more cock shots - yes or no?

BigBaublesGalore · 08/12/2020 10:07

After finally watching game of thrones, DP and I have found ourselves with a little disagreement that hopefully Mumsnetters can clear up...

During the series there were about 2-3 1 second cock shots and every time DP would say 'ooh a cock shot for you' (because if you haven’t seen it there are a million and one naked women shots) and no matter how many times I tell him 'I personally don't want to see penises flopping about on screen and I doubt many other women (and men) do either' he just wouldn't have it...

For me, if Jon Snow started whipping his cock out every two minutes I would find it really off putting lol

So I put it to you... would you (as a woman) like to see more cock shots on tv or would you find it off putting?

Vote: YABU for I LOVE COCKS AND WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF THEM ON TV

Or

YANBU for no, cock shots are off putting and I’d rather leave it to my imagination

I’m clearly in the minority here but I quite like a bit of nudity in shows. I like to see a different penis now and then, you know, just to remind myself what other ones look like (married 17 years).

yetanothernamitynamechange · 08/12/2020 11:07

@BilboBercow

I would like to see more cocks in general
Really? I suggest setting up a tinder profile. You will be inundated.
Thripp · 08/12/2020 11:07

I'm perimenopausal and think about sex pretty much all the time (somewhat more than poor DP would like). So, yes, I'd be very happy to look at lots of cocks on TV. In fact, it might even make me buy a TV.

Isn't that what the internet is for?
Shinyletsbebadguys · 08/12/2020 11:07

Meh I don't really see he appeal in looking at cocks (I am heterosexual) I mean they are fun to play with but I wouldn't want to frame a picture and put it on the wall.

Although to be fair I don't have pictures of breasts either.

I am not interested in seeing them on TV. I don't mind nudity in general , if it's part of the story telling or character development then fair enough ,gratuitous is a bit annoying because I find it insults my intelligence a tad. I mean really , I have breasts and I live with a penis owner , showing me either isn't going to distract me from rubbish story telling.

themental · 08/12/2020 11:08

I'm feeling like an alien on this thread -- I kinda like the look of cocks 😂

There are good looking cocks and... not so good looking cocks, but I guess that's the same for every body part really?

I discovered Michael Stokes a wee while ago through work, and some of his stuff is pretty nice.

michaelstokes.net/collections/photos-for-sale

I'm also straight as a pin but I find woman's bodies really beautiful and a turn on. So it doesn't really offend me in TV shows. I wish it was more balanced though.

Also... anyone seen the poor unfortunate creature that swims around the ocean resembling a cock? Google Geoduck... after your breakfast 😂

FortunesFave · 08/12/2020 11:11

I like them. I seem to be in the minority though! I like seeing them on TV too!

praepondero · 08/12/2020 11:11

A random cock-shot is so pointless, naked mole-rat indeed. Even a random erect cock is not here nor there unless the person attached to it has a good body and a twinkle in his eyes. So corny I know but a guy must have something sexy about him to make his cock sing.
Whatever that 'sexy' is is irrelevant and different in every chap.
I have recently really taken to shaved heads and not as a biker-gang shaved, but a CFO type Blush.
Good shape of the head and strong features and that twinkle .... Swoons.

PirateCatQueen · 08/12/2020 11:12

Not a huge fan of sexualised nudity on the whole.

I think it can sometimes be used to to highlight vulnerability in a non-sexual setting. E.g. Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce in Outlaw King or Jason Siegel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

BigBaublesGalore · 08/12/2020 11:12

The amount of female nudity in it didn't really bother me aside from feeling sorry for the actresses that had to stand around naked for many a scene... the scenes with the dragon queen and her drogo fella became intolerable for me after a while though... it was just really over the top and pointless at one point, almost all their scenes were them two just having sex

I didn't read all the books but the first book reads like dani wanted to have sex for the first time with drogo however in the series it was portrayed more like he was going to rape her? I wonder if the sex/nudity for the rest of the series was a good representation of the books?

Themental that stuff looks really like it's meant to appeal to gay men. Doesn't do anything for me..it's a bit tacky. I like more realistic things.

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/12/2020 11:13

No. I do like muscular torsos though 🙈

MoChridhe · 08/12/2020 11:13

No thank you. I had to stop watching Industry on BBC after they showed a naked man's cock. I couldn't watch beyond that point.

I thought the same.

@Macncheeseballs

I hated the sex scenes in normal people, I felt really sorry for the actress
Why? She was fine with it. She paid tribute to the sensitive way it was handled.
DemolitionBarbie · 08/12/2020 11:15

YABU not because I particularly enjoy seeing them on TV but because I hate the male gaze thing of nudity only ever being nubile women.

GoodbyeRosie · 08/12/2020 11:18

The nudity in Game of Thrones was hilarious in the end, and I think maybe they were sending themselves up.

I remember one scene where Rob Stark does the sex in a tent with his betrothed , and I just thought ..why are they getting naked, why does she need to be fully nude? I know they are going to have sex, but do we really need to see it?

For some reason this has given me the image of a bus full of cocks wearing glasses, hats, different expressions, driving past, and the onlooker gazing on wistfully as they pass.

It might be time for my pills.

Branleuse · 08/12/2020 11:18

I think if they are going to show naked women, then its important its balanced with naked men. If the cocks make people uncomfortable then good

ApplesinmyPocket · 08/12/2020 11:20

'women are less visual'
I believe this is a myth dreamed up to justify the relentless implementing of the male gaze.

I don't think this is a myth. It's men who go mad for looking, peeping, are and have always been the market for strip shows, take crazy risks to see women naked, teen boys not teen girls who are desperate to see 'nudes', and in general it's men who (used to) buy monthly magazines with naked woman after naked woman on the pages. The one magazine that was produced with naked men in it, supposedly for women, a) sold mainly to gay men and b) didn't last long.

If anyone says 'I bought one' well so did I (for curiosity) and if anyone offers up the Chippendales as is so often done here to make out 'women love strip shows too' it's NOT a direct comparison, the atmosphere is very different - not a solitary, leering excitement, but more a bit of a laugh in company with other women.

Nothing wrong with men wanting to see naked women, unless they are doing it covertly and without consent. But I don't believe in general the reciprocal urge in women to see naked men is the same or as strong at all.

BigBaublesGalore · 08/12/2020 11:28

I totally agree with you and this is another thing dp can't accept... he thinks it's the same but it's just not! For women it's a laugh and about being a with other women... also men aren't constantly leered at by most women like women are by men whether they're shopping, taking the bin out or stripping in a show.... I don't know, it's just a different context

My comment about women not being as visually turned on was not that we are not turned on visually. When the penthouse For women (or was it playgirl) magazine aimed at women was launched it flopped (excuse the pun) yet we know soft porn magazines are still very popular even with instant access to what ever you want to view online

Many men are tuned on by genitals of an attractive stranger are as many women I don’t think they are

It doesn’t excuse mens behaviour

Sparklingbrook poor Rob Sad your husband sounds like a very caring man.

gettingfrustrated21 · 08/12/2020 11:36

YANBU. Don't want to see it thanks. And nor do I want to see a constant stream of womens boobs unless there is an actual reason for them being on display. Its just gratuitous, and basically for men. I mean, I think we're intelligent enough to gather the woman or man is having a shower when the scene cuts to running water a shower curtain and people in it. Do we really need to verify it by seeing full frontal nakedness.

Watched a cookery related programme the other day and they shot to 2 contestants relaxing afterwards getting into the hottub, in skimpy bikinis. OK so no bits actually on display (well a bit of arse), but just made me roll my eyes. I mean Obviously women in skimpy bikinis is an essential part of a cookery programme ffs.
