To ask what is your 'side hustle' and how much do you earn?

I need to preface this with apologising for using the term 'side hustle'. I know it is hated by many Grin

I work part time but over the years I have supplemented my income with various side hustles. Cleaning, buying and selling, cake decorating, etc. Now I tutor and earn about 350 a month extra.

What is your side hustle if you have one and how much do you earn each month from it?

Smallgoon he is wrong, anyone can translate. There is more to it than just speaking another language though. I freelance for museums mostly. Happy to share more by PM

@notafanoftheman

If you could, that would be great, thank you. Am surprised he's not aware of this himself given his wife does some translation work. He's the loveliest guy and I'd love to help him. So horrible hearing him tell me of the hardships driving instructors are facing. They were only allowed to teach key workers during the pandemic, which is kinda ridiculous given key workers wouldn't have even had the time to learn during lockdown.

notafanoftheman · 16/12/2020 15:59

send me some specific questions and I'll be happy to answer them!

Janeinthemiddle · 16/12/2020 17:14

I join competitions, get free samples and become a product tester Grin

Matched betting - made £25k in the last 2 and a bit years--most of my accounts are restricted to pennies now though and with a baby I can't frequent in-store bookmakers like I used to so I've now moved to trading sports events on the exchange. It has required a big change in mindset and. Slot of time studying as you have to create your edge rather than have the edge readily available (in the form of a free bet or free spins).
I'm not yet consistently profitable but I'm getting close and the potential is huge, particularly on sports like tennis where's £500k+ liquidity available.

Some fab ideas on this thread, very inspiring!

Yesivenamechanged11 · 16/12/2020 22:16
  • a lot rather than slot 🙈
Teenageromance · 17/12/2020 18:12

@notafanoftheman could you let me know how to get into translation work. I have a friend who speaks 3 languages and has lost her job (non language related)

notafanoftheman · 17/12/2020 19:08

It’s hard to give generic advice tbh. Tell her to look on YouTube for videos on how to get started in translation. I should say I’ve been doing it for 20+ years, you don’t make that kind of money overnight. Happy to answer any specific questions privately.

@Ddot and anyone else writing a book - do NOT 'vanity publish'
Vanity publishing is where you pay ££ upfront and someone makes the book for you and the cost includes a certain number of copies.
Instead, look at self-publishing with Amazon KDP where you can have both paperback and kindle versions of your book free of charge and available internationally.
You can pay someone on Fiverr or Upwork to format your book for KDP and to make a cover at minimal cost

Thanks it was for cancer therapy but turned out ok xxxx happy new year

Ddot · 31/12/2020 19:07

Not many people survive my cancer, it's the worst in my area but I'm a bloody lucky girl and very drunk. (Had a bottle of beer) I love everyone today

Ddot · 31/12/2020 19:07

Off tbed

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/12/2020 19:14

Not me but dd has a side hustle running a Minecraft server. She makes/made quite a bit from it.....not sure how much she still does it. But people would use real money to pay for stuff they could use in the game.....think that’s how it worked. And putting gaming videos on YouTube.

Smeeglz · 31/12/2020 19:25

I make 60-70K a year selling through Amazon FBA. It's my full time job now, and hubby joining from the new year too. The fees are very high, but so is demand (more than ever) so it works out okay. I started around 7 years ago now. There literally are no upper earnings limits, the drawback is that you do have to invest at the beginning in stock/inventory. Amazon rules are very strict so I'd advise anyone interested to learn the ropes carefully, and approach it quite formally.

It is quite easy to build up additional revenue streams, think about what people come to you for advice about - and then monetise it into an eBook, a short online course or coaching programme.

julieandertoninthewarehouse · 31/12/2020 21:12

I sell a lot on ebay, participate in paid research and occasionally proof read. I make £200 - 600 pm doing this
Always been intrigued by matched betting. Surprised how many here do it and attempted to do some research tomorrow.

lovelemoncurd · 31/12/2020 21:14

Match betting - between £300 and £1000 a month profit.

3ismylot · 31/12/2020 21:25

me and DH do a variety of side hustles including mystery shopping and comping but the most lucrative is food/parcel delivery apps which bring in an extra £2k-£4 per month

Purple2486 · 31/12/2020 21:31

My OH did match betting for a bit but all the offers dried up so gave it up.
I sell loads of our old/ unwanted stuff on marketplace, told my friend who doesn't have a lot of time to sell stuff so she brings a car load of stuff round to me, I sell it & keep 50% of the profit.

fandangofandango · 31/12/2020 22:16

@3ismylot wow!! Is that apps like beelivery?

3ismylot · 31/12/2020 22:21

Amazon flex, Uber, Stuart, Beelivery, Just eat and deliveroo, DH loves it and that is earnings on top of his fulltime job. I do the odd bit but not really my thing. It has taken him 18 months to work out the best way of working most efficiently and he stays flexible on his working areas but it really pays off at the moment

Loissanger · 31/12/2020 22:25

I mark professional exams up to four times a year. Generally brings in about £2,000 each time.

I used to do mystery shopping but that’s gradually dwindled over the years.

SpaceRaiders · 02/01/2021 18:35

@Smeeglz I’m really curious. Do you think the market is now saturated? I notice quite a few FBA groups on Facebook popping up and various people offering courses worth £££. I’ve done a lot of research already and just not sure weather to first invest in some training before starting out. Or to just dive straight in.

1manwenttomow · 02/01/2021 23:17

@3ismylot do you mean he delivers the food/parcels in his spare time after full time work etc or something else?

3ismylot · 03/01/2021 09:08

@1manwenttomow Yes he is a delivery driver for the different apps in his spare time, so mainly does evenings and weekends for them.

Wauden · 10/01/2021 13:28
