I am past caring now.
I feel for people who didn't want Brexit. Who know all the implications and can see the issues that are coming.

But if you want No Deal Brexit and it fucks you up, tough shit.

You wanted it. You get it. You own it.

And pardon me if I don't give a shit anymore about you.

There was a lot of anger on behalf of the disadvantaged, actually. People didn’t blame the EU before they were whipped up to do so in 2016; they blamed the Tories and the Lib Dem’s. There was a hell of a lot of anger prior to the 2015 election. And then people, who hadn’t given the EU a second thought, suddenly began to repost all the anti EU, nationalist posts that Farage and his like were spewing.

chomalungma · 11/12/2020 21:12

How many were so full of anger on behalf of the many that voted Brexit because for so many years they struggled

Yes - and yet we still got a Conservative / Lib Dem Government who imposed austerity on people from 2008.

If you no longer like the direction the country is going in then pack up your bags and move to a country that meets your ideals. Over 150 to choose from, noone is forcing you to live in the UK.
People always trot this argument out. Leave voters literally made it harder to "pack up and move"

Is that a bit like 'fuck off back to where you came from'?

Yep, it must be a Brexiteer, folks.

thegcatsmother · 11/12/2020 21:13

@akerman

And no, it wasn’t only about trade in the 1970s. More lies. Here’s Ted Heath laying it out for the nation.
It doesn't mention the Acquis there; nor ever closer union. We work together with other nations in NATO for example, but NATO doesn't try to dictate our taxation; our environmental standards; how many hours we can work a week; or sanction us if we don't follow the rules.

For an ITO, the EU has taken remarkable powers unto itself.

Why didn’t you fuck off and live somewhere else if you were so bloody concerned about how badly the EU treated us? Or didn’t you care until some right-wing disaster capitalist told you what to do, and you merrily went ahead and did it, and will reap none of the rewards they will. Not even close. Unless you’re a racist and just wanted to live around people who look like you.
Ihatefish · 11/12/2020 21:13

@stepintotwitmas no I wouldn’t be happy for world war 3 to start, although such a statement is completely predictable. Are you suggesting though maybe without the EU in place Germany is going to have another go? Maybe shows your true feelings about other members of the EU!

frumpety · 11/12/2020 21:14

@XingMing

And what if no deal turns out well? Will you suddenly embrace it? I already know you think it won't be good.

Honestly ? Do you have a timescale for it turning out well ? days , weeks , months , years ? If on the 1st of January, absolutely everything is tickety boo, nobody in the UK is negatively impacted by no deal, then I would be astonished and very relieved. Smile

Simplyunacceptable · 11/12/2020 21:14

Totally agree.

TheKeatingFive · 11/12/2020 21:14

Erm, you can’t just up sticks, there are visas and things. Which leaving the EU has made much more difficult to obtain. So plenty of people are ‘forced’ to live in the UK, because they don’t have other options

Would that be a northern Brexiteer?

akerman · 11/12/2020 21:16

The EU didn’t dictate to us - we were a member of a body that made rules collectively, and indeed initiated a great many.

chomalungma · 11/12/2020 21:17

Russia also borders the EU. And Turkey.
Russia especially probably does a lot of trade with EU countries. They are not given any special treatment

Turkey is part of a Customs Union. I am not sure what rules that comes with to be part of that.

I think that if we want to have the advantages of being part of any special deal with the EU, then we have rules to follow.

If we want special treatment and want to give us advantages as well, then I can see why the EU would balk.

@Applesonthelawn couldn’t agree more. Not everybody has the same opinions and that makes up the very fabric of life.

Yes the government appears to have wasted a possible opportunity and buggered it up beyond belief but actually nobody knows how it will all turn out. No need to fill the country with more hate and resentment at the moment.

Ihatefish · 11/12/2020 21:18

“ . Unless you’re a racist and just wanted to live around people who look like you.“ most bizarre quote of the evening. Most Europeans look fairly similar tbh. Opening up the immigration opportunities to a level laying field. Surely offering priority to mainly white Europeans would indicate more of a preference to only wanting to be surrounded by people who look like you.

chomalungma · 11/12/2020 21:19

@nosswith

I voted Remain.

OP, it will often be the parts of the country where there were higher than average Leave voters that will have the greatest impacts. Though that is not the same as wanting No Deal.

This is what makes me really angry.

We have no say over the type of deal. Or No Deal.

The Government have a massive majority.
I hope they can look their constituents in the eye,

We do have a fairly shrewd idea of how it will turn out because the experts have been telling us. Watch Michael Dougan’s video from before the referendum. He’s been spot on. Or Ngaire Wood’s two-minute clip on the UK’s trading power if we left (she’s an Oxford professor who specialises in international trade). Turns out she was right too.

thegcatsmother · 11/12/2020 21:21

One of the main drivers for the EU was to avoid world war 3. It kept the members of the EU from fighting each other in war for the longest period ever in modern history. It has succeeded in ensuring peace among the countries who are members.

I think you'll find that NATO predates the ECSC, and it has been NATO that has kept the peace in Europe. Many NATO nations go on to become EU member states.

I would note that countries like Portugal, Spain and Greece were ruled by dictators like Franco, Salazar and in Greece, the junta of the Colonels.

Moonmelodies · 11/12/2020 21:23

To be fair people did have the opportunity to stop Brexit at the last Election (by voting LibDem just once), but overwhelmingly decided to proceed with it.

Ihatefish · 11/12/2020 21:23

@Dontevenstart fantastic debating skills there! You have to respect a well thought out argument such as the one you present. You have a bookshelf full of diversity books (unread)and post a lot on social media using a lot of hashtags don’t you? Bet you always make sure you have the stunt pineapple and avocado in😂.

thegcatsmother · 11/12/2020 21:25

Can anyone tell me how staying in would have worked out, given the changes coming in in inheritance rules, taxation and pensions for example? I note that TEU and TFEU have superseded Lisbon, but without any votes being taken on this by the EU populace.

TheWichitaWineOne · 11/12/2020 21:26

What kind of absolute fucking moron would LIKE the direction the country is going in?

Apart from Rees-Mogg and the Ultras, obviously, who will shortly shred workers' rights, environmental protections, food standards and Christ knows what else.

'Got your country back' though, didn't you?
