I am past caring now.
I feel for people who didn't want Brexit. Who know all the implications and can see the issues that are coming.

But if you want No Deal Brexit and it fucks you up, tough shit.

You wanted it. You get it. You own it.

And pardon me if I don't give a shit anymore about you.

So if you want to change the politics of this country you need to change the opinions of people who vote differently

This is true but also virtually impossible on such a complex issue. This is precisely why we have an elected government to grabbel with the issues on our behalf. Throwing such a complicated issue open to a referendum was only going to end in tears especially when the governance surrounding it was so appalling. Honestly, I’ve kinda come to terms with it at this point, it just makes me feel sad and frustrated.

Prozacyogurt · 11/12/2020 20:48

It's democracy so get over it.

Ah yes democracy, where slightly over 25% of the population get to fuck over everyone for generations to come.

I really, really wish we could put a system in place where those who voted leave are first in line for any brexit benefits but also the first to bear the brunt of all the negatives.

BorisSortYourHairOutAndBrexit · 11/12/2020 20:49

Boris can’t even negotiate with his hairdresser, how on earth did anyone think he could be put in charge of brexit?

All the total crap that was spouted about it being in the EU’s interests to want a deal, blah, blah, blah. What happens now exactly?

It’s a shit show of epic proportions. It’s those who are poorest who will be hurt the most. Not the millionaires in the Tory party who can make money in any economy.

Icebear99 · 11/12/2020 20:50

If you read up on the vote in the 70's over our mmembership the then EC then people could claim they were tricked then as much as leave voters could claim to have been now - they were told it was for economic trade etc, not the EU that we now have. So maybe the issue is that people didn't get a say initially?
As for no deal, that's been a given since the vote - a number of new members delayed taking the euro due to the EU debt and the Greece issue, there is genuine concern in the EU that other countries may follow if they are seen to be weak and we as a nation do well.

Haffiana · 11/12/2020 20:51

@Northernshepherd

Haffiania you realise the vote won't be taken away from people for being hungry or northern much as u might like thst. So if you want to change the politics of this country you need to change the opinions of people who vote differently.
I don't need to change their opinions. I won't however feel any sympathy watching them live with the consequences of their choices. They voted, they are entitled to vote, and now they have got what they voted for and they can eat it.

They can carry on making the same mistake forever as far as I am concerned. They won't though, they will blame someone else when food prices skyrocket.

Applesonthelawn · 11/12/2020 20:53

I'm glad I don't know anyone like you in real life. Wishing bad things on people who exercised their right to vote differently to you, moaning away because it didn't go the way you wanted. Get a grip it's pathetic now.

akerman · 11/12/2020 20:53

It’s not democracy FFS.

Democracy demands on clear, full information being presented to voters and, in the case of a referendum, two clearly understood outcomes.

It does not depend on foreign influence and lies. Had our referendum been binding, it would have been deemed untenable under the terms of the Vienna convention.

How can we still be needing to explain this?

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/12/2020 20:53

@Livelovebehappy

Get a grip OP. TBH, I’ve not heard anyone regret having voted leave. Because no-one has experienced any consequences of leaving yet. We really don’t know what life will be like post Brexit. No-one knows. Unless of course you’re listening to the media’s predictions of doom and gloom, and when are they ever right? They just stir the pot. Other countries within Europe have managed fine outside the EU. Let’s just see how it goes before hyper ventilating about it.
  1. the point is that no one knows because 4 years was not enough for these fuckers to do proper analysis of if--then scenarios.
  1. We don't know that in 21 days what will be the tariffs - how will they be collected who is going to do the customs checks when is the customs software going to be ready and usable -- how will customs deal with information in lieu of having a software for it -... and the practical logistics related list goes on
  1. 79% of UK gdp is from services. We don't know what tariffs or other taxes will come into play on them
  1. We have no idea what product groups we -as a country- have on stock. I love tomatoes, but a bit more nerve racking is ie. drugs or wastewater treating chemicals.

21 days before a no deal brexit it would be a reassurance to know that there was/is within the gov machine who actually are looking at these. But there isn't.
To sum it up: we can pretty accurately predict that it's going to be a shitshow from jan 1.

Ihatefish · 11/12/2020 20:53

Well I think that the EUs (and I’m particularly looking at France and Germany here) attitude justifies leaving the EU.

Empires rise and fall. As they fall the rulers of the empires panic and get aggressive trying to cling to power.

Pick up any history book any you’ll see the same patterns over and over.

I don't wish bad things on them. But if a turkey voted for Christmas, then I am not going to feel sympathy when they end up on the serving plate.

I'm so fucking angry about Brexit and the impact on our children's futures. I'm not 'getting over' anything cheers. I'm having my EU identity erased against my will for THIS.

So yes, OP, I have moments when I do feel like that. I hardly know any Brexit voters - just one friend, who claims now that she didn't really understand what she voting for.

I have moments when I think "You voted for this fucking mess, fucking deal with it." And then I calm down - I'm more compassionate than that and I don't actually want anyone to suffer.

And then I read something that that FUCKWIT Johnson has said or done, and then the cycle of "Well, you all voted for it...so fuck you' begins again.

It's massive. It's a seismic, catastrophic nightmare for this country, in the teeth of a pandemic. It's a self-inflicted wound that won't heal for generations. Anyone who suggests that remainers should just 'get over it' can definitely fuck off. And it's one of the very, very few times that I would say it in rl as well.

Tellmetruth4 · 11/12/2020 20:55

I really feel sorry for the people in red wall areas who didn’t want this. Let’s not forget that many ‘leave’ areas were still 60/40 which means a lot of people in those areas didn’t want this. They knew that Brexit would negatively impact their areas the most. The red wall areas will be scapegoated. Places like the wealthier parts of Essex (not Kent which will be hit harder than most of the South East due to euro traffic) will probably be ok even though they voted to leave with larger majorities than Sunderland. London will suffer a blip but like post 2008 crash will probably be ok after a year or so.

The North will be hit hard. Many southern English have bought into the media driven narrative that it’s all of the northern English who wanted Brexit rather than a slight majority of useful idiots so won’t give a shit. We can already see this happening. Meanwhile the architects of this, will sell off with what’s left of our assets and make a killing and encourage us with the help of their media chums to fight amongst ourselves. They are traitors.

We are an international embarrassment. Half of the country can see it, and the rest cannot. We will be a little island cut off from our own continent, begging countries on the other side of the world for trade deals for food.

@Livelovebehappy

We are not going to starve. Fact. Some food may be more difficult to get initially, but there will be other food to eat instead. For people to say otherwise is just scaremongering.
Oh great! What a wonderful picture you paint.

Leavers can fuck off. All of you.
Don’t care about your opinions, don’t care about how fucked up your lives are gonna be. You have changed the future of this country, and for our young people’s worldliness, so much in the negative, that you can fucking rot.

akerman · 11/12/2020 20:57

And no, it wasn’t only about trade in the 1970s. More lies. Here’s Ted Heath laying it out for the nation.

stepintotwitmas · 11/12/2020 20:57

It is so embarrassing that the people representing our country in the eyes of the world are Boris Johnson and Michael Gove. Can half the country really not see these people for the silly little men they are? Believe me the rest of the world are laughing at us and our economic/political/social suicide.

God they are. They used racism, paranoia and lies to get the turkeys to vote for Christmas so they could feed off a deregulated society and get fat.

We sold off our fishing rights - we had much more, but we sold them voluntarily. Now we wonder why they aren't so keen on just giving them back when we say we are leaving.

randomer · 11/12/2020 21:00

Its not leavers who have changed the country, its that little slime Cameron who thought he was so damned clever.....he started the ball rolling. Add in disatisfaction and racism....bingo.

BJ is a total toe curling embarassment.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 11/12/2020 21:01

Brexit is what happens when you ask people who have no idea about economics to make an decision on a mainly economic matter whilst making them nostalgic for the great empirical days of yore. Oh and blue passports of course because that is the most important thing to come out of this.

Other countries won’t follow. You’re literally a cautionary tale.

chomalungma · 11/12/2020 21:01

@stepintotwitmas

We sold off our fishing rights - we had much more, but we sold them voluntarily. Now we wonder why they aren't so keen on just giving them back when we say we are leaving.
And now we are being told that fishing is important and we are an 'independent coastal state' - because they want to manipulate people again to reinforce 'fishing'

I won’t say what I think of the Brexiters who applied for Irish citizenship after the referendum.

I'll say it.

There is no hell hot enough.

Regular brexiteers who stole my rights at the same time they removed their own are bad enough and I will never forgive them. But brexiteers who stole my rights knowing they could keep those same rights for themselves and their children? No hell hot enough.
