To want to put Hermes out of business

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

Sorry OP. Our Hermes driver is brilliant.

DryRoastPeanut · 11/12/2020 20:07

My local Hermes lady is lovely. Sorry you’re so unlucky but they ain’t all bad op.

hopeishere · 11/12/2020 20:07

Mine is great. I've got him a box of chocolates to say thanks!

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 11/12/2020 20:07

My ex-husband is a Hermes delivery driver, and whilst he is a prize cunt, he is also an excellent courier and is treated like absolute shit by his employer.
Come finishing time on Christmas Eve he will have worked over 30 days consecutively to make sure everyone gets their Christmas presents.
He's still a cunt though.

onyourway · 11/12/2020 20:08

We are semi rural. John from DPD is the best, DHL insist on reversing up the drive, Hermes just leave it by the gate and hope you find it before it gets soaked or nicked.

So I agree!

bigbluebus · 11/12/2020 20:08

Never had a problem with them. Our previous guy was fantastic - older chap, always happy to chat. He retired and a couple took over who share it between them. Never had an issue with them either - although I live in a street with logical house numbers so no reason they should struggle.

I have only ever had a problem with a delivery once and that was Yodel but in that case the parcel never actually made it out of the depot for delivery - it just disappeared.

gluteustothemaximus · 11/12/2020 20:08

I don't want any business to go, there's enough going as it is.

Ours is great, and we ship a lot too. Royal Mail suck at the moment, and Hermes have stepped in.

Hermes have a full tracking service and text messages and a time of when to expect them. Royal Mail is fingers crossed and hope for the best.

DailyFailstinks · 11/12/2020 20:09

A new Hermes driver has just taken over this week and he is awful! Like a previous poster he took a dislike to me when I said I wasn’t willing to take in a neighbour’s parcel (said neighbours are crazy and have accused the people on the other side of stealing their parcels). The next day he knocked on my door, told me he had a parcel for me but wasn’t going to hand it over. There’s no actual way of contacting Hermes- I’ve complained to the retailer but doubt anything will get done. No accountability whatsoever!

TheLadyOfShallnott · 11/12/2020 20:11

Have to say that our Hermes guys are fantastic.Star

TheFairyCaravan · 11/12/2020 20:12

We're rural and our Hermes delivery man is an absolute diamond. He knows I’m disabled and frequently in and out of hospital so he puts the parcels in the shed and drops a slip through the letterbox so carefully because he doesn’t want to disturb me if I’m asleep. I get upset if he has a week off.

I’ve got him some chocolates waiting for when he delivers tomorrow and DH can catch him

Nhsisfucked · 11/12/2020 20:12

We are rural and ours is fantastic, lovely chap, so much so we bought his Xmas chocolates as a thank you 😊

JonHammIsMyJamm · 11/12/2020 20:13

Our local Hermes delivery person used to be terrible, Lost, damaged and partially missing parcels. Our new one is great, no complaints.

Covidnomore · 11/12/2020 20:13

We have a lovely lady deliver our stuff.

We always have a chat.

Her kids are a similar age.

When you are stuck working from home its nice to see a friendly face.

Sunbird24 · 11/12/2020 20:13

I’m currently tracking a parcel with Hermes. See how far it’s got since they received it on Tuesday...

I have no issue with the couriers, how can they possibly deliver anything if the company keeps processing things over several days and doesn’t give them to a courier to take to the customer??

I’ve emailed the company I ordered from to express my frustrations. Doubt it’ll make much difference but it made me feel better, and I was very definite in that I blame Hermes and not them.

I send 250 parcels a day. Hermes are not a moment of bother compared to the utter shambles that is Royal Mail.

Ilovelblue · 11/12/2020 20:16

My Hermes man is lovely. During the two lockdowns, I have done quite a few online orders (I don't usually, prefer going to the shops) and we usually have a chat. If I'm not in, he knows exactly where to leave the parcel. They have a hard job and I would always treat him with courtesy and respect. I wouldn't want that job, that's for sure.

whatwedontknow · 11/12/2020 20:16

My regular Hermes is fab and so was the one before. Semi rural, though I imagine it would be harder for the driver in rural areas.

Can’t imagine he would have been parked over your drive long as they don’t have much time to drop parcels.

I do hear people having problems and if a problem does arise well Hermes company are totally crap. But the couriers don’t have it easy, I wouldn’t wish their job away.

These last few months Hermes have been far more reliable than Royal Mail.

hedgehoglurker · 11/12/2020 20:16

Ours have been great and I've been a huge online shopper for over 10 years - within M25, 2 miles outside M25 and now in a West Country village.

Woohoowoowoo · 11/12/2020 20:16

Definitely depends on the driver.

We moved into a new build last year and had an absolute nightmare with them. None of their drivers could find or be arsed looking for our house. I kept getting messages saying they'd attempted delivery but no one was in. Despite being in all day and no card being left. It wasn't until I sent a rant email to head office and started updating the app for every parcel to say I was happy for it to be left on the door step, that couriers rang me to ask for directions to my house.

In the summer, a nice lady started delivering in my area and she is absolutely fab. Leaves my parcels behind the gate because she knows I'm working.

My postman has also realised I'm WFH and keeps asking me to take in the neighbours parcels.

MondeoFan · 11/12/2020 20:16

I must admit if I know a company uses Hermes I try not to order from them.
I've had parcels that were marked fragile chucked over my side gate and parcels showing online as delivered when they clearly hadn't been.
It's very frustrating.
Dpd is the best.
Not sure what you can do tbh

Tingalingtortoise · 11/12/2020 20:17

Hermes is absolutely awful around us, I wish websites would tell you which courier they use before you order because I have never received a single order from Hermes. Not one single order.

listsandbudgets · 11/12/2020 20:17

Hermes round here is far better than the Royal Mail.

Smellbellina · 11/12/2020 20:18

Our Hermes delivery guy is great, he’s also the milkman

MrsR2be · 11/12/2020 20:19

I've had the same Hermes guy for years, he's fab, when I worked nights he always out my order in my safe place, my York driver is fab too. DHL are terrible

louisejxxx · 11/12/2020 20:20

Hermes are good in my area...as long as you don’t mind playing hide and seek once they’ve delivered your parcel! 😬

I will say though that this years deliveries have been ok, compared to the year they threw a parcel into my parents back garden in the pouring rain. They have an undercover porch.
