To want to put Hermes out of business

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

If it was my decision, there would be a requirement for you to know who the parcel carrier would be before you pay for any online sale, otherwise the goods are free to you.

Internet retailers would soon avoid Hermes or offer alternatives.

Simplyunacceptable · 11/12/2020 21:15

How long was the Hermes courier actually going to be parked there for though? They typically spend no more than two minutes delivering a parcel, your DH couldn’t possibly wait two minutes for the courier to move? Seriously?

My local Hermes courier is great. Really friendly guy, I’ve never had any issues with him.

AliceMadHatter · 11/12/2020 21:16

What a Thread, you sound awful.

SqueakyCaterpillar · 11/12/2020 21:17

It really is dependant on luck. The guy who delivers to me is excellent. Always within the time frame given, knocks loudly and leaves parcel where I’ve asked them to be left. Can’t complain.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 11/12/2020 21:17

My Hermes lady is fab, she's currently working 7 days a week in the run up to xmas. I am in her good books though as I always take parcels for neighbours (because I have nice neighbours who always pick up asap).

Things have improved generally with tracking apps though, so it's a lot easier to divert/set up a safe place etc than it used to be.

Pemba · 11/12/2020 21:18

I've just had the second parcel in a week go missing with Hermes, from different sellers. What seems to happen is the tracking just stops... And their website is useless, the online chat bot just keeps sending you round in a loop. Before this year I would have said Hermes were OK, but no longer.

I know Amazon are bad and don't pay their taxes etc but their deliveries are so reliable in comparison, that's why people keep returning to them I suppose.

SoupDragon · 11/12/2020 21:19

My local Hermes couriers are brilliant.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/12/2020 21:20

YES
every time I make the mistake of ordering from a supplier that uses Hermes, I'll get constant texts, saying
Good Morning, we'll deliver between 9am and 11am...
oops we're funning late, we'll deliver between 12.43 and 14.43
.... then nothing

Look at the online tracker, will state the parcel has been delivered,
even when I've been at home, so I know that it hasn't

Look at the online tracker in the morning, it will have changed, all the stuff about delivering it the following day wiped.
Then I'll get a text saying "Good Morning, we'll deliver between 9am and 11am... " and it starts all over again.

They denied my report to a supplier on one occasion and said I was lying - because it had happened so often I had screen shots to back it up.

Freddie's flowers on the other hand, dump a box of flowers with no address on it on a pavement in a central London street outside my home.

CustardySergeant · 11/12/2020 21:20

@AuntieMarys

My Hermes guy is fantastic!
Same here. He's so lovely and we've never had a single problem.
lioncitygirl · 11/12/2020 21:21

Our Hermes driver is bloody great - he loves our kids and puts up with all their questions, he even got them a present for Christmas last year.

NOG2014 · 11/12/2020 21:21

I agree with you. I've complained to them today in fact as I've been waiting since the third week of November for a parcel. They say they cannot find the property on the tracking but they come here all of the time. Our delivery guy told me that he saves our parcels up in his van as Hermes has cut his per parcel rate by 20p and so it isn't worth his while delivering just one parcel. Its rubbish but I don't necessarily blame him. Hermes need to treat their staff better for the service to improve. My heart does always sink when I see they are the company delivering a parcel I've ordered though.

whatwedontknow · 11/12/2020 21:23

@Homemadearmy

I've found royal mail have been awful. Ordered 3 items from big retailers on 30th Nov. I'm still waiting for 2 of them. That are sitting in Northampton depot. Not tracking update
John Lewis? I have the same problem, ordered in November, stuck in same depot, no updates.
RaspberryCoulis · 11/12/2020 21:24

I have heard lots of people complaining about them but the guy who delivers for them round here is fine.

unipixie · 11/12/2020 21:25

Hermes man is great in my area. He even holds on to the parcel if he knows it's due while I'm not at home and tries again in the evening. He's come out while on his way to do his own shopping once because he remembered I had told him my daughters birthday was coming up, because he thought it might be for her. Post man is also good, but Royal Mail is unreliable

nicky7654 · 11/12/2020 21:32

They are rubbish. I have waited in all day for a parcel to be collected and I get a text at 4 saying 'we couldn't deliver your parcel today as no safe place to leave it' with recipients name and not mine!!!! It was meant to be collected !!

isadoradancing123 · 11/12/2020 21:33

Terrible in this area, complaints every single day on local facebook

DimidDavilby · 11/12/2020 21:34

Love my hermes guy

Sweettea1 · 11/12/2020 21:37

My hermes guy is great fingers crossed it continues had same one for a couple of years now not one issue

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 11/12/2020 21:40

Hermes have lost two of my parcels. And apparently they don't scan their 48 hour guaranteed deliveries until they are ready. So they take longer than 48 hours.

RockysMa · 11/12/2020 21:43

Oh god I'm waiting on a parcel since 30 Nov. Tried emailing and ringing but Its impossible to get through to a human
Anyone got a number other than the one on their website (0330 808 5456)??

Iwantmychairback · 11/12/2020 21:47

I live quite rurally. My Hermes driver is brilliant. She texts me to say I have a delivery and let’s me know that she will leave it in ‘my special place’.
When I had to arrange collection, I left it outside as I was out all day and again she text to let me know it had been collected.
No complaints here. In fact I’ll be leaving her a little gift this Christmas.

DieSchottin93 · 11/12/2020 21:48

YABU. Our local Hermes lady is great and all my parcels arrive on time. We gave her a Christmas card with a wee tip last week Smile although we almost missed her because she's got a bigger van now and we didn't recognise it Grin

TimeQuest01 · 11/12/2020 21:50

I love my Hermes guy, Never had a problem with them (with lots and lots of deliveries)

Batmanandbobbin · 11/12/2020 21:50

I’m the same at rottiemum88 if I knew my Hermes would deliver I’d have never placed my order. Useless where I am.

cdtaylornats · 11/12/2020 21:51

I ask the company if it is a Hermes delivery. If they say yes then I say no thanks. They often can send what I want using someone else. A couple of companies I use often have it on my file.
