I just don't get all of the fuss and hype over a greasy little sausage wrapped in a scrappy bit of bacon! I would much rather have an extra turkey on my plate instead. None of my family like them either, are we unusual or are there others out there who agree?

A few years ago, at my work's Christmas meal out, I had pigs in blankets as a starter.

Oh my, it was bliss.

But if you are not going to eat them, don't take them. It makes me very angry to see them left. Xmas Angry Xmas Grin

NuniaBeeswax · 15/12/2020 19:09

I agree tbh OP. I can eat a couple but find them a bit sickening.

OhWhyNot · 15/12/2020 19:12

I don’t like them ds loves them

I don’t like double meat things it’s meat overload

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 15/12/2020 19:13

You could not be more wrong. They are the best bit. We have them on their own with mash for tea.

I made honey mustard pigs in blanket arranged around a cooked camembert the other week, the pigs in blankets were for dipping in the cheese. I'm still thinking about it. I could not recommend it more as a heart attack waiting to happen meal.

MingeofDeath · 15/12/2020 19:13

YANDU. Blooming horrible things. Sausage and bacon is not good when served like that. We aren't having Christmas dinner this year, so there will be no PIBS served at all.

TheGreatWave · 15/12/2020 19:20

OP I bet you put chocolate in the fridge as well. Xmas Shock

Petitmum · 15/12/2020 19:21

I'm glad to see others share my unpopular opinion!!! I am not aloneSmile

I don't mind them but it would not cost me a thought if I never had them again. We rarely have turkey in our house but I do enjoy the crispy rashers that cover the breasts when cooking it.(they tend to be the cooks treat). I far prefer pheasant or Goose to Turkey though.

Oblomov20 · 15/12/2020 19:22

My boys love them. I'm gutted that I can only get them in the Christmas season.
Last year I bought some, popped them and some stuffing balls in the freezer, and bought them out in February, with a roast leg of lamb. Ds's were thrilled.

I do!!!

I also detest bread sauce (runs for cover)

TheGreatWave · 15/12/2020 19:26

I'm with you on the bread sauce. Xmas Grin

DrunkenKoala · 15/12/2020 19:29

Nah YABU.

But your comment about bread sauce I agree with.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/12/2020 19:29

Bread sauce is evil but pigs in blankets are a firm favourite here.

orangenasturtium · 15/12/2020 19:32

@vodkaredbullgirl

I wait all year for pigs in blankets lol
Waitrose sell the most delicious honey roast pork chipolatas wrapped in bacon all year round, if you can't be bothered to make your own unseasonal pigs in blankets.
vodkaredbullgirl · 15/12/2020 19:34

Ive got my sausages and streaky bacon of our xmas dinner.

Lilmzsnowflake · 15/12/2020 19:34

Ds makes me do pigs in blankets all year round, I am happy to oblige! Always get good sausages and bacon though.
He declared his school Xmas lunch to be ruined due to the lack of pig and has already said not to bother booking him one for next year as it was so sad!

Bread sauce is just plain awful though, that I will agree on.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/12/2020 19:35

Once a year?! 😂 I quite often do toad in the hole with sausages wrapped in bacon and we tradionally have pigs in blankets hotdogs for bonfire night

phoenixrosehere · 15/12/2020 19:36

YANBU. Prefer the American ones. Puff pastry wrapped around a mini frankfurter. The sausage wrapped in bacon, pass.

FourPlatinumRings · 15/12/2020 19:36

YANBU

hansgrueber · 15/12/2020 19:38

@Inastatus

YABVVU - my kids would riot if I didn’t do pugs in blankets at Christmas!
Doing the pigs in blanket was my children and grandchildren's first contribution to making the Christmas meal, they loved to make them, kept them quiet for an hour or so.

Isn't that better known as a sausage roll, made with an inferior sausage?
BashfulClam · 15/12/2020 19:39

Wash your mouth out with soap!!!!

CakeRequired · 15/12/2020 19:40

Nope you are so wrong op, as are the rest of you who dont like them. The door is that way, please close it behind you. Grin

StCharlotte · 15/12/2020 19:41

Have all the pigs in blankets I've ever been served been cooked wrong then? I've never made them, but I've had them in very good restaurants, so I would be surprised if so.

Possibly. My friend's son is a chef in a locally renowned gastro pub. My friend managed to arrange for us to have extra pigs in blankets (at my request) and when a mountain of them was presented, they were nasty little frankfurters. Totally inedible. My dog was very happy though.

It is closer to a sausage roll, but the pastry is more croissant than puff tbh. The texture would be off if sausage was used,
