more cock shots - yes or no?

After finally watching game of thrones, DP and I have found ourselves with a little disagreement that hopefully Mumsnetters can clear up...

During the series there were about 2-3 1 second cock shots and every time DP would say 'ooh a cock shot for you' (because if you haven’t seen it there are a million and one naked women shots) and no matter how many times I tell him 'I personally don't want to see penises flopping about on screen and I doubt many other women (and men) do either' he just wouldn't have it...

For me, if Jon Snow started whipping his cock out every two minutes I would find it really off putting lol

So I put it to you... would you (as a woman) like to see more cock shots on tv or would you find it off putting?

Vote: YABU for I LOVE COCKS AND WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF THEM ON TV

Or

YANBU for no, cock shots are off putting and I’d rather leave it to my imagination

I agree that there definitely needs to be more of a balance of nudity between the sexes in TV and film.

When it's as normal for Brad Pitt and Leo Dicaprio to get naked on screen as it is for Kate Winslet or Demi Moore, then we will be getting somewhere.

Not that I particularly want to see any penises onscreen, but it seems as though for a female actor it's expected that they will have to get nude onscreen at least once in their career. Male actors don't have this same expectation.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 08/12/2020 10:43

Just put it all away, whatever your sex.

BigBaublesGalore · 08/12/2020 10:44

@ArabellaScott

'women are less visual'

I believe this is a myth dreamed up to justify the relentless implementing of the male gaze.

As far as I know, women are just as happy to look at men and men's bodies (and/or womens', if they are lesbian or bisexual).

Obviously, context matters. I don't want to see Jon Snow's cock (no offense, Jon).

Anyway, I have to say I was disappointed to click and not see some examples to illustrate your theory, OP. Diagrams, even, like in the parking threads?

I have just attached a diagram... you might need the app to see it though... here it is again 😉

@CountFosco

Yeah, happily never see nudity ever again. Perfectly possible to have a sexy scene without it, The Good Wife was excellent at it, the limitations made the directors more creative.

Loved Normal People but the actress had to do much more nudity and was much more vulnerable in the sex scenes than the main actor, particularly in some of Marianne's other relationships. I'm glad they had an intimacy co-ordinator but still wonder how possible it really is for a young actress to say no.

It annoyed me that the character that played Helen the one that played Jamie and also the Swedish boyfriend Lukas never got a mention about their sex scenes. Sad

Leaving aside the (totally valid) equality issue, imo you are totally right and your dp is wrong. I don't think it's so much that it's necessarily an 'emotional' thing for women. It's more that male nudity is not an automatic turn-on for women, even if it's a man/male character we are only attracted to for his looks.

Looks and personality (not necessarily a 'good' personality though) contribute to attraction. Seeing a penis does not. Jon Snow looks better with his clothes on imo.

Ramsey Bolton is a bad guy though and he’s just as attractive as Jon Snow!

Ugh! That rubbery, smirking, childish face. No thanks!

warmandtoasty2day · 08/12/2020 10:47

Cocks and balls are the ugliest things ever, they have their uses but they are still ugly and off putting to look at, urgh !

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2020 10:47

I don't think Mr D'arcy emerging from the lake naked would have been half as good as this.

Yeah definitely. I'm bi, and I like to look at attractive men and women, but there has to be something sexy about the way they are presented or shot. And to me there is nothing sexy about the "LOOK BOOBS" way that the male gaze often shoots them.

Of course women like to look too. I mean... the Athena baby poster? Shirtless posters in teen mags? CapAss?

Jaime Lannister became more attractive as the series went on... especially when he cut his backstreet boys curtains off

Yes, but not trouserless. I don't think anyone is saying attractive shirtless men aren't nice to look at. It's the other bits we aren't interested in being waved about.

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2020 10:52

Isn't it 'forearms' that everyone goes wild about?

missmouse101 · 08/12/2020 10:53

God no thanks. It's the hint of things that's attractive, like a peep of the man's upper thigh or whatever. No full frontal men or women please. No genitals on screen.

Sure, but that's different from saying that women aren't visual at all, or are at least significantly less visual than men, as a PP did. Preferring to see men with their pants on (a preference I mostly share) is still being visual, just having a visual preference.
OhMsBeliever · 08/12/2020 10:55

Ooh arms! Someone said arms! They are definitely my thing. Mmmmmm.

And thanks for the pic of America's Ass. More mmmmm.

But I don't want to see cock shots. As someone else said, I only like seeing it when I'm doing the sex with my OH.

Also, there is only one Jon Snow. And he presents Channel 4 news. And I don't want to see his cock either. Grin

YoniAndGuy · 08/12/2020 10:56

And just to be claer: no to cock shots. It's not sexy. It's a bit vom.

ArabellaScott · 08/12/2020 10:56

Cheers, BigBaubles. Here's one in exchange.

Yes I'd rather see a forearm than a cock personally... I don't mind seeing a bulge, a bit of chest, a pair of hairy legs etc Grin

YANBU but I agree with PPs that I'd like to see more balance in nudity between the genders. And tbh in most TV shows there could easily be less nudity as it often doesn't really add anything to the scene.

diddl · 08/12/2020 10:57

@MedusasBadHairDay

Honestly I would be quite happy not seeing another strangers genitals ever again, male or female.
I think that the thread could have stopped with this post!
cakewench · 08/12/2020 10:59

Cocks are the least attractive thing on a man really. I mean they have their uses but I'd be perfectly happy with a mostly naked man in a scene with a strategically placed pot plant. or whatever.

Nudity doesn't bother me but there's an imbalance, far too many extended jiggly boob shots while the men are in full armor or whatever.

lazylinguist · 08/12/2020 11:00

Sure, but that's different from saying that women aren't visual at all

Quite. I don't think that's true really. Maybe we are just more discerning- we want the looks and the personality (with no gratuitous penis shots)!

prowlingbrooms · 08/12/2020 11:02

Balance

None or (because of the principle) parity
And not just parity a range of teeny and big, hairy and not, ugly and pretty - the full range of normal
