more cock shots - yes or no?

After finally watching game of thrones, DP and I have found ourselves with a little disagreement that hopefully Mumsnetters can clear up...

During the series there were about 2-3 1 second cock shots and every time DP would say 'ooh a cock shot for you' (because if you haven’t seen it there are a million and one naked women shots) and no matter how many times I tell him 'I personally don't want to see penises flopping about on screen and I doubt many other women (and men) do either' he just wouldn't have it...

For me, if Jon Snow started whipping his cock out every two minutes I would find it really off putting lol

So I put it to you... would you (as a woman) like to see more cock shots on tv or would you find it off putting?

Vote: YABU for I LOVE COCKS AND WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF THEM ON TV

Or

YANBU for no, cock shots are off putting and I’d rather leave it to my imagination

They are ugly.

aLilNonnyMouse · 12/12/2020 23:08

I don't love cock shots, but I do think we need more of them. I remember being a teenager and being very curious about what bodies really looked like. The it images I could ever find were drawn diagrams in sex education books, or porn. I was way too young to be looking at porn (11-12) but did it because I wanted to know what men actually looked like.

I think fully naked men on TV the way we often see women is a good thing to help show teenagers what normal bodies do look like so they don't go off searching in the wrong places. It's why I really like the show naked attraction. It's just bodies on display with no real sexual element in it.

Quite a few videogames I've been playing lately have been adding in naked men as well as women - mostly in the form of statues around the game world and it's nice to see things becoming more equal in that way. If I'd had access to those things back when I was a teenager I never would have been looking up porn - and I saw some horrific things I really shouldn't have seen.

LittleMissSpendid · 13/12/2020 00:53

My opinion is...and it has been my opinion for at least four decades now...that I am absolutely sick to death of seeing tits, tits, and more tits on tv and films. For what, precisely? To give those saddos out there a little twitch in their trouser area? Pfftt!! Pathetic.

Notthe9oclocknewsathon · 13/12/2020 00:55

@VettiyaIruken

The penis is a million times less attractive than most men seem to think.

I don't know how they can look down at it and think hell yeah, just got to show this beauty off. Women need to see this magnificent beast.

Interesting. Good point.
grassisjeweled · 13/12/2020 01:05

Does anyone remember that cock close-up in the series Rome? Of some poor slave who had a massive widger?

So excessive

borntohula · 13/12/2020 01:07

Nah, I love penis but only my boyfriend's and mainly when I'm 'in the mood.'

Lofari · 13/12/2020 01:16

Never once have I seen a cock on telly and thought ooooooh look at that beauty.
Normally its more along the lines of 'bless your socks poppet, must have been a bit chilly when you filmed that ' 😉

Thewithesarehere · 13/12/2020 01:16

Been watching Ozark and no genitals in sight. Only incompetent, unimaginative ‘artists’ resort to showing genitals. Directors with real talent for story telling do not need to stoop to this, men or women.

GrimSisters · 13/12/2020 01:20

Just watched 'Industry' and recall a cock shot in that (in a posing in front of the mirror rather than a sex scene). I think the actors give them a quick smack around the back of the head to wake them up a wee bit though.

Boymumzy · 13/12/2020 01:21

I was originally going to say "No, we don't need more cock shots, penises aren't all that pretty." But then I kept reading and got to the part about Jon Snow whipping his cock out and now I'm a full supporter of gratuitous cock shots.

MLMsuperfan · 13/12/2020 01:24

It's the human body.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 13/12/2020 01:30

I must be odd as I don’t find them ugly at all.

Crustmasiscoming · 13/12/2020 01:50

I feel indifferent to most nudity I see on tv, but there are some tv shows that I will start to internally groan when we are "treated" to yet another unnecessary shot of tits, arse or cock. I don't have an issue with it as such, I just find it a bit lazy and obvious. If the show is so good then why do they feel the need to shoehorn in random nudity and sex? Are they worried that people won't watch it if it isn't mildly pornographic?

But yes, I do agree that it is usually the ladies who are naked. Perhaps their research has shown that men are more likely to watch if there are naked ladies, but women arent bothered about seeing naked men?

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 13/12/2020 01:51

Nah. I’d like to see less of people’s bits on screen and have more programmes with a decent plot

1forAll74 · 13/12/2020 02:03

Well if you ever tune into that Naked Attraction programme, there are lots of weird and funny cocks on show, and they also wiggle them about and touch them often. The men and their cocks are not a bit sexy, just very laughable and cringy.

berrygirlie · 13/12/2020 02:08

Mixed feelings!

I think it's super important to normalise realistic bodies and sex scenes or else the only sexual content & information that young people have is porn (or the rumour mill). But on the other hand, I don't want to see a penis if I'm eating my cereal Grin

CoalCraft · 13/12/2020 02:09

Have nothing against nudity (male or female) or sex on TV in principle as sometimes it is important to the overall presentation, but most of the time all that happens is the plot grinds to a halt to let us see some shagging. I get it, they had sex, now stop labouring the point and get on with the story! I suppose for some it's titillating but honestly nudity and sex are nothing special and if I wanted to look at them there's plenty of websites where I can do so now conveniently.

MLMsuperfan · 13/12/2020 02:15

"if Jon Snow started whipping his cock out every two minutes I would find it really off putting lol"

I might watch Newsnight more often tbh.

Wiredforsound · 13/12/2020 02:32

I have zero problem looking at cocks. If anything I’d rather look at them than feet.

Needhelp101 · 13/12/2020 02:37

There's a good documentary called Me and my Penis (yes, really) which I confess I started watching for the cock shots and then was considerably surprised to find myself bawling my eyes out as the different men's stories unfolded. Worth a watch.

StarlightLady · 13/12/2020 06:25

I’ve never seen “Thrones” but generally l am comfortable with nudity on TV of either gender. I don’t find the flacid penis attractive though, I just think it would be beneficial to show more bodies with wobbly bits and bumbs, in other words representative of real life.

CoalCraft · 13/12/2020 06:36

Judging by these comments I am unusual in not minding the sight of penis. Don't get me wrong, they're not getting me all hot and bothered when floppy, but they're not at all disgusting and a nice symmetrical, well proportioned one can be aesthetically pleasing.

I agree with a pp that naked bodies in non-sexual contexts should be more normalised. I know it's weird to say, but I'm quite glad my parents weren't prudish about covering up when I was small, so that at least I had a vague idea of what adult bodies looked like. Genuinely think the next adult penis I saw was in the Life of Brian! Really it isn't good that children should have such little knowledge of what their own species looks like, and safe, normalised exposure to nudity early on could forestall curiosity that might otherwise have kids making less-than-ideal internet searches.

That's a bit off-topic though as whenever penises are shown on TV/film, it almost always IS in a sexual context... Which is part of the problem.

berrygirlie · 13/12/2020 07:20

@CoalCraft
Life of Brian, the "opening the shutters" bit - I remember being quite Shock when I saw it (though I was also quite impressed by the amount of pubes Judith had even as a small child!)

Definitely think that normalising human bodies as things of their own right rather than solely vessels for sex is a healthy way of looking at it. Particularly in the realm of parenting, I think even though it sounds a bit odd and uncomfortable, it's good to not shy away from nudity (within acceptable boundaries of course).

Ethelfleda · 13/12/2020 07:36

YANBU OP
Give me a good steamy sex scene though... just don’t need to see any cocks.
