To want to put Hermes out of business

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

I have to agree

I ordered a kettle bell from sports direct... the silly cow dropped it on the ground before knocking and handed it to me wet and muddy.
I was in absolute disbelief i stood there with my mouth open while she walked away, kicked myself after for not saying anything.
After bringing it in i saw it all scratched.

Contacted hermes and they didn't give a shit.
Also contacted sports direct about why the hell it wasnt packaged properly (or perhaps it was and hermes wrecked the packaging)

Reading this has brought back memories of the terrible Hermes delivery person at my last address! She would set out during the day and just delivered the "sorry you were out" cards as "it's easier than lugging parcels about and quicker than waiting for people to get to the door" - and then tell you to turn up at her house to collect them, but only in a very small window of time. It was a walk from public transport and I walk with a stick so it was basically my parcels being held hostage. This was urban rather than rural.

I haven't had Hermes at this address yet fortunately but it is a different driver!

Mapletreelane · 11/12/2020 21:54

It must depend on your area/courier. Our Hermes courier, and his predecessor are/ were excellent. Our current courier introduced himself on our local facebook page, left his number and is always reliable.

terriblyangryattimes · 11/12/2020 21:55

Genuinely have never had an issue with hermes (and due to my job probably get a more than average amount of parcels delivered)

I've had them call me to find out if I'm in before delivering something large (doorstep right onto street so nowhere to leave parcels if not in) as well as coming back at the end of their shift when I wasn't in the first time to try again. Dreading moving house as will have a different delivery driver to get to know!

PrtScn · 11/12/2020 21:56

Hermes here are fab. DHL are shite. They once delivered a parcel to a completely random house on the other side of the village. I had no idea until the nice couple popped it round to us. We didn’t even have the same house number!

Flowerysocks · 11/12/2020 21:56

I sent a secure, sturdy box of wrapped Christmas presents which was somehow opened and resealed. It arrived quickly, apparently intact, and was handed directly to the recipient. Four presents were slit or torn open, only one was removed leaving the wrapping paper behind at the bottom of the box. Hermes do not respond to complaints. Going back to Royal Mail.

BakedTattie · 11/12/2020 21:56

I like my Hermes driver.

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/12/2020 21:58

My regular Hermes chap is great, really hard working, never had a lost package.
Yes, he parks over my drive, but we're on a country lane. He can hit several houses from mine and I wouldn't begrudge him that. They don't earn much and have a lot of targets to hit.

Madcats · 11/12/2020 22:08

I reckon I am on my third year with my Hermes delivery guy. He must know so much about me and my neighbours!

TBF the couriers know who is at home and will take parcels in round here.

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 11/12/2020 22:09

Hermes are good here.

Royal Mail hit and miss but the sorting office is not far away so it's easy to send DH to collect.

Worst here are DPD who, regularly, email to say I wasn't in when I was in the house and have even left the porch door open to encourage them to actually deliver something

ConfusedcomMum · 11/12/2020 22:12

Our Hermes delivery lady is fantastic. Never had an issue with them. DPD aren't great though.

jambeforeclottedcream · 11/12/2020 22:12

Touch wood this post will probably jinx it.

The worst thing Hermes has done to us is cram the parcel between the front gate and the gate post

But my heart does sink when I realise a parcel is being sent by Hermes. But then yodel or ups aren't much better

DPD are the best

WinterGarden633 · 11/12/2020 22:17

Our Hermes delivery lady is awesome- super nice and if we’re not in she knows where we like to have parcels placed for safekeeping. If anything it’s Royal Mail we have problems with in our area! That said, I’ve got friends in other areas who say they’re dreadful- but I’m given to understand that Hermes are a pretty hard company to work for?

PortraitOfAWoman · 11/12/2020 22:18

Mine is great- always leaves a note and if I'm not here, put the parcel in our agreed 'secret place'.

VicMackey · 11/12/2020 22:19

My Hermes delivery lady is really good and goes over and above....sorry

pickleface · 11/12/2020 22:19

Yanbu! My Hermes parcels invariably get delivered about a mile away to a similar, but different address with a completely different postcode. If I see a listing on eBay that mentions Hermes delivery I steer well clear and I've had to stop buying off ASOS because of this.

overworked88 · 11/12/2020 22:26

I worked for Hermes for quite a while. It's a terribly run company and they absolutely take the piss with their employees - not making excuses for useless delivery attempts, but you can see why a large majority of their delivery guys just don't give a toss. One of my worst jobs I'd say.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 11/12/2020 22:38

Our Hermes driver is very good. You always know if he's been off for a week as the complaints start appearing on the local Facebook page.

timeforanewstart · 11/12/2020 23:15

Did the guy park over your drive to deliver to you ? If so I really can't see problem

Travis1 · 11/12/2020 23:35

Does everyone realise that if you have delivery issues you go back to the company you bought from and they should deal with Hermes for you?

knackeredsanta · 11/12/2020 23:38

I work for Royal Mail, just want to say I know the service hasn't been as reliable as expected lately, my depot get Christmas temps each year usually 4 or 5, this year they hired 10 to try and help out. Only 4 turned up and 1 quit the first day. We managed to get 2 more and then 1 couldn't cope and I think we might be down another one. At my depot we are all going in early mostly unpaid and staying as late as we possibly can, while risking Covid. The difference between us and other couriers is they only have parcels and we have a walk with around 600-700 doors, I have never seen so many Christmas cards! We are all goosed but trying our best so everyone gets their Christmas presents in time.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 11/12/2020 23:44

knackeredsanta

Some relatives have worked for the Royal Mail. I know how hard you work this time of year and that is without the added workload due to Covid this year.

Our posties are lovely and so are the folk at the parcel office.

I bloody love you all Flowers

mygenericusername · 11/12/2020 23:47

@knackered Please explain to me where the ‘missing’ parcels go. I used to send all my large letter stuff (approx 100 per day) with you. The amount of item not received claims I received throughout November became a full time job.

They now go with the rest of my Hermes pick up because I just don’t need the aggravation from pissed off buyers who have been waiting for their items for weeks on end. Additionally, your customer service is an utter joke. It’s is virtually impossible to speak to a human being.

Woeismethischristmas · 11/12/2020 23:52

I live rurally and myhermes won't deliver to us. Got loads of deliveries when I first moved in and he moaned about driving out to us. Then he said I was abusive (was absolutely not) parcels still being returned to sender as refused 8 years later. I try and avoid them but amazon send the odd parcel. Stopped shopping with John lewis as they use them and get markies stuff delivered to store.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 12/12/2020 00:06

We're on a bend on a seriously dangerous country road. Driver could very easily not park across our drive. Admittedly I wouldn't have questioned him but dh was stuck on the road on a dangerous bend unable to drive in. A year later we are still receiving no parcels. We've approached Hermes - I even apologised (against dh's will) but still they refuse to deliver. Always say not in, broken or parcel refused.
