Resort manager has a point?

Just been absolutely roasted and kicked out of a FB group for my opinion on this.

AIBU to think the parent should have considered what resort she was booking? Their website is very clear.

For full disclaimer I have two ridiculously noisy children with additional needs, I specifically ensure our holiday resorts are suitable. I don't think its fair to subject a resort full of holidaymakers who have specifically chosen a quiet resort to them?

@DioneTheDiabolist If you cannot be quiet for whatever reason, this is not the resort for you. this is not the resort for anyone who believes in inclusion. If the “reason” you can’t keep quiet is your disability then it is disablist. How could it not be?

rainatnightlove · 09/12/2020 22:41

Oh my that sounds like my dream resort!Grin Nothing worse than screaming children on holiday, go to a kid centred resort for that thanks.

AcornAutumn · 09/12/2020 22:41

@Shoppingwithmother

I really want to go there, and I haven’t even looked where it is!
Ditto!
BigBadVoodooHat · 09/12/2020 22:43

@AddisonM

It is discrimination though. If the child in question suffers from a disability and this is a manifestation of that disability then it simply is discrimination to not allow them there 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s not to say that I disagree with their stance. But that’s the law surely.

A noisy person was not a suitable guest at a noise-free resort.

A child wouldn't be allowed in a child-free resort. I wouldn't be allowed on a specifically over-60s holiday.

Would those instances be classed as discrimination too?

AddisonM · 09/12/2020 22:43

I am really surprised so many people are ok with the managers response to this too. Unable to control her autistic child? That’s not ok. Is it?

@Redredwine2020 we specifically target our audience by being a very quiet and peaceful resort? the specific target is people who aren’t disabled in this way. There were clubs that used to target non-blacks, were they racist?

AddisonM · 09/12/2020 22:44

Sometimes these things can be “objectively justified”

And sometimes it’s simply a case of discrimination that no one has bothered to challenge.

HitthatroadJack · 09/12/2020 22:45

You have to be on another level of stupid and entitle to book an unsuitable resort like that one to make a point. What do you expect really? Even if you really don't care about other paid clients, YOU won't have a good time, your family won't have a good time.

What's the actual point of going?

5zeds · 09/12/2020 22:46

@BigBadVoodooHat if you weren’t allowed because of your race it would be racist, if for your sex sexist and if for your disability of course they a discriminatory.

I genuinely feel like I’ve gone insane reading this thread. This is not ok.

HitthatroadJack · 09/12/2020 22:49

You cannot seriously pretend that

non disabled children are generally quiet, on which planet do you live

but worst, that disabled children ARE non peaceful and not allowed to enjoy peace and quiet. You are talking shit.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/12/2020 22:50

It is not at all disablist @5zeds. DS has autism, loud piercing noises cause him physical pain and distress, so I tailor our holidays to suit him. I don't go somewhere unsuitable and then get arsey because the rules dont suit us.

Mycircusmymonkey · 09/12/2020 22:50

Am I the only one who thinks the original review was fake? I feel like it was written with the sole purpose of providing an opportunity to respond and to promote the peace and quiet policy. I dunno not quite ringing true to me

Levatrice · 09/12/2020 22:51

Oh dear

Resort manager has a point?
AdobeWanKenobi · 09/12/2020 22:52

Step Way from the Baileys bottle eh Pat?

NeutralJanet · 09/12/2020 22:52

Neither one comes across particularly well. The mother sounds like a passive aggressive, entitled person and the manager comes across like a pompous arse.

AddisonM · 09/12/2020 22:52

It’s not just disabled children though is it? It’s anyone disabled who happens to make loud noises as a result of their disability.

StatisticalSense · 09/12/2020 22:53

@5zeds
The problem with the argument that anywhere that doesn't allow people to make whatever noise they want discriminates against the disabled is that it fails to consider the needs of disabled people who cannot cope with people making such noises. Unfortunately in some cases the accommodations needed to make an activity (or location) accessible to those with certain disabilities make it inaccessible to those with other disabilities, and where this is the case there can be very little that the people in charge can do to make the activity universally suitable.

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/12/2020 22:53

No they specifically target people who are going to be quiet. I wouldn’t book it - I’m loud. Most families wouldn’t book it either.
They aren’t being discriminatory against disability - they have a policy of no noise.

Not my cup of tea - but I wouldn’t sign up for a week when Trappist monks either.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 09/12/2020 22:54

Well this hotel is not inclusive for all, definitely is discriminating against tbh a wide range of the population, you would have more fun in a convent.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/12/2020 22:54

It’s anyone disabled who happens to make loud noises as a result of their disability.
It's anyone, disabled or not, who happens to make loud noises regardless of the reason.

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/12/2020 22:55

@Mycircusmymonkey hmm good point. It’s written in a very aggravating way isn’t it.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 09/12/2020 22:55

I'm quite noise intolerant. I can't stand the racket a good many people seem constantly to emit, and I make every effort not to go around doing this myself. But the whole atmosphere of that resort sounds reminiscent of those deathly pauses in school assemblies: the ones where the kids stand in uncomfortable silence while the Headteacher's eyes scan up and down the rows trying to figure out who it was that farted.
