To want to put Hermes out of business

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

I'm surprised so many people have had decent experiences with them! I always think this video sums it up well Grin

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 12/12/2020 05:58

BethlehemIsTier1 I'm so sorry about that. Mine obviously stole my packages. Yodel repeatedly dismissed me and closed the investigation because the driver said he left it in a safe space I don't even have.

Luckily for some reason the supplier refunded me before it's investigation with Yodel was completed. But Yodel told the supplier the items had been delivered and essentially called me a liar. Only for the driver to come back today with all the packages he claimed to have delivered on Sunday and Tuesday. I think because the items were bulky he must have thought they were something with either a good resale value or something he could keep.

I'm annoyed at all the admin I have to do now returning the items after reordering. I really wish companies would stop using Yodel

todayIdrankmilk · 12/12/2020 05:59

I've had various Hermes delivery people, male and female, over the years. All have been great.
I have had one package go missing and the company quickly replaced it so YABU and mean for wanting to put them out of business.

They are self employed so can choose who to deliver to and who not to. The driver probably found your dh intimidating or threatening. So now will not deliver to you.

MrsSDK · 12/12/2020 05:59

Rural here, always had great experiences with Hermes. Don't get me started on Yodel!

todayIdrankmilk · 12/12/2020 06:00

@wasgoingmadinthecountry

Maybe it's our area then - we are very very rural so I appreciate they earn less money from us. Hermes are at fault obviously not the drivers (except ours!)
With that attitude I wouldn't deliver to you either
Beautiful3 · 12/12/2020 06:04

Ours are good.

Stillgoings · 12/12/2020 06:55

I love your Hermes woman. I'm going to get her a Christmas present

knackeredsanta · 12/12/2020 07:19

@mygenericusername I am but a simple postie so I'm not going to lie and say I know every bit of the logistics that the company does. I can tell you though that the company dealt with approx 175 million more parcels than November last year, I would imagine they are are having issues with temps everywhere and I know of at least one mail centre with half the staff of having to self isolate. Honestly your items are probably sitting in a centre somewhere as tracked/special items were being prioritised to try to make space. I can only tell you from my depot we are all working our butts off and going way above and beyond to try our best.

kizkiz · 12/12/2020 07:59

I've had a hermes parcel stuck on a status of "we're sorry for the delay, but your parcel will be on its way within 24 hours"
That was on the 4th

INeedADayOff · 12/12/2020 08:10

Hermes are crap here! I tend to avoid anyone who uses them. I ordered from Boohoo (I think I’ve had so many from Hermes not arrive) paid for next day delivery I waited and waited and waited, no one entered the village, or the yard! Marked as delivered, took me ages to get a refund, I had to send copy of the CCTV footage showing no one entered my yard at the time of alleged delivery, a copy of my signature.

The best we have In this area are Amazon, followed by DPD, followed by yodel.

I appreciate their pay is awful and I appreciate we live rurally but I want my bloody items.

IamMaz · 12/12/2020 08:26

Our Hermes lady is marvellous!

SimonJT · 12/12/2020 08:39

Hermes isn’t great where I live, they were always saying they no one was in (our building has a porter, you can literally see him from the entrance), so they were leaving parcels in a ‘safe place’. The safe place was being lent against the outer wall of the building but out of view of the porter. One of our residents set up a camera from his balcony, the driver would put the parcel there, record it, then take the parcel into her van to steal it. Parcels had been going missing for months, some items were really expensive as well.

Longpinknails · 12/12/2020 08:45

My problem is with Yodel....our woman insists on coming right to the door and is in my face when I open it - or she sends her child to deliver whilst she sits in her car on her phone. If anyone deserves an award this year for delivering perfectly though, in my opinion, it should be Amazon. Never had any problem at all. I think they’re amazing. I also think that at this time of the year it’s not easy for any delivery driver, As on-line orders have increased so much.

Doingitaloneandproud · 12/12/2020 08:51

Hermes and DHL are pretty good round here (London) but Royal Mail are shocking right now, 3 weeks to get a first class package and still waiting

GregoryRowling · 12/12/2020 08:57

My Hermes man is great, he is actually the only person I ever tip (restaurants excluded). He makes my life easier

Danglingmod · 12/12/2020 08:59

Never ever had an issue with Hermes, wherever I've lived. Royal Mail, either.

DPD, on the other hand...

christmasathomeagain · 12/12/2020 14:02

I've only ever had one issue when they said item was delivered and it wasn't- we were in waiting for the parcel. Other than that they are pretty good here. Occasionally say we aren't in when we are but Amazon do that to.

Penners99 · 12/12/2020 14:04

My Hermes ladies (there are two) are FANTASTIC!

MistletoeandGin · 12/12/2020 14:07

Ours are brilliant. Rural area. I’d hate for them to go out of business as the lovely delivery drivers would lose their jobs.

FuzzyPenguin · 12/12/2020 14:12

We have 3 Hermes drivers who cover town for the most part no issues there was one a while who as terrible but they didn’t last long.
Yodel they are useless the woman who delivers smokes and your parcels stink when she drops them off 3 days later that you are expecting them.

Crappyfridays7 · 12/12/2020 16:37

My Hermes guy is fab, really nice friendly chap will return with parcel in Eve if I’m out knows where to leave if so & likes the dog abs was sad when he died recently. Dpd guy really nice too. Postman is friendly and helpful & only one I don’t rate is parcel force who left parcels at side of a log in my front garden and they vanished. You’ve been unlucky op.

AuntHilda · 12/12/2020 16:41

Mine is fantastic, and she always brings a treat for the dog too Smile

cologne4711 · 12/12/2020 16:48

I've not had a bad experience with Hermes but I've seen so many other people say that they have, that my heart sinks when I see that a website uses them. I can only think they are very cheap for the website owners.

I think you should always get a choice of courier, even if you have to pay a bit extra.

cologne4711 · 12/12/2020 16:49

To be fair Royal Mail are utterly rubbish at the moment, we are only getting deliveries every other day.

Now it could happen that you get no letters one day, but when you get about 8 letters one day, none the next and it starts to be a pattern - and you don't even see the post (wo)man in the road, you know something is up.

Blueberrycreampie · 12/12/2020 16:56

I think it depends where you are OP. Ours is excellent and keeps us informed on our local Facebook page.
