To want to put Hermes out of business

To want something done about the utter uselessness of Hermes.

I don't know a single person with anything good to say about Hermes (deliveries not bags obvs!) and I seem to spend so much time sorting out stuff they have messed up. Why are we putting up with it?

Our local guy refuses to deliver to us. He took a dislike to dh who asked him (politely) not to park over our drive as he couldn't get in one day and it's a bendy country road. Driver could have parked either side or gone into our drive. It's painful, especially this year when everything is online.

I've tried ordering to work - a school - and have still had a message at 11am to say no-one's in. Of course they are, it's a SCHOOL!! Come on people, what can we do??

Sorry, since Monday.

To want to put Hermes out of business

Adding to the Hermes love, I'm rural and my chap is amazing always comes around the same time, and he can sneak in and out without making my dogs bark and always takes my returns and leaves me the little card.

Yodel and UPS leave a lot to be desired in my area.

londongirl12 · 11/12/2020 20:57

Hermes are awful in our area!!!!

crimsonlake · 11/12/2020 20:57

Yesterday I missed a delivery from Hermes as it was delivered a day early...no card left.
Today received a text saying delivery between 10am - 12pm, it turned up at 3pm.

diamondpony80 · 11/12/2020 20:57

Love my Hermes guy - he’s the best and most consistent delivery driver I’ve had. Not rural here.

AgathaX · 11/12/2020 20:57

We're rural and our hermes guy is brilliant.

beavisandbutthead · 11/12/2020 20:58

we have had recent issues on our street with hermes. I got a notification stating my parcel had been delivered at 23.45. No way did they knock my door was I was up and my dog would have barked his head off. Went on line to challenge the delivery as there was nothing outside and I was shared a photo confirming safe delivery. Pitch black photo. Later the next day my parcel was posted through my letter box. Same situation with neighbours

ZiggysPFrow · 11/12/2020 20:59

We are rural and our Hermes lady is totally fab... I have no idea how she manages it round here as no one has a house number (all names) and some of the roads don't even have proper names! She's a delivering genius and she is so friendly

LadyEloise · 11/12/2020 20:59

DPD dire in Dublin.
Customer service non existent.
DH and I had to alternate staying in for a DPD parcel collection. No time was given at all despite me phoning them twice telling them I needed to leave the house.
The guy collected it about 6 pm and then I got an email at 7pm !!! telling me from what depot the courier would be leaving from, if I wanted any information🙄

Another guy, on an earlier call trying to get an idea of the collection time, gave me a number to ring for information. It was the number I was on the line to with him at that very moment🙄
Jesus wept.

Peppafrig · 11/12/2020 20:59

Mine is lovely goes up above and beyond all the time. Couldn’t recommend Hermes enough .

kennycat · 11/12/2020 21:00

They are useless. I wouldn't choose to use them. They have lost so many parcels for either my husband or me. There is obviously a big hermes hole they've all been put in.

mynameiscalypso · 11/12/2020 21:01

@ThirstyGhost

Anyone who says they have a local hermes driver is probably semi-rural or rural. I think they might be fine if you have a regular and reliable driver, maybe. I'm in urban Glasgow and Hermes are shockingly bad here. In defence of the delivery guys, they treat their drivers and other staff like shit though. I have a mate who worked with them and of all the courier companies he's worked for he said they are the absolute worst (to their staff). He's with Royal Mail now and loves it.

I had a Hermes parcel randomly turn up the other day battered and torn and left stuffed between the bins. No email, no message, nothing... It was addressed to me - an eBay parcel from A YEAR AGO. No idea WTF happened. I've just contacted a confused seller who had refunded me some 11 months ago to transfer money back as it's finally turned up and it WAS the post being slow. Just really f*ing slow.

We're central London and have a regular Hermes guy (and all the other major delivery companies too). Others do one off deliveries but we definitely have a main one.
Pixie2015 · 11/12/2020 21:02

We’ve just bought ours a Christmas present they have been great over last few months

HelpIcantfindaname · 11/12/2020 21:02

Hermes often send a message to say I wasn't in when I've been sitting listening for the door... so annoying.

But the worst thing they do is to take a pic of where they left the parcel.... if its with a neighbour why can't they put a door number on too? We have to walk up & down the street comparing the photo to people's doorsteps so we know where to knock..

Backbee · 11/12/2020 21:04

I think it's largely down to luck on who your local drivers are. The ones here are pretty good, no better or worse than any others.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 11/12/2020 21:05

my local Hermes lady is great.

TNT on the other hand...
They delivered a parcel yesterday, addressed to my house but for someone I've never heard of, and we know all the nearest neighbours. I refused to take it.
Today, when we were all out, they dumped it back on my doorstep Hmm.

Fiftiesfresh · 11/12/2020 21:05

Well Im in your camp OP. I dont order if I find out Hermes are the courier unless I can use click and collect (parcel shop). Although sometimes lately it has not been obvious when ordering that this is the case. I think possibly some online companies dont advertise they use Hermes on purpose.
We are not at all rural, live on a main road. Our problems range from throwing a parcel over a 6ft wrought iron gate, in the rain, in full view of the main road. Leaving a damaged cardboard parcel marked ''fragile'' on our doorstep in the pouring rain, leaving another between two plant pots near the front door, which the tracking information said ''delivered securely'' and when challenged denying any of it.

Dont get me started on the timeslots - if they are given at all they are invariably wildly inaccurate...once arrived an hour and a quarter early, quite often he texts the timeslot and arrives five minutes later, other times I get the timeslot at 8 or 9 at night when the parcel has arrived mid afternoon with no notice, as clearly he has forgotten to send it or couldnt be bothered, then it is immediately followed by a ''delivered'' message presumably so he can sign the delivery off on the system. This is on the occasions I get a timeslot at all.
At our previous house, several times parcels were left in the wheelie bins or on the doormat. On one occasion an expensive item was thrown over our next door neighbours back fence ( no access whatsoever to our house at the back). The tracking information had a photo of the parcel outside someones back gate, with the message ''delivered to your nominated safe place (shed)''. We didnt have a shed, it wasnt in anyone elses, hadnt in fact nominated any ''safe place'', and it took 3 days and heavy rain for it to be located at the bottom of said neighbours long garden.

hiredandsqueak · 11/12/2020 21:05

We have really good delivery drivers here, no complaints about any of them and our postman has been exceptionally good as well this year.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 11/12/2020 21:05

Their customer service is awful. Last year, my kid's main Christmas present got stuck at one of their depots. It was so hard to get through to a human being. When I did, they would claim it had been sorted and would come the next day. It never did. I had to get the company to resend it in the end.

And I recently posted something small to a friend. After about a week, I looked on their tracking and it was listed as being on her local depot. Checked a few days later, the tracking number was no longer valid and still no sign of it. But they won't speak to you without a tracking number. I eventually had to email the CEO to get a response (which I'm aware is an over reaction, but I can't stand poor customer service!)

shehadsomuchpotential · 11/12/2020 21:08

Our hermes lady is legendary! The community love her. She knows the rules for each house and leaves things where people are happy etc if not in. We do seem to feel it if we get a stand in doing her round though

rslsys · 11/12/2020 21:08

Down to the driver, our guy is fantastic and has been for the last 6 years since he got the gig.
Guy who delivers to daughter (12 miles from us) is shit. So much so she now has her stuff delivered to us.
Don’t get me started on DHL who swear black is white that they handed me a parcel in person, despite their van and driver not appearing on the Ring doorbell or 3 other cameras on the day and time they claim to have been here!

lalafafa · 11/12/2020 21:09

We have a lovely lady from Hermes, really goes out of her way to get a parcel to you. She’s been delivering to our area for a couple of years. She even uses my loo.

mantlepiece · 11/12/2020 21:10

Our Hermes delivery guy is also fantastic. Goes above and beyond necessary. Royal Mail lady is good too.

Dishwashersaurous · 11/12/2020 21:12

My Hermes lady is utterly fantastic and a credit

Piratedoor · 11/12/2020 21:14

I gave my hermes driver a gift card for Christmas today, he's fantastic and I've never had had any issues with hermes in general wither, at home or in work
