To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:24

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

We're only tier 2 but still no panto or FC here. It does rub the salt into the wound a little.

kittenpeak · 11/12/2020 23:28

London will be in tier 3 on Wednesday. Plenty of local pubs , theatres and leisure centres will close down here too. Thousands of jobs being lost. I don't think any part of the country is coming off well. Ok annoying tier 1-2 areas got a bit more freedom for longer but they can't ignore high infection rates for the sake of Xmas socialising

DimidDavilby · 11/12/2020 23:28

How the fuck do they get panto? And I'm showing my son other people's bloody trees thru the window for cheer!

Is their life not easy enough already.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 11/12/2020 23:28

I don't blame you for being annoyed. Tier 3 here and basically haven't been out of lockdown since March apart from 3 weeks when we were allowed to socialise (in gardens only) briefly. They don't care unless it affects London. Our theatres may never reopen the way things are going. I'm sad, annoyed but resigned to the knowledge that nowhere North of Watford matters to our government.

Andante57 · 11/12/2020 23:29

Maybe think of the fact it gave the performers a rare chance to be on stage after months of no work.
No doubt the royal family will get criticism like yours from others so you can enjoy that.

lurker101 · 11/12/2020 23:29

If it makes you feel less bitter they were at a special performance to thank key workers and their families for their sacrifices during the pandemic, and showing the general public that social distanced performances are considered safe enough for two heirs to the throne to attend, whilst supporting one of the worst hit industries.

I do however agree that it’s sad theatres can’t be open in tier 3 areas too

Spottybluepyjamas · 11/12/2020 23:29

It was to thank the key workers, and that's what W&K have been doing for most of the year. I think it's right that they attend really

PineconeOfDoom · 11/12/2020 23:29

It was an official engagement at a performance for key workers Hmm

I thinks it’s a bit pathetic to get jealous about that.

victoriaspongecake · 11/12/2020 23:30

Fgs let 3 little kids enjoy a panto.
Just because yours can’t have something doesn’t mean the rest of the world can’t.
Meanie!😂😉

19lottie82 · 11/12/2020 23:33

I doubt Kate and Wills woke up one morning and just decided to “take the kids to the panto”, because they could (while the majority of the population can’t).

As has already been pointed out it was a royal engagement to thank key workers.

YABU.

19lottie82 · 11/12/2020 23:34

of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids
a pantomime.

Well, yes. You do!

PicsInRed · 11/12/2020 23:35

Their courtiers are bizarrely out of touch with what's going on the ground and how the Royals are being perceived.

Arranging for them to attend a live Panto (yes, with a few keyworkers at a distance) whilst every other child in the country cant so much as do a school Christmas play, let alone Panto - what are they thinking?

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 11/12/2020 23:36

YANBU, it's insensitive

katy1213 · 11/12/2020 23:37

Are you raging about being in Tier 3 or raging at royals going to a show? (I agree that I wouldn't want to be in Tier 3!)
There's quite a few shows on in London and I should think in other cities too. Anyone can go. Lots of empty seats that theatres would love to fill. I don't have much interest in William and Kate, but at least they're encouraging struggling venues.

minipie · 11/12/2020 23:38

I thought exactly the same OP (except I’m in London, but still no pantos or much else here).

Panto to thank key workers and give theatre workers some employment, well and good. But WTF are the royals doing there? They’re not key workers last time I looked.

BosomHoik · 11/12/2020 23:40

@19lottie82

of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

Well, yes. You do!

Oh no she doesn’t!! 😂😂
Cam2020 · 11/12/2020 23:40

Panto is absolute shite, so YABU. Being in Tier 3 is also shite though and I'm sure you've had enough by now Flowers

PicsInRed · 11/12/2020 23:42

They could have attended without the kids - if it was really just a royal work engagement.

The royal kids so publicly having what no other British kids can have this year? That was where it rubbed the salt into a year of wounds.

TaraRhu · 11/12/2020 23:42

They also went on tour around the country. We'd be charged if we went home from London to Scotland but it's ok for William and Kate. How bad can lockdown be fit them with an entire palace to spread out in, a host of facilities and staff. I'd rather they set an example and stayed at home.

Lemonsyellow · 11/12/2020 23:44

I did a double take too. I don’t think it was appropriate that they attended.

Alternista · 11/12/2020 23:47

I’ve been slack jawed at them all week tbh. Get off the fucking royal train, stop going round the country spreading God knows what and just STAY THE FUCK AT HOME like we’re all having to. Go and thank people in six months when there’s less chance of killing them.

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:48

I don’t begrudge the kids, the kids royal or not are kids. And I am glad the arts get some support it just is that exactly salt in the wounds. My family members both worked at our theatre both now unemployed.

I just have the fucking rage tonight. There is no reason for our local area to be in tier 3, we are lumped with a city a 40 minute drive away. But London is precious and protected. Not that I actually want Londoners to be screwed either I quite like them, I’d like to be back there but if I leave my area I’m breaking the law.

It just feels crass, and controlled and trapping.

Think my PTSD may have kicked in full force tonight.

Tellmetruth4 · 11/12/2020 23:48

FGS give the London bashing a rest won’t you. I swear some of you won’t be happy until London burns down again and even then you’d be angry because they would be talking about ‘That London’ on the news.

If London was tier 3 and your area were tier 2 you’d be complaining that the government cares more about the lives of Londoners so has shut everything to save them whilst letting Covid run rampant in your town. It’s never ending and it’s boring.

Don’t worry London is going into tier 3 soon and you can relax and go back to being the ‘country’s friendliest people TM’.

jessstan1 · 11/12/2020 23:50

i doubt your children will be bothered about missing a panto this year and many are live streaming them. I haven't read about the D&D of Cambridge attending one but I think supporting people in the performing arts at this time when so many have had no work at all for ages, is commendable. I very much doubt panto is their thing.

Tellmetruth4 · 11/12/2020 23:52

How it’s ‘that London’s’ fault that William and Kate went to the panto we’ll never know. If London was in tier 3 they could’ve just taken the train to the next tier 2 area. They live in Norfolk. If they went to the panto there would it be ‘that Norfolk’s’ fault?
