To think overtly sexy dressing looks very old fashioned?

E.g Claudia's style looks far more modern than Tess'. I love the way young women will wear flats or even trainers and be comfortable rather than dressing for men.

Also, if someone has a creepy foot fetish then flip flop are very sexy indeed because you are flaunting your toes. But why would you let that stop you wearing them?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/12/2020 12:11

Yeah, my dh never notices what I’m wearing!

Gwenhwyfar · 07/12/2020 12:13

"Every single thing that people wear gives a message. I could give so so many examples. It is NOT about being bitchy or nasty. It is a reflection of socioeconomic conditions and social class."

You only have to watch dramas or soap operas to see this. Every item of clothing tells you something about the person, drawing on that particular society's view of that item of clothing.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/12/2020 12:14

"I can run and walk normally in flip flops"

Really? Your foot it totally exposed. They're not practical at all except for the beach.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/12/2020 12:24

How has this descended into a bloody flip flop discussion?!

Yes, l can walk in them. And run I them. On the sand, because that’s is where they were designed to be worn. So they are not restrictive, they are designed to be worn under certain conditions and are worn by men and women.

It’s better than it was a few hours ago! Wasn’t there an actor who said they built their character from the feet up and the most crucial element was getting the shoes right?

humannamuh · 07/12/2020 12:32

But in a way, if you dress sexy then you are doing it for male attention. We are not always conscious of our behaviour.

If you're dressed in a very stereotypically sexy way, then you must be conscious of it though. There's nothing wrong with that - I just wish people wouldn't deny it. It's also true that codes can change and so be understood differently by different people. When animal print was in fashion wearers were probably giving different messages to the only given by Bet Lynch on Corrie, but people who don't follow fashion may not have been aware of that change.

My fault. Sorry! Grin

nevernotstruggling · 07/12/2020 12:48

Depends what you mean.I was watching an old episode of Top of the pops, it was 1990 something. All the audience looked to be having the time of their lives dancing around. Most of them had frizzy, permed , shortish hair. Wore hardly any make-up, wore baggy tops and low heels. Not a lip filler or hair extensions in sight. Compare that to today, it would be a sea of women standing around, unable to dance in their heels and shirt, low cut clothing. Probably not wanting to put a hair out of place and feeling too awkward in case they embarrassed themselves.

My god this is so true..

But what if I am dressing in the way I imagine a timetravelling librarian who solves crimes and is secretly a ninja would wear becaue this makes me happy, and someone else jut happens to find it sexy???
StCharlotte · 07/12/2020 13:20

Oh FFS if a presenter can't be glammed up for the glitziest programme on TV...

Sure, Claudia looks more edgy and "fashionable" but most of her outfits look like sequined bin bags and she hardly shuns the heels herself does she?

naughtyelfs · 07/12/2020 14:10

sequined bin bags

My wardrobe is full of these!

Changi · 07/12/2020 14:47

I expect the sequins are an attempt to hide the dandruff.

yetanothernamitynamechange · 07/12/2020 14:56

See, Im not sure but there must be some other option apart from "women who dress like Tess look silly/old fashioned/are trying to lure men" and "women who dress like Claudia look silly/as if they are wearing a bin bag". There must be a middle ground between x women are frumpy and y women are desperate hussies. I just cant think what it would be?

yetanothernamitynamechange · 07/12/2020 14:59

Maybe the only way to solve it would be to put Claudia and Tess in a ring and make them fight it out. Then we could do the same with Kate and Meghan, and then with all the women the daily mail would have us think are enemie. Because theres no way women could coexist together we are jut naturally bitchy.

Not the same as dressing sexy. That person would then have a paraphilia (maybe some other weird paras then too)

I know, but another poster was insisting pencil skirts, which frankly a time travelling librarian would definately wear, were considered sexy and designed to show the female form of to men. My arguement was there are a thousand and one other reasons someone would want to wear a pencil skirt.
yetanothernamitynamechange · 07/12/2020 16:09

And dont try to sexualise my own inner life/daydreams. They may be ridiculous but they dont involve sex perverts.

Stop worrying about what others are wearing and focus on yourself, what you want to wear and what makes you happy?

And definitely stop using yourself(general you here) and what you think as the standard to hold others to. It's very self absorbed and arrogant to think you have it right and everyone else is wrong ..be it desperate, frumpy, bin bags, hussies etc.

yetanothernamitynamechange · 07/12/2020 16:40

@AccidentallyOnPurpose I was being sarcastic? I personally think that Tess and Claudia look good and have their own style. While it doesnt personally affect me I hate the way defending one womans style seems to mean criticising anothers (and if people only posted on stuff that directly affects them this site would be tumbleweed). Its similar to the other thread where a husband told his wife he thought a celebrity looke beautiful and lot of posters started discussing why the celebrity wasnt beautiful/wore too much makeup rather than looking at the quite clear problem the OP had which was that her husband never complimented her. Its depressing

Must tell my gay female friends this. They must really be straight.

berrygirlie · 07/12/2020 16:48

Indeed, @WildWindBlows.

Also can't remember the last time my male partner put on a tight fitting suit and was described as "doing it for female attention".

yetanothernamitynamechange · 07/12/2020 16:50

@berrygirlie True. I will inform my boss who normally dresses very well in an expensive suite that he is coming across this way and should tone it down for fear of giving the wrong impression (I mean obviously I wont actually because I would get fired...) Smile

berrygirlie · 07/12/2020 16:53

You're right @yetanothernamitynamechange, he wouldn't want to be perceived as coming off as desperate! Wink
