To want to put Hermes out of business

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 11/12/2020 19:55

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

I'm having a real headache with Hermes at the moment. We don't live in a remote location but still 20 miles from the local depot.

Hermes received my Blacks order on Friday 4 December and the tracking alternates between we are processing your order to sorry it's delayed we'll get it moving within 24 hours.

I've contacted their customer service and no one has been in touch to explain why the parcel has not been delivered or when it will be delivered.

I've contacted Blacks customer service three times and they've been just as useless. Idiot woman said my order number didn't exist but managed to find my order using my personal details and then the tracking number.

I guess I have to ride it out and wait for a delivery or perhaps the parcel will be returned and I'll get a refund. Either way not impressed with either company and won't be ordering from Blacks again because (they're crap and) they use Hermes.

I am definitely team anti-Hermes 😡

FlyingByTheSeatof · 12/12/2020 00:14

My Hermes driver is great.

Your DH OP @wasgoingmadinthecountry is a d@@k and I'm guessing the driver wanted to avoid any future complaints from your household and I don't blame him.

Manolinette · 12/12/2020 00:17

I am pretty certain our driver also operates as a part time escort. There is a picture online in the same area she said she lives.

Torvean32 · 12/12/2020 00:32

I cannot stand Hermes. They deliver your parcel to the wrong address. Then when you notify them and they say it will take 48 hours to look into it.

I agree he's an arse but the Hermes reaction was OTT

Our Hermes driver is amazing so helpful. Yodel and Amazon not so much.

madcatladyforever · 12/12/2020 00:42

Arrow xl is a billion times worse they just dumped my new sofa at my front door in the pissing rain so it got soaked and drove off. I had a hell of a job getting it in the house on my own.

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 12/12/2020 00:45

Hermes is much better than Yodel who claimed to have delivered my items while I was home all day. Then proceeded to close my investigation 3 times before I contacted the head office to explain the driver's description of my house and the safe place he described are incorrect and the safe place does not exist. They were happy to tell themselves that my packages were delivered and make me pay for them as they said it was my fault the driver had delivered them. I had specifically noted that the packages were not to be left with a neighbour or a safe place so arghhhh.

Only for them to admit eventually yesterday that the items were delivered to the wrong address by then I had thankfully received a refund from the supplier and reordered the exact same items all which arrived by today except one item which was lost at their depo by their own admission.

The only thing is I had two of everything delivered today. My original order which they said was delivered on Sunday and the stuff I rerorderd on Wednesday. Now I have to spend my Saturday sending back one set of items. I hate Yodel

Pinkfreesias · 12/12/2020 00:45

I've had no problems with Hermes. In fact, they're probably the most reliable of all the couriers who come here. You just got a bad one, I guess.

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 12/12/2020 00:47

My local Hermes guy is absolutely lovely YABU

Fishlaar · 12/12/2020 01:08

My local Hermes chap is lovely. I just wish they would pass the parcel that according to their tracker they received from my supplier at lunchtime on November 30th on to him so he can deliver it! I've contacted Hermes and my supplier and got the run round from both. :(

1forAll74 · 12/12/2020 01:13

I have never had a problem with Hermes, and give them some good reviews over time.. I live off road, and it's sometimes a bit confusing to find my house, but Hermes always deliver on time, they always email or text. to state the time of delivery etc, and are always on time.

Kidsaregrim · 12/12/2020 01:22

@Londonmummy66 they don’t get paid when they don’t deliver! 55p per parcel and if the recipient is not in they don’t get their 55p!

Out of that 55p they need courier insurance, public liability insurance, goods in transit insurance, a vehicle, petrol/diesel, road tax, MOT, and maintenance costs. That’s before an hourly rate and any profit - and no they don’t get paid if they deliver to an address and can’t leave in a safe place or with a neighbour!

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 12/12/2020 03:23

Our local driver is a horrible, lying, lazy madam. We work from home. She always delivers around 11-11:30am. 4 times this week we have waited for her to deliver parcels, only to see her sail by whilst the ‘we were unable to deliver your parcel’ notifications pinged onto the Hermes app. We have dogs that bark if a molecule of oxygen floats past the door, so she definitely didn’t knock. And, unless she has powers of invisibility, didn’t appear on our front door camera.

When she deigned to deliver them today (oddly, at a different time of day to her usual deliveries), she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off.

There are no humans to talk to at Hermes.

There is no accountability.

I don’t understand, if they are paid by the parcel, she couldn’t be bothered to deliver our (5!) parcels!

(For full disclosure, the same woman has been delivering to us for about 3 years. She delivered a parcel to us last week - her car doesn’t change, we know what she drives!)

I’m self employed, I wouldn’t dream of dealing with my clients or the public with the contempt she has shown this week.

Elderflower14 · 12/12/2020 04:04

Our Hermes man is lovely and very reliable... Yodel on the other hand are bloody useless!

Aliferous · 12/12/2020 04:07

I've never really had an issue in my area

Aprilx · 12/12/2020 04:12

I have found Hermes to be fine about 99% of the time.

Why moan about where they stop, they are there for less than a minute.

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 12/12/2020 04:17

My Hermes driver is brilliant so I have not experienced what being said, but I know in real life where I live an awful lot of people have issues with them.
My issue is with Yodel, who stole my PS5 and now the Police are involved as there are many high value goods being stolen from Yodel in my area. I can't go into it for obvious reasons, but you have my sympathy @wasgoingmadinthecountry

Marchitectmummy · 12/12/2020 04:17

Just get click and collect and problem solved. Seems an extreme reaction from the my hermes driver, was your husband rude in asking? Was the driver delivering to you at the time?

Personally I don't think they are amazing, but I don't think any of them are other than royal mail / parcelforce. UPS leave everything outside and don't even knock, luckily our bell alerts us but that annoys me. The others other than parcelforce ans rm are all delivered by the same driver here.

EnPoinsettia · 12/12/2020 04:18

My Hermes couple are fantastic. The lady on the adjacent round who does their holiday cover is lovely too. The previous Hermes guy was great, an absolute star, really sweet semi-retired man, very switched on.

All our delivery people (postal type and supermarket ones too) are amazing. The lady who has started delivering for the chemist is a hoot, really dry sense of humour.

But I do live pretty rurally, in very scenic countryside, and I think it’s a job with very different pressures and benefits than it would be in a city.

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 12/12/2020 04:20

@dannydyerismydad

Our Hermes man is awesome. Yodel though...
Exactly...

Read my post above about Yodel, they are scum
Zoflorabore · 12/12/2020 05:24

Our Hermes driver is great too. I’ve had a few parcels from M&S this week and they’ve all came within the 2 hour time slot.

Only issue I have with mine is that he usually has to empty half of his car to find my packages. I know they must be up the wall but he must waste so much time every day doing it. I’ve got quite severe OCD though and would love to organise it Grin

rottiemum88 · 12/12/2020 05:43

@wasgoingmadinthecountry

We're on a bend on a seriously dangerous country road. Driver could very easily not park across our drive. Admittedly I wouldn't have questioned him but dh was stuck on the road on a dangerous bend unable to drive in. A year later we are still receiving no parcels. We've approached Hermes - I even apologised (against dh's will) but still they refuse to deliver. Always say not in, broken or parcel refused.
You say he could very easily have not parked on the drive, but then surely so could your DH for the short time the driver was there, until he moved?? Confused
ScalpHelp · 12/12/2020 05:54

You just sound vindictive to want to put them out of business over this. Wow.
You haven’t actually experienced the downsides of Hermes as they don’t deliver to you, the driver rightfully refuses to, which is his prerogative. How are you trying to piggyback and lump your issue in with other’s valid complaints, when the problem in question is your own fault?

Frankly the driver probably found your husband intimidating and thought if a resident can’t find an alternative safe parking spot, how could he after being banished from your drive? I don’t think his reaction is OTT. Why couldn’t your husband go for a quick drive then come back as the driver would have left within 30 seconds? It was pedantic to confront him. Your husband was OTT if anything, and is reaping the consequences of his own actions. He fucked up here.
