To ask what is your 'side hustle' and how much do you earn?

I need to preface this with apologising for using the term 'side hustle'. I know it is hated by many Grin

I work part time but over the years I have supplemented my income with various side hustles. Cleaning, buying and selling, cake decorating, etc. Now I tutor and earn about 350 a month extra.

What is your side hustle if you have one and how much do you earn each month from it?

@Pinkrollercoaster

Mystery shopping. I started around 15 years ago alongside my full time job as I was struggling to pay the mortgage on my own. It's now my full time job 🙂
@Pinkrollercoaster what sites do you use that allows it to be a full time job. I do some but it mostly only covers my purchase so no profit.

Whats match betting? @cavemum

CaveMum · 14/12/2020 18:47

@Jeeperscreepers69 Matched betting is a way of using bookmaker offers to guarantee yourself a profit. It’s not gambling! Explanation video here: www.teamprofit.com/

I donate Plasma 1 or 2 times a week depending on how busy I am and I get an average of $40 on each donation immediately after the donation is complete. Saving lives and getting paid is a great combination.

I play games through Mistplay and earn either $10 per month or $25 in 2 months in the form of a gift card I choose, which is always a Visa so I can choose where to spend it.

I have SmartApp installed on my phone which runs in the background and I get $10 per month for absolutely nothing. The more devices you link to it the more you get paid. I get the payment sent directly to my PayPal.

I use Fetch Rewards for my receipts to accumulate points for rewards. Haven't cashed in on it yet because I just started it but it will be a gift card when I do.

French translation - make about £1000 per month on top of my pension

Jessicafirsttimer · 14/12/2020 18:57

Bit of an aside but I once lived with a girl who was a teacher by day and a stripper/pole dancer at stringfellows by night....a literal side hustle.

ColourandRhyme · 14/12/2020 19:01

I've written a children's poetry book with a small, independent publisher's. I don't know how well it will sell, but I'm chuffed!

Jugglingmummy28 · 14/12/2020 19:01

How does this work?

Winebottle · 14/12/2020 19:04

I gamble. I wouldn't call it match betting because I don't really lay bets off but look to get money on where there is an advantage.

It takes up a lot of time and emotional energy (the losses hurt) but I'm reasonable profitable. It's difficult to say how much because of the fluctuations.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 14/12/2020 19:45

“Portfolio career”

sounds better I think 🙌😁

CrochetToTheMoon · 14/12/2020 19:47

I’m also part time, I crochet as a hobby and have very recently started selling bits here and there, I’ve probably made about £150 over the last month which went right onto my credit card debt. Not sure how much I’ll make each month right enough.

TheChosenTwo · 14/12/2020 19:48

Wow! I’m far too lazy (and boring) to be side hustling but some of these jobs are very creative.

searchingforsunshine395 · 14/12/2020 20:00

I am in a similar position. How do you come across this type of work, if you don’t mind me asking? Smile

MillieVanilla · 14/12/2020 20:10

I'm a mobile DJ as a business but I also work with brands as I used to be in PR so I'm seen as a safe pair of hands for feedback.
I also write letters for people, for payment. Think court letters for people who can't get legal aid and can't afford a solicitor, they're referred to me by Citizens Advice. I also help with benefit appeals and housing complaints. Font charge very much at all (think a fiver for a big court letter) but I enjoy it when someone has been wronged and I can rip apart the bullshit of someone who is paid huge amounts but still fucks up.
This year has been a bit crap for all of it though so I've been painting and decorating

VistaOfFreedom · 14/12/2020 20:10

@ButtWormHole

I...have quite a niche on OF. People would quite obviously know it’s me but the money is life changing
What's OF?
BigBaublesGalore · 14/12/2020 20:12

@VistaOfFreedom only fans

Saz432 · 14/12/2020 20:24

I have to say it’s quite rude and lazy to ask others to give you basic information that you could google yourself, or to ask for information that someone else probably spent months or years acquiring. I used to run a business and would regularly have people asking me who my suppliers were, how to start their own similar business etc and it really annoyed me. Often my suppliers were found after months of research, trialling products, spending a lot on money trying things out before settling on something, with lots of failures along the way - and this was 15 years ago or more so a lot of suppliers didn’t have the online presence they do now.

If you’re not prepared to put the work into research, or you are asking a basic question on a thread like this like “what is X?” when you could open another tab and type it into Google, you definitely don’t have the initiative to run any kind of business.

sjonlegs · 14/12/2020 20:26

I rifle through my husband's pockets, pimp out my kids and sell my soul regularly (I'd sell my body but there are sadly no takers!)!

What's this about side hustling??

Watches posts intently...

Daffodil83 · 14/12/2020 20:27

Sorry I am an absolute novice - could you give me a layman’s step by step guide to matched betting?

Tomorrowsanotherday1 · 14/12/2020 20:33

@EatsCheeseAndLeaves my husband has a photography side line which he's not done anything with for years. I've been thinking about using his images on cards etc as they are so good.
Could you advise on how you manage it please I'm really interested?

For example - Do you print in bulk? What application do you use to design the cards etc? Photoshop? Who do you sell to and do you have an e-commerce site? Sorry for all the q's Grin

CaveMum · 14/12/2020 20:41

@Daffodil83 it’s all explained in this video www.teamprofit.com/

@Tomorrowsanotherday1 No problem at all!

I get them printed by a printer locally and while I sometimes have a few of my best sellers to hand, I tend to operate a system of lean production/to order so I don’t have to keep much stock (thus costs both space and money).

The cards are a bit different and I do keep some stock of those because they are cheaper to buy in bulk and the turnaround time/printing time is longer in my case.

A friend who is a graphics person sizes them for me then formats them for A4, A3 etc and has also done the same for the cards so all I then have to do is send them off to the printer/printed.com

At the moment I sell through Etsy but I’m just about to set up a shop on my website so I can sell directly (as I know that most of my sales come through social media rather than Etsy itself).

Definitely do something with them! I hope this helps. I look forward to hearing more. Message me if you like.

Chailatte20 · 14/12/2020 20:53

In addition to my day job I'm also a bank NHS receptionist, used to do a few shifts every quarter but now demand has grown. Depending on how many shifts a week, I can clear an extra £300-£500 a month. I'm using this money to plug gaps in my pension & NI insurance contributions as I've got a 10 Yr gap in my working history.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 14/12/2020 20:57

@xyzandabc

Matched betting then low/medium risk casino. With just matched betting I was making around £2/300 a month. With casino around £600 a month on average over a year. But getting less and less as I've lost pretty much every major bookie now. When I lose the same number of casinos then it's probably time to call it a day.
Same here. I did it for 2 years, made nearly 30k but now gubbed on most (on three lots of accounts as I signed up my sisters!). Stopped making enough money to be worth the effort, plus the offers are nowhere near as good as they were a year ago.
