To ask something you’d love that you can’t ever have

Is there anything in this world you would love to do or have that just isn’t an achievable goal? You know when people say you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it? Well, the thing you can’t have either way.

Mine would be to adopt a child. I have all the love in my heart to give to adoptive children, I know I could love them just as my own and deal with the challenges unconditionally. Unfortunately I have a mental health diagnosis, two previous (malicious) reports to Social Services and a DP who doesn’t feel the same on the subject. I do have biological children but I will always dream of adopting.

Is there anything for you?

@claricethecat45 am I being thick not understanding your reference to "looking down" in the bath?

SingingSands · 15/12/2020 13:53

World peace.

It's my running "joke" when the DC ask me what I'd like for my birthday or Christmas. I would like it though!

Whatayear2020 · 15/12/2020 13:56

To not have ADHD and to experience a quiet mind free from racing thoughts. It's exhausting.

Mybedislisting · 15/12/2020 13:57

To resolve my eating disorder and to not have issues with food

For my partner to be well
To not have Asperger’s
To have attended Smith instead of Mount Holyoke

awwkkwwaard · 15/12/2020 14:10

To have the body I had when I was 18. Not slim by any means but not completely ravaged by having kids. I would almost be happy with saggy boobs if I didn't have the saggy stomach to go with it. And no, losing weight doesn't really help Sad

Ameanstreakamilewide · 15/12/2020 14:14

@dontlikebeards

To be able to sing.
If you're brave I'd recommend a couple of singing lessons, cos they'll give you a boost.

It's all about the breathing and hearing the music properly.
Next time you're singing, pop a little piece of cotton wool into your ear and you'll hear yourself sing differently and hear where you're potentially going awry.

Give it a go. 👍

Reading this has made me realise how very lucky I am.
Flowers to so many of you. I hope that even if the wishes don’t come true you find your peace.

A flat stomach

The unconditional love of supportive, non abusive parents

Good eyesight so I can wake up in the morning and see without scrabbling around for my glasses and having to wear contact lenses which dry my eyes out

For DS2 not to have ASD, LDs and severe anxiety so he can live a normal life

A guaranteed long and healthy and cancer-fucking-free life for my brother, who is young and facing a grim prognosis (stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer).
The house next door (as in a Helena Bonham Carter-Tim Burton scenario so I can escape DH every single day once in a blue moon. He's a collector. I'll say no more).
My Great Novel... on book shelves and in cinemas now.

To go skiing again in a resort with no mobile phones!

MedusasBadHairDay · 15/12/2020 14:38

To have my kids meet my mum. Breaks my heart she never got to meet them, she lived kids, she'd have been an amazing nan.

amymel2016 · 15/12/2020 14:49

When I saw this OP I thought I’d say something like be thin or have thicker hair but having time on my hands (mat leave!) I've really thought about it.

I really wish my parents had me when they were younger, they were 45 and 54 when I was born. I’m 33 now and my DM is starting with dementia and my DD died when I was in my teens. I had a great childhood which I’m so so great full for but I wish I had an extra couple of years.

amymel2016 · 15/12/2020 14:49

Grateful sorry for the spelling!!

To turn back the clock a year and give H's head a huge wobble. Obviously can't happen.

leiaskye · 15/12/2020 14:58

To have got cats instead of dogs.

AleynEivlys · 15/12/2020 15:05

To live free of anxiety, but it's highly unlikely to happen. I'm better than I was, though.

Eternal youth and the ability to time travel.

Can’t stand being old. It is just so painful

Onlymeandthedognow · 15/12/2020 15:29

@Labobo
Yes, all the physical sports at a young age are the reason for the ‘state’ of me now! When you are young and still growing, your body can go into all sorts of strange positions as your bones are still soft, injuries heal quicker etc....but it comes back to bite you in your later years, sadly.
My feet (hooves🙁) are an awful mess from the ballet.
I loved what I did at the time, but with hindsight, I’m not entirely sure I’d give as much to the sports as I did back then
