I'm not a scientist, but...

I'm a bit concerned about the wheel. I'm not sure if I trust it. Also fire seems a bit dangerous. Grin

Science knows it doesn't know everything, otherwise it would stop. Just because science doesn't know everything doesn't mean you can fill in the gaps with whatever fairytale most appeals to you"

Did I do that? No, I did not.

Magpiecomplex · 05/12/2020 10:10

I'm a scientist. I'm only in it for the big explosions and the secret lair.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/12/2020 10:14

I'm not a scientist, but I swear vodka stops me getting colds.

@Cattenberg

I’m not a scientist, but I’ve watched a lot of videos on Facebook and there’s clearly a conspiracy going on. Most people just don’t realise, because they’ve been brainwashed.
I know. People are stupid. Some think we should read relevant articles on shit and use something called 'critical thinking' Confused why bother when I can watch vids on FB?

Science is just a concept invented to control us.

iklboo · 05/12/2020 10:18

I find this all unnecessarily snarky. We don’t have to believe what ‘science’ says. It’s not like there are never disputes, reversals and misunderstandings in science, is it?

I knew 5G was invented to remove people's sense of humour & irony! I mean, the opening post is about distrusting the wheel.

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 05/12/2020 10:18

I’m not a scientist but I have spent 25 years studying politics and the law. Following the science has led us to a place where our economy has been tremendously damaged, healthy children have been locked away for months, the vulnerable have been pushed closer or over the precipice, don’t get me started on education and safeguarding all in pursuit of a single goal. I’d politely suggest rather than dismissing me as stupid people also consider health economics where poverty has been shown to be the biggest cause of preventable death by a long way. Lockdown will only worsen this without incredible intervention that there is no appetite for. Next is Brexit. We have a very rough ride ahead.

I know. But really this is a vaccine/masks thread.

Thank you for strengthening my argument

You are relying on judgements made by scientists (who have reached consensus) every single day. But you appear to be quite unaware of this.

Ps I’m sorry your phone is riven with debate and contradiction. Time to upgrade?

DrBlackbird · 05/12/2020 10:20

Thank you OP for starting this thread. It's the only laugh I've had for days -weeks... months... 4 years

'I find this all unnecessarily snarky. We don’t have to believe what ‘science’ says. It’s not like there are never disputes, reversals and misunderstandings in science, is it?'

Yeah but, you know, from other scientists Xmas Smile

I am not even slightly unaware of it. You are just making stuff up. Bored?

baubling · 05/12/2020 10:23

I'm not a scientist and I disagree with all of you.
Grin

OneTC · 05/12/2020 10:23

I'm not a scientist but I'll pick and choose what some scientists say to support my world view

OneTC · 05/12/2020 10:23

Based on fuck all cos you know, I'm not a scientist

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/12/2020 10:25

I've definitely noticed that wheels are increasing. I don't know what they're made of or how they work, but the fact that we went from literally one, 5000 years ago, to, I don't know, 70 or more in a very short space of time, is concerning.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/12/2020 10:25

Just google it people...

Margotshypotheticaldog · 05/12/2020 10:26

I'm a scientist and so's my wife.

cardswapping · 05/12/2020 10:26

I am not a scientist but having watched Star Wars and Star Trek (ALL SERIES) I can help you with any anti-matter propulsion issues.

hedgehogger1 · 05/12/2020 10:27

I don't trust that dihydrogen monoxide. I've heard that everyone that dies has consumed it

Zilla1 · 05/12/2020 10:30

"Following the science has led us to a place where our economy has been tremendously damaged" am struggling to think of an occasion where the UK has followed the science rather than followed the business and/or politics then occasionally incorrectly used science to justify those decisions. Grateful for examples, Booksare

Hoppinggreen · 05/12/2020 10:34

I’m not a scientist but my Yoga teacher, Feather, seems to know his stuff so I would rather listen to him than these so called “Scientists” who are just in it for the money
On a completely different matter Feather says we can beat Covid with some special water he just happens to sell at £200 per bottle, which I think is totally worth it.

Scautish · 05/12/2020 10:34

Flaviaritt

I’m confused - do you trust scientists or not? Because in one post (09:35) you say we should all judge for ourselves as there’s no such thing as scientific consensus and then you go on to say that you’re very aware of how much you do rely on science (10:21)

Zilla1 · 05/12/2020 10:37

Hopping, mine doesn't 'sell' it but I'm allowed to make a £300 donation to cover costs and just a little left over for him and his life partner to travel the world to donate to the less advantaged because we're all one.

blacksax · 05/12/2020 10:37

I'm not a scientist, but at least I can spot a tongue-in-cheek thread when I see one.

Lalliella · 05/12/2020 10:38

@PurrBox

Without fire and the wheel we wouldn't have climate destruction.

If everyone had a brain like mine we would still be sleeping in caves-- Hell! we probably would never have figured out how to crawl out of the primordial slime.

We’d probably be a lot happier and less stressed. Bring back the slime!
