To want to put Hermes out of business

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 11/12/2020 19:55

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

@Tingalingtortoise

Hermes is absolutely awful around us, I wish websites would tell you which courier they use before you order because I have never received a single order from Hermes. Not one single order.
I came on to say this! I would gladly pay a slightly higher delivery fee to choose the courier I wanted when order from somewhere.

DPD or Royal Mail would be my choice

SpeckledyHen · 11/12/2020 20:43

We are rural and our guy is amazing.

Cyberattack · 11/12/2020 20:43

I agree - Hermes is absolutely useless. I complain about them regularly. They make so many mistakes. Have also had the "no-one was in" message (several times) when it was a complete lie.
DHL is the best of a bad lot.

Longpinknails · 11/12/2020 20:44

I’m in Essex, our Hermes delivery lady is fab.

LuaDipa · 11/12/2020 20:44

Our Hermes driver is excellent. He doesn’t hang around to chat but my parcels are always left for me at my front door (which is perfectly safe as we live in the middle of nowhere). Unlike Royal Mail who take my parcels to their sorting office without bothering to update their ever-changing opening hours. I pretty much have to guess when they might be open and never seem to get it right. It’s like some sort of unwinnable game. Give me Hermes any day.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/12/2020 20:44

Our current Hermes courier is fab. The one before was too.

A friend is a Hermes person. Her delivery numbers are mental. Recently she had someone say to throw the parcel over the fence. They then posted the CCTV footage of her throwing it over the fence to complain. She will no longer deliver to that customer.

NewPapaGuinea · 11/12/2020 20:44

I get Hermes to drop it at my local shop now. Don’t trust where and in what condition I’ll receive it otherwise.

iMatter · 11/12/2020 20:45

Our Hermes delivery guy is great as was our last one.

Confusedandshaken · 11/12/2020 20:45

I've lost count of the number of parcels we've had delivered over the last 9 months. No problems with Hermes, Royal Mail, DPD. Yodel doesn't seem to operate around here. The only ones that seem shite are UPS.

Hermes also seem pretty good at picking up when I've had to send stuff.

user1471505494 · 11/12/2020 20:45

Our local driver is great. The only problem I have had was due to another driver having my parcel due to a road closure. It wasn’t delivered. The next morning I mentioned it to our regular driver. He delivered it that night on his way home. No complaints here

Dongdingdong · 11/12/2020 20:47

Not DHL, DPD. They are hopeless.

Where I live (London) DPD are the best.

TillyTopper · 11/12/2020 20:47

Our Hermes guy was awful - as we are in a gated court he used to just chuck everything for all the houses over the gate. But I saw him one day and explained that everyone was complaining about him, told him nicely that he needed to up his game, explained how to get in - he's since been perfect.

mumwon · 11/12/2020 20:48

I posted a card yesterday
stamp was on the front next to the address
I wrote a clear "from" my address on the back - cue my dh this morning running after postman as it had been delivered back here to us! - I posted it in the post office at the counter in our town! the poor postie took one look & looked embarrassed & hopefully we wont get it back (I am hoping all the other cards get to there destination).

Molehillfromamountain · 11/12/2020 20:49

We are pretty rural and our last Hermes guy was dreadful, smoked in the van so everything stank, didn't come to us if it was dark as he didn't like driving in the dark (he told me this), left everything
by the gate in all weather as there are steps to the front door.
We have a new couple this year who deliver together and are much better, they even do the text update thing so I know when to expect them.
It's a crappy job and if never complain at them if they were blocking the lane though.

AnnnaBananna · 11/12/2020 20:49

My Hermes delivery guy is fantastic! But more importantly he’s incredibly hot and brightens my day for 30 seconds every time he smiles at me on my front doorstep.

mumwon · 11/12/2020 20:49

doh! their!

McT123 · 11/12/2020 20:50

So your husband complained (however politely) to a courier driver for delaying him getting in to his drive. How long was the delay? A few seconds? A minute or two? No wonder the Hermes driver doesn't like him...
Does he complain to bus drivers if they hold him up as well?

PickAChew · 11/12/2020 20:50

Never had a bad hermes driver, yet.

On the other hand, Royal mail have had something of mine stuck at one of their centres since this time last week and I'm wondering whether I'll ever receive it.

Catladyisback · 11/12/2020 20:50

Precovid days hermes were still terrible. I ordered a hula hoop for dd, which arrived 2 weeks late, having travelled from original hub to Rugby, then Dundee then finally to me. As I wasn't in the left it in my "porch". I don't have a porch, I live a flat so they stuffed it in the doorframe, so now I have a squashed hula hoop.

These days when I see hermes are delivering I am already expecting the worst and so far they haven't disappointed.

3 orders last week and only one successfully delivered to me. One left with neighbour, one just left outside the door without knocking. All at least 3 days late when I paid for nominated (not even next day) delivery.

Never had an issue with anyone else.

Hermes are the worst.

Fudgefeet · 11/12/2020 20:51

I use Hermes everyday for work and they have been brilliant. A bit less so with European deliveries but UK I have had no problems ever.

Shopaholic100 · 11/12/2020 20:53

Previous Hermes driver was training for the Olympics I think, the way he used to throw things over the back gate into the garden. The current one hangs things on the door handle, making it obvious to everyone we’re not at home.

DPD are amazing here, they arrive to the the exact minute, I had a delivery due from 10.02-11.02 and they turned up exactly at 10.02. They always let you know when they’re delivering too, so you can plan your day.

MummytoCSJH · 11/12/2020 20:53

Both my local hermes deliver drivers (one that delivers to mine and one to my mums) are abysmal. Not caused by covid as they were just as useless before! They may be underworked/underpaid but it's their job, which they choose, and I'm not sure why that means something I've paid for should not be delivered or should be damaged because they don't care enough about doing their job correctly. Especially frustrating pay extra for quick delivery then they come up with a crap excuse. The longest I've waited for a parcel was 17 days after it was collected by hermes because nobody could get in contact with the courier. I'd paid for next day delivery! I would also pay more to NOT receive parcels through hermes and I try my best to actively avoid companies that use them.

Planty13 · 11/12/2020 20:54

Mine is good and efficient. I live in a small town

Domino45 · 11/12/2020 20:54

Our local myhermes guy is fab. But totally agree it depends who the delivery person is.

AlfredaLinguini · 11/12/2020 20:54

My Hermes guy is fab. He wears red trousers.
