He threw my custard away

And now I can’t stop crying.

Exdh came to stay at mine for the weekend to look after dc’s. Not a long term solution but as he lived in a different city until CV situation dies down we both decided to do this rather than take dc’s on train to stay with him.

All day I have been looking forward to eating a syrup sponge that I got from Sainsbury’s with some custard that was in the cupboard. I warm up my syrup sponge but I can’t find the custard. I text exdh asking if he’d eaten my custard and he replied that he hadn’t but he threw it away as he noticed the BB date was the end of Dec and it looked like it had been in there a while.

Now I’m crying. I have PMT and I just wanted some fucking custard. I can’t leave dc’s at home to go and buy custard and anyway my syrup sponge is cold now. I actually hate him. I’m so glad I’m divorcing him, the absolute bastard.

That was very rude of him. I know the feeling when you’re looking forward to something and someone else gets there first! Seems small in isolation but can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back if you’ve had a hard day/are going through a tricky time.

imayhavelostmymarbles · 08/12/2020 19:26

Wait a minute. Its the 9th today. IT WASN'T EVEN OUT OF DATE!

SummerHouse · 08/12/2020 19:28

This would be my first LTB if that horse was not in southern France already. I am so sorry OP. What an interfering, useless twat. I flipping love steamed sponge. Stupid fool. Gosh I am more angry than I usually get over custard.

Seasidegrandma · 08/12/2020 19:29

Was in a tin/carton...get it out of the bin

timetest · 08/12/2020 19:30

I can see why he’s your ex. Steamed sponge without custard, not the same at all.

PicsInRed · 08/12/2020 19:32

Exactly.

He did it because he knew it was a little treat belonging to his exw and he wanted to take that away from her - with a little gaslighting that she keeps and eats gone off food. Nasty.

Well done on the divorce. Excellent choice.

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 19:33

I would immediately stop the visits to your house, he can’t be trusted.

How would he have even know the food was “almost out of date” if he wasn’t snooping through your fridge? If he wasn’t going to use it, there was no need to him to examine it. It wasn’t even out of date. He probably went through all your cupboards and drawers too, let’s be honest.

It’s just a power move by him.

Ask him what else he decided to tamper with without your consent and tell him that he’s not welcome any more.

pepsicolagirl · 08/12/2020 19:34

if it was unopened could you not just get it out of the bin?
(I'll see myself out)

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 19:34

Oh wait, it wasn’t even in the fridge! That makes it worse as he would have had to go out of his way to locate the custard in the cupboard. Wtf

HermioneKipper · 08/12/2020 19:36

Bastard! And not even out of date. He owes you some custard Angry Hmmm what revenge should you enact ...

flaviaritt · 08/12/2020 19:36

The lumbering little scavenger! He definitely ate it. Nobody goes through cupboards looking for food that’s past its sell-by date. They do go looking for custard.

Anordinarymum · 08/12/2020 19:37

'Custardgate' I would say LTB but looks like you already did OP :)

timeforanewstart · 08/12/2020 19:40

Dec this year or last year ?

They do if they’re a weird ex who’s trying to find “evidence” to use against you perhaps? The comment that it looked like it was there for a while is a bit suspect
RayOfSunshine2013 · 08/12/2020 19:42

YABU. Custard is vile

flaviaritt · 08/12/2020 19:51

Out of date custard? What’s that going to evidence?

AccountCreateUsername · 08/12/2020 19:51

Have you got eggs milk sugar and vanilla extract op? Or cocoa if you’d consider chocolate custard. If you can make some then the sponge can be reheated (if you haven’t had yet) alternately it’ll be delicious with a glass of milk / cuppa / wine

Anyway well done on getting rid of him and if also have no problem going through the OUTSIDE bins to retrieve it!

lockdownalli · 08/12/2020 19:52

Tell him to leave.

Now.

Arsehole.

NerrSnerr · 08/12/2020 19:53

That's a really helpful comment. Shockingly not everyone likes the same things. Who knew?

I really feel for you OP. I would really seriously consider whether this arrangement is working for you if he's going to be such a petty arsehole.

Rainbowx · 08/12/2020 19:55

Custard is vile! but he certainly shouldn't go through your cupboards nosey sod cant you get it out of bin it's in a box or tin....

june2007 · 08/12/2020 19:55

Seriusly it,s custard. He thought it was out of date. Tell him not to chuck away any of your food in future, not worth getting angry about.

rottiemum88 · 08/12/2020 19:55

If your custard was still in the cupboard (you thought), why had you already started heating the sponge?!

TeamLannister · 08/12/2020 19:56

Jesus, non stop crying is a bit much. Also, tinned custard is properly disgusting. If you have sugar, milk, cream, eggs & vanilla you could make lovely custard...

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 08/12/2020 19:56

Kill him. Cunt. No jury would convict you.

ILikeStrongTea · 08/12/2020 19:58

Some people are really missing the point here...
