To ask something you’d love that you can’t ever have

Is there anything in this world you would love to do or have that just isn’t an achievable goal? You know when people say you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it? Well, the thing you can’t have either way.

Mine would be to adopt a child. I have all the love in my heart to give to adoptive children, I know I could love them just as my own and deal with the challenges unconditionally. Unfortunately I have a mental health diagnosis, two previous (malicious) reports to Social Services and a DP who doesn’t feel the same on the subject. I do have biological children but I will always dream of adopting.

Is there anything for you?

A smallholding in the countryside instead of a shabby 1930s semi in the city.

Zac Efron

I would love to not suffer from anxiety and view life in a more positive light. I would love to own my own home one day as it would give us more security but I can't ever see it happening.

EmilyinWolverhampton · 15/12/2020 18:25

To be a mother.

Parents (or grandparents, or siblings. Any family really).

On the other hand I am very slim and have a house and a flat stomach, so there's that I suppose?

He's mine! Grin
TheGremlinsAreComing · 15/12/2020 19:16

@Ginfordinner we'll have to disagree on that one because he is most definitely mine Grin

Ginfordinner · 15/12/2020 19:18

I'll have Hugh Jackman then Grin

Jojojo32 · 15/12/2020 19:20

Mine is going to sound completely shallow but I would love good looks, I was not blessed with looks of any kind all the plastic surgery in the world I still would be only 4/10 😂, I would love to feel how someone genuinely beautiful feels.

To have a baby with my partner, to see which one of us they looked like, to be their parent from the very first day, for them to be loved and cared for from day one.

I can very much understand why not being able to do this must hurt (whatever the reasons - I don't know yours of course, but I know there are lots of reasons). But I just wanted to say, babies and children grow to look like the people who bring them up, purely because they take on the habits and expressions of those people. So, even if you have a child that doesn't look like you, or doesn't look like both of you, eventually you will notice they are doing 'your' distinctive frown, or you'll see how they have your partner's physical movement down to a t.

To be completely cured of my long-term health condition, resulting in me being able to work to contribute financially, to share the physical load of family life with DH, rather than having to rely on him (as well as him doing a FT job) and our DDs no longer having anxiety that "Mummy is going to die", after seeing me unconscious in ITU to say goodbye, when I wasn't expected to make it. Not feeling really horrific, every single day would be such a treat, but I'm stuck with this for life.

Still, soon be Christmas! Xmas Smile

Sarahandduck18 · 15/12/2020 22:29

I wish I had all my teeth back.

AndcalloffChristmas · 15/12/2020 22:40

To know what it’s like to have children with a decent, loving partner.

chillimartini · 15/12/2020 22:45

Equality for all. We live in a shit world.

Ibizafun · 15/12/2020 22:51

To have one day with my grandma who passed away desperately unhappy that my husband had cheated and I was getting divorced, to tell her that her prayers worked and I now have the most incredible husband.

whatkatydid2013 · 15/12/2020 22:55

I’d like my husband to not be depressed. It might happen but whether it does or not is totally outside my control. I’m pretty happy with life otherwise and while I occasionally wonder what if I’m more inclined to wonder what next

AnnaFiveTowns · 15/12/2020 22:57

I would love my dog back

Same 😔

unipixie · 15/12/2020 23:22

To have not had an abusive childhood, and hence to have developed healthy boundaries and had good relationships with non abusive men. If I had, then I wouldn't have married ex, and my children would have had a decent father. If only I had sorted myself out years ago

Hm2020 · 16/12/2020 00:23

To be with the person I want to be with..

tigerbear · 16/12/2020 01:11

@GuiEtVin but there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t have that.
At 37, I had the best body I’ve ever had (by loads of exercise - 30 Day Shred and going running, plus good diet).
6 years on, I’m not as thin and toned at all, having put on about a stone and a half during that time, but going to try to get back this level of fitness.

tigerbear · 16/12/2020 01:13

I would like for daughter to live with me all of the time ;currently 60/40.

My list would be the same, except change the language to Italian, and add the words "by first class/private jet" after travel. Smile

That said, if we had a beautiful large house complete with smallholding and various pets, I doubt I'd ever want to travel, I'd be living the dream anyway.

lakesidexmas · 16/12/2020 02:18

@SimonJT it is true that dc will mould themselves to be part of you, regardless of their genetic background and if they came to you later.
A friend is often told that her dc look just like her.
They do.
They have no genetic links with her at all.
