To want to put Hermes out of business

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

Hermes is bloody useless. Give me Royal Mail any day!

Bluet1t · 11/12/2020 20:34

I'm sure it depends on the driver, but our local Hermes driver is absolutely notorious for making you wait in all day, pushing the delivery slot back until that latest available, then sending an update to say you weren't in and they'll try tomorrow, despite never attempting to deliver!

I also complained to HO as I was sick of paying for next day delivery and it not coming on time.

But today by parcel came completely squashed 😔

fucknuckle · 11/12/2020 20:34

i love my Hermes lady. i live in a flat in a very tucked-away house down a private road and often delivery drivers find it hard to locate me. she is always chatty and lovely and i am very happy with her.

when i lived semi-rurally the Hermes lady there was also fab.

Oysterbabe · 11/12/2020 20:35

We have a couple of different Hermes men, both nice and very helpful.

Doublebubblebubble · 11/12/2020 20:35

YABU

Ive had a so/so experience with Hermes.
However, you cant seriously want to wish an entire company's worth of drivers out of business because the driver in your area is a numpty. Either use a different courier or find it elsewhere. I know that these items are probably christmas gifts IE your panic but the driver probably has a LOT on their plate right now too.

SuperheroBirds · 11/12/2020 20:35

@wasgoingmadinthecountry

It's obviously very much down to the driver then. How many of you are very rural?
We are very rural, but we have a lovely Hermes guy. I think it must be luck of the draw as to who you get, but in the 4 years I’ve lived out here I haven’t ever had a bad word to say about our service.
VinylDetective · 11/12/2020 20:35

@Luckyrabbitfoot

They have just left my parcel with a neighbour when I specified that I didn’t want it leaving with a neighbour. Argh! Too bloody late to go around now too
Seriously? It’s only 8.35!
Nousernameforme · 11/12/2020 20:35

We have an agreement with our Hermes guy he tries the door if its open he just leaves it inside and shouts delivery if it's not he leaves it where it can't be seen by street. Always more wary of a Yodel

AliceMadHatter · 11/12/2020 20:36

@AuntieMarys

My Hermes guy is fantastic!
Mine too.
Brighterthansunflowers · 11/12/2020 20:36

The biggest problem I have with Hermes is that they just don’t give a fuck how shit they are.

Their whole business model is built on being shit.

i avoided trouble with them for a while by getting parcels delivered to a one of their drop off point shops ( presumably because even Hermes realised they couldn’t claim nobody was there when they “attempted delivery”). But I’m now working from home and avoiding going to shops unless I have to. And since I’m home all day I shouldn’t have to!

I avoid companies who use Hermes if I possibly can and would much rather pay a bit more to have Royal Mail who actually turn up reliably and I can walk to the sorting office to collect if I miss them

Daisy829 · 11/12/2020 20:36

My Hermes lady is amazing. She works with her husband and they are so good. When I was struggling for work they put me in touch with their manager who offered me a job. Lovely people. In the end my work picked up so I didn’t need the job but they are fab.

LubaLuca · 11/12/2020 20:37

Our Hermes man is a good egg too. He's friendly, he uses his initiative and nothing's gone astray in his care.

viccat · 11/12/2020 20:37

It really depends on who you have as others have said. I used to have a really annoying guy who knocked super quietly and then practically ran away to the take parcel to the furthest away neighbour possible. Hmm

The current Hermes guy is friendly, helpful, always on time and here more often than Royal Mail these days. Their work is really not easy and the pay is awful.

At the moment Royal Mail is really struggling in my area, we just had post for the first time all week today.

littleharissa · 11/12/2020 20:37

Use Hermes daily.
Fantastic!

Have lived in 3 locations all over the UK and each time the driver is lovely

midinthenight · 11/12/2020 20:38

The woman who delivers for Hermes here is fabulous! No complaints at all

smismas · 11/12/2020 20:38

I'd never had an issue until last week when a delivery (worth £200!!) was due while we weren't home, so I used the link in the email they sent to request that our parcel is left in our 'safe place'. They sent a photo of it sat outside the front door- definitely not a safe place! OH had to ring round his family to find someone who could go and pick it up from the doorstep for us.

AaronPurr · 11/12/2020 20:38

Another one here who think my local Hermes workers are great, i've never had a problem with them. I would much rather have a delivery from them than the current shit show that is Royal mail, and i'm not surprised to see others on the thread also agree with this.

Bathbrush · 11/12/2020 20:39

I’m really lucky, our local Hermes guy is active on our village Facebook page and he deals with any problems.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 11/12/2020 20:39

I’m fed up with Royal Mail and with M&S who use them. Why they can’t put orders together is beyond me, when other companies are able to. I ordered three items. One has arrived and one has gone to Yorkshire. I’m at the other end of the country. No idea whether there’s a third parcel. Royal Mail know this time of year is going to be busy every year and they’ve had time to adjust to the current situation since March.

ThirstyGhost · 11/12/2020 20:40

Anyone who says they have a local hermes driver is probably semi-rural or rural. I think they might be fine if you have a regular and reliable driver, maybe. I'm in urban Glasgow and Hermes are shockingly bad here. In defence of the delivery guys, they treat their drivers and other staff like shit though. I have a mate who worked with them and of all the courier companies he's worked for he said they are the absolute worst (to their staff). He's with Royal Mail now and loves it.

I had a Hermes parcel randomly turn up the other day battered and torn and left stuffed between the bins. No email, no message, nothing... It was addressed to me - an eBay parcel from A YEAR AGO. No idea WTF happened. I've just contacted a confused seller who had refunded me some 11 months ago to transfer money back as it's finally turned up and it WAS the post being slow. Just really f*ing slow.

Homemadearmy · 11/12/2020 20:40

I've found royal mail have been awful. Ordered 3 items from big retailers on 30th Nov. I'm still waiting for 2 of them. That are sitting in Northampton depot. Not tracking update

elsaesmeralda · 11/12/2020 20:41

Our Hermes guy is brilliant

Pimmsypimms · 11/12/2020 20:41

Ah my Hermes delivery woman is fab! Sorry yours is shit op. We are pretty rural

Longdistance · 11/12/2020 20:41

I know the Hermes driver, the Yodel driver, the Royal Mail driver and DPD driver. No problems with any of them. They know me by name and this is at home and at work (school).

Forkrightorf · 11/12/2020 20:42

Also love our Hermes driver, he is so reliable and has never messed me around. Yodel on the other hand Angry
