To ask what is your 'side hustle' and how much do you earn?

I need to preface this with apologising for using the term 'side hustle'. I know it is hated by many Grin

I work part time but over the years I have supplemented my income with various side hustles. Cleaning, buying and selling, cake decorating, etc. Now I tutor and earn about 350 a month extra.

What is your side hustle if you have one and how much do you earn each month from it?

@EatsCheeseAndLeaves that is so helpful and thanks so much for your advice. I really appreciate it - finding my job and two small ones hard to juggle so this could be a way to build something.

I've also go a graphic designer pal who would be more than willing to help with sizing I'm sure!

You've just inspired me. Thanks again. Will let you know how I get on x

@cookiecuttercreamandbutter

I have to say it’s quite rude and lazy to ask others to give you basic information that you could google yourself

I think you've missed the point of chat sites in general, TBF.

Clearly you get your kicks from being Offendable.

No, there’s a difference between a chat about what you do, and asking someone to hand you information they’ve had to work really hard for and expecting that they’ll just give it up. It’s also pretty lazy and self involved to expect others to spend their time explaining things to you that you could figure out for yourself by doing a simple search.

I’m not offended in the least, but you do seem quite bothered by the post - perhaps it has struck a nerve.

EatsCheeseAndLeaves · 14/12/2020 21:07

@Tomorrowsanotherday1 Yay! Do it! I did it from nothing and it’s working out ok. And please do let me know :))

terfterfterf · 14/12/2020 21:08

@Saz432 Posters are quite at liberty to not give out information! I see Chat as being no different from sitting around with some friends and talking about a variety of things. My RL friends have asked me about my side hustle and I didn't tell them to Google it!
The work I do is not niche or specialist and I won't suffer if other people do it. So Ive been more than happy to converse with over 20 posters now in DMs about it. I wouldn't do that if I thought it rude or lazy to ask Grin let's spread some positivity and helpfulness...

spottedbadger · 14/12/2020 21:24

Stock photography. Few hundred pounds a year but I only have a very small portfolio, mostly pictures from travels.

MilesToGoBeforeISleep · 14/12/2020 21:39

I've been designing games and writing coding lesson plans for an online kids' coding company in my spare time.

Ddot · 14/12/2020 22:13

Your all so talented. I'm reading with interest. Gambling not my thing. I did meet a lady in a discount store who bought designer stuff to sell on ebay. If it didn't sell she took it back for refund. You have thirty days. Win win

Ddot · 14/12/2020 22:26

I've written a book, well it's almost finished. Not touched for over a year. It's a very raw subject. I would like to get it published mainly because it could help someone or even save someone. I need to inject a bit more humor as a book full of grim is not very readable. You've given me the kick up the bum I needed, reading all your unimaginative ideas. I will finish it after Christmas. It may not sell but I will have a bloody go. He who dares wins, this time next year Rodders we be millionaires

No.

Your gas lighting is not as subtle as it would need to be for real efficacy.

Smallgoon · 14/12/2020 23:07

@Bridecilla

Why not *@small*? She's got £140 that she didn't have before and the potential for return buyers. Is there a minimum hussle allowed on this thread that we weren't informed of?
Agreed. Not sure why the need to be pedantic.
jennytheonionslayer · 14/12/2020 23:34

I buy, repair and sell iPads and iPhones.

I mainly reinvest any money I make in upgrading our own devices, I could make money if I wasn't always doing favours for friends and relatives at cost!😆

weehoo · 14/12/2020 23:50

I work almost F/T and also sell on Etsy as a sideline which brings in an extra £2.5k a month

It didn't happen overnight and I've worked extremely hard but now it's paying off

Mulderitssme · 15/12/2020 03:40

As well as the Etsy business I've set up, I also do paid research when I can. We also have two rental properties. One commercial and one residential. The residential one has been tenanted for the past few years but the shop is currently empty and we're renovating it to increase value. I'm not sure if I can call it a "side hustle" as I'm currently out of work due to my contract ending and I have a disability and a difficult pregnancy that make it difficult for me to be in typical employment.

whereisthejoy · 15/12/2020 07:28

Teach yoga, this has been my side hustle for over 8 years now (moved to online due to covid which suits me perfectly as I've moved to the middle of nowhere). Was making about £500 a month in person for 2.5 hours a week plus travel time and being at studio before and after class; making just over half that for 2 hours from home now (much less time consuming of course).

pisspants · 15/12/2020 08:24

Over the last year I've made an extra £2k through matched betting and low risk casino (£3.5k) using Team Profit and Team Casino. I also made £2k through doing a combination of Appen, Cambly (online English teaching) and Prolific.
There's a great ongoing thread in the money section called earning £10 a day (varient thereof) and has loads of people doing various bits and bobs to bring extra £ in and discussing places hiring etc. It's where I found out about Appen, Prolific and Cambly and gave me the confidence to do the profitable gambling! I am so grateful for the people on that thread!

pisspants · 15/12/2020 08:47

just read it back and it should say an extra £5.5K.
Have declared to HMRC but the great thing about the matched betting/casino is that it is tax free!

ThanksForAllTheFish · 15/12/2020 09:54

My work contract doesn’t allow me to take in any other work without getting approval from the company first - and they have never given anyone permission as far as I know. Someone in our office was actually sacked a couple of years ago for selling Avon on the side as she had breached her employment contract by taking on other work.

drspouse · 15/12/2020 10:22

Mine is the same thanks but I don't think they mind about property income as I don't think it counts as work.
I got paid for an article for a trade rag once and I was asked to be an expert witness (it didn't materialise though) which would have been paid; I have to ask for permission for those.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/12/2020 12:40

I've just started researching / writing a book. A 'How-To' style guide for my professional sector. Have spotted a definite gap in the market so I'm feeling optimistic that someone might take an interest. Long way to go before it brings in any cash though....

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 15/12/2020 13:04

Landlady, just about covers the mortgage for our new house.

KMCB · 15/12/2020 13:19

I've started selling my empty crisp packet collection from the 70s and 80s on Ebay and have made £1700 since November, from 70 packets. I nearly put them all for recycling last year. My new motto is 'Check before you chuck'!

tectonicplates · 15/12/2020 14:10

@KMCB That is one of the most fascinating answers so far! I've just done an Ebay search for 80s crisp packet and I've actually found a full packet of Walkers, sealed with crisps still inside, being sold for £110! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980-s-Walkers-Crisp-Packet-FULL-WITH-CRISPS-SEALED-VGC-Look-Unique-Smoky-Bacon/333706537844?hash=item4db275ab74:g:bgcAAOSw~6BerpSf

I mean, I have no idea why people buy this stuff, but if it sells then it sells Grin

Maybe I need to think harder with what I chuck out. I only sell clothes in reasonably good condition, and it would never occur to me to sell what I perceive as rubbish. Now I'm wondering what other random old stuff I have lying around.

tectonicplates · 15/12/2020 14:16

Okay I've just looked through the sold items and the prices that people pay for old, empty crisp packets are ridiculous! I'm beginning to think I should never have thrown anything away now.

Moosetime · 15/12/2020 16:12

I work the odd overtime shift at work on top of my full-time job (healthcare). I have just borrowed a library book to learn more about Forex (currency trading). I plan to set up a pretend dummy account and practice making trades until I get good enough to invest my own money. I’ve always been the type to make my money stretch as far as possible, but Martin has inspired me to start trying to pay my mortgage down ! Well, a girl can dream Xmas Grin...

I occasionally sell on eBay but don't make much. I have in the past sold a carrier bag that I'd brought home clothes in and was surprised that someone bought it 😳 no idea why!?!
