After finally watching game of thrones, DP and I have found ourselves with a little disagreement that hopefully Mumsnetters can clear up...

During the series there were about 2-3 1 second cock shots and every time DP would say 'ooh a cock shot for you' (because if you haven’t seen it there are a million and one naked women shots) and no matter how many times I tell him 'I personally don't want to see penises flopping about on screen and I doubt many other women (and men) do either' he just wouldn't have it...

This is what I was trying to explain to my dp... for women it's more emotional and the only reason why we might want a sneak peak of Jon snows is because he's really a great character, attractive yes but if he was the bad guy and whipping his cock out every two minutes we wouldn't find him nearly as attractive... in my opinion anyway

I used to enjoy Filament magazine, which featured full-page male erect nudes. So I can't claim to be indifferent to cock shots. I also may have watched Shame largely to see Michael Fassbender naked. They have to be erect though - a flaccid cock is just not attractive, is it? - which is difficult in film and TV, and it also has to be attached to the right otherwise-attractive male.

For me it's more about the gaze of the camera though. I find the typical objectifying male gaze shooting such a turnoff. I couldn't watch Atomic Blonde because I found the camera gaze so porny. Whereas I found the female gaze shooting of Killing Eve quite a turn-on, because it focused far less on Eve's and Villanelle's bodies and far more on how they were feeling.

So no, I don't want gratuitous cock shots in GoT, because they're cheap and exploitative and objectifying and I already stopped watching the show precisely because of that.

Yeah, happily never see nudity ever again. Perfectly possible to have a sexy scene without it, The Good Wife was excellent at it, the limitations made the directors more creative.

Loved Normal People but the actress had to do much more nudity and was much more vulnerable in the sex scenes than the main actor, particularly in some of Marianne's other relationships. I'm glad they had an intimacy co-ordinator but still wonder how possible it really is for a young actress to say no.

there should be unity in the acting sense - if the female lead has to show boobs and muff, then the male should too. but i don't particuallry need to see it.

And it won't be impressive anyway as they can't show it IN AN IMPRESSED STATE (unless its an R18! movie)

As far as I know, women are just as happy to look at men and men's bodies (and/or womens', if they are lesbian or bisexual).

Honestly I'm so tired of full nudity/sex scenes being used when they don't add to the story. I don't care if it makes me sound prudish. If it doesn't add to the story and its just there to make the show seem edgier/grittier/more adult then that's just lazy.
