minimising.

I didn't mention your exH because he didn't post the bloody thread!

I'd rather be foolish than a man bashing endless drone with an agenda who lives in la la land where men are bad and women are great. Every day of the week.

I've given you 2. It's not my fault if you don't agree with me, I'm not running out to find more because a misogynist wants to rip more examples apart

Ahh. Is this different to the posters who either create or jump into threads to incite the bashing of men and create sexism when there isn't any , and accuse any women who dare to point this out of minimising , gaslighting or telling women they're imagining things?

Also glummy - in the situation. In the same situation as Tom cruise. Exactly the same. Not just a random man doing a random thing.

He only worked again because there was a camera. We both know if there wasn't hed be finished, or tainted like the many others she falsely accused before them.

The feminism cause . You really make me laugh. People like you are the reason feminism gets a bad name - an excuse for sexist man haters to trump around throwing random things around.

You failed to mention in your earlier smug post that your present thread was unanimously , pretty much , YABU. So I'm not sure why you produced that one

GlummyMcGlummerson · 16/12/2020 18:08

@FrippEnos o opinion on McEnroe then or is threatening violence only offensive when women do it?

Serena Williams is a WOC and has fought really hard to be where she is and still has an insane amount of non-tennis playing men who think they can beat her at tennis. And she was absolutely right in the game you mentioned - it's never nice to lose your temper but I really can't blame her.

Whereas McEnroe fought against every single thing when he rightly wasn't winning, like a giant toddler.
