AIBU to get so annoyed when I've invested weeks/months in a thread with genuine concern for the poster only to go back for an update and the thread has been deleted?

What happened with the kid who was given sugar at nursery?
The mum to be who wanted to go to uni when baby was 2-3 weeks old?
The husband who was spending lots of time with a female co worker, working away?

When I'm reading a thread and offering advice I need to know the outcome 😂
I want to know if you left your husband, if your husbands crazy ex got arrested or what happened when you confronted your cheating partner 🤦🏼‍♀️

Don't tease me like this!!

OP posts:

I might be the one with the kid who was given sugar at nursery? My thread wasn't deleted though just not that interesting so it probably wasn't me haha.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/12/2020 17:28

What I have learned over my years on MN is that you should never get too invested in any thread. I respond to things but I don't get too involved and I never do that things where people are constantly asking the OP for updates. My mantra is 'it's not my life, I don't have to get involved'.

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 11/12/2020 17:37

I started a thread asking for an update and so committed the cardinal sin of creating a TAT. It was immediately reported by a trll hunter account and deleted. Grrrrr.

Wanting an update/closure is normal.

Does anyone remember what happened to the PP who lived in an isolated property but found an iPhone in her enclosed garden which couldn't belong to anyone in her house. Tbf, the original thread was there when I looked, but no update.

Stuff like this really lets MN down.

JackyFrost · 11/12/2020 17:43

I would love to know what happened to the poster called 8andwhooshtheyweregone*
and what happened to her and her family...

CounsellorTroi · 11/12/2020 17:48

I would have liked to know how the family war dispute about the lottery scratchcard win resolved itself.

ButtWormHole · 11/12/2020 17:55

Oh gosh yes! This frustrates me so much

I agree with not getting invested. I'm with @ApolloandDaphne.

RightOnTheEdge · 11/12/2020 17:58

I sometimes fall asleep reading a thread in bed and then when I wake up in the morning it's gone and I can't remember what it was 😆
That drives me mad!

jessstan1 · 11/12/2020 17:58

I've sometimes composed a careful response and when I've tried to post it, have found it has been deleted. That's just how it goes. It can be frustrating but I always think it was probably meant to be.

Never give advice unless you are qualified to do so. Offer suggestions maybe.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 11/12/2020 17:58

I genuinely can’t think of any thread I’ve wanted to know an update on really 🤔

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 11/12/2020 17:59

I miss muddy puddles.

unrealisticZ · 11/12/2020 18:00

I was so worried recently for the poster @mommyofanastasia
Her thread was take down and her baby had been taken by ss after an apparent medication reaction she had some good advice on there but it got taken down I hope she’s ok and has her baby back

2018SoFarSoGreat · 11/12/2020 18:02

I agree, it is very frustrating.

Meepmeeep · 11/12/2020 18:02

@PutThemInTheIronMaiden

I miss muddy puddles.
I thought that was all fabrication as she was also alphabet street woman?
Pinotwoman82 · 11/12/2020 18:02

Oh yes the iPhone in the garden one and the lottery card one

Yes this has happened to me too. But MN just say things like "we're checking behind the scenes". How can they even do that. Do they start phoning people up and asking them why they posted and if they're a troll? I know they can use IP addresses to find previously banned posters, but even so,, it always sounds a bit strange.
S111n20 · 11/12/2020 18:02

Oh yes so frustrating.

DishingOutDone · 11/12/2020 18:07

I think of 6 threads I've posted on in the last 7 days 3 have been removed. I'm one of the Thread Killers!!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 11/12/2020 18:08

It’s when people suddenly decide their thread is ‘identifying’ and manage to get it removed, even though it’s clearly just that they don’t like the responses, that annoys me. No details of where they live, their age; we don’t even know if they’re telling the truth about their gender... but yeah, it’s ‘identifying’.

UmmH · 11/12/2020 18:08

The one about the strange bush in the field and the husband with the 'identify this plant' app that wound up the neighbours. It made me laugh and laugh. I really wanted it to be in mumsnet classics.

DolphinsAndNemesis · 11/12/2020 18:10

Many of the threads that attract a lot of attention are started by trolls. Alas, trolls are very skillful at reeling in an audience and keeping them interested.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2020 18:14

AIBU to get so annoyed when I've invested weeks/months in a thread that's such a long time, I don't think I have ever been invested for months on a thread. A couple of days of interest tops.

AlternativePerspective · 11/12/2020 18:15

Checking behind the scenes is code for they think it’s likely a troll.

Sometimes I will post something innocuous on a thread just so that I can go back and see what the deletion message says if it gets deleted. I don’t troll hunt, I usually do report and will post something vague on the thread iyswim.

But I’m suspicious and I assume around 80% of emotional threads are trolls.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2020 18:19
