Pigs in blankets AIBU to think they are overrated?

I just don't get all of the fuss and hype over a greasy little sausage wrapped in a scrappy bit of bacon! I would much rather have an extra turkey on my plate instead. None of my family like them either, are we unusual or are there others out there who agree?

I love them but must be burnt mine I mean not dh.

But quality sausages from a decent butcher, wrapped in equally top quality smoked bacon are not the same as the greasy samples you encountered.

But they should still be greasy, just a better class of grease

However decent sausage and bacon for the pigs in blankets is about the best thing on the plate

Depends what’s in them. I make mine with best quality sausages cut into thirds, and wrapped in half a rasher of best U.K. streaky bacon - I won’t ever buy factory farmed Danish. Skewer in twos with a cocktail stick, freeze in advance. Very quick and dead easy to make as long as you’ve got a good sharp pair of kitchen scissors.

@lakesideadvent, if you’re going to try wrapping the turkey in whisky soaked bacon, keep the turkey well wrapped in foil and cook slowly on a low oven to stop the bacon burning. Just unwrap the turkey for the final 30 to 40 mins and turn up the oven to crisp the bacon.

Pigs in blankets & stuffing are the best bits of Christmas dinner. YABU

YANBU. Horrible greasy things wrapped in flabby bacon. Bacon fat should be crispy!
Good quality cocktail sausages , naked, are much nicer!

Prefer the blanket to the pig. Or pug.

If you don't like them, then don't get any.
We love them and we end up doing loads of them.

Always do sausages separately and I roll bacon up and cook on top of stuffing which has had an egg added to the mix.

We love them so much here they are our main meat of the meal now, I don't cook any other meat. We just have a huge pile of pigs in blankets with roast potatoes, mashed swede, sprouts and stuffing. Can't wait!

Can't stand the little monstrosities, way too pungent, fatty and salty, and this comes from someone who loves strong flavours, salt and fat. It just doesn't work. Bacon on its own is glorious, the cocktail sausages in honey-mustard or whatever sauce are edible, but these two together are just pointless waste of stomach space.

But then I’m a bit meh about bacon generally and will often ask for a burger without the bacon (I’m going to have to name change now so I’m not hounded forevermore at daring to say bacon is meh).

Although if we’re having extra of something instead of pigs in blankets, then it’s stuffing or roasts. Not turkey! But then again, turkey is also in the meh category for me.

Pigs, like dogs, love getting all wrapped up and snuggly in blankets. They also love a back scratch. That is the only acceptable ‘pig in a blanket’.

I agree OP, I don't like them at all. I think it's the fatty, streaky bacon which I find disgusting. I just have ordinary chipolatas with LOTS of gorgeous homemade bread sauce!!
