I'm a bit concerned about the wheel. I'm not sure if I trust it. Also fire seems a bit dangerous. Grin

I find this all unnecessarily snarky. We don’t have to believe what ‘science’ says. It’s not like there are never disputes, reversals and misunderstandings in science, is it?

Scautish · 05/12/2020 09:35

@hamstersarse

I am a scientist and I expect every minion to be completely unquestioning of every aspect of my works of genius
Here here. Scientists and their pier-reviewed research can make you ASD.

This minion knows better!

MAGA.

I’m not a scientist but I’ve heard terrible things about this weird stuff that the so-called water board (water boarding is a type of torture, COINCIDENCE?!) pipe into my house. If you inhale it you die! So I’ve cut the pipes outside the house to keep us all safe and we only ever drink Cola because the bubbles mean if you accidentally inhale it you can still breathe.

Wake up sheeple!

MrsKJones · 05/12/2020 09:37

I'm not a scientist, but I am a woman, so therefore I know everything. Ask away!!

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 05/12/2020 09:39

You're all a bunch of sheeples!

Do your research!

Just because a scientist says something, it does not make it true.

But if a large study has been carried out, built on years of research, previous knowledge, and is peer reviewed, and carried out by a scientist who is known by their peers as an expert in their field, then that's worth paying attention to.

Science can be flawed. Studies can be small, and only applicable to certain groups. There can be bias.

But there can also be evidence based truth.

The dangers of this are very well known - look up the "ban dihydrogren monoxide" campaign. Did you know that every single person who has ever died has consumed dihydrogen monoxide?!?!?!??!?!

Back in minute - just off to start a government petition about it...

flaviaritt · 05/12/2020 09:42

I agree. Some people are deeply irrational. But that includes people whose belief in ‘science’ is uncritical and automatic.

tabulahrasa · 05/12/2020 09:42

“Exactly! My 'alarm' has a microchip in it. You know what microchips are for? So Bill Gates can monitor us - I bet he's watching me type this!”

They wanted me to microchip my pets... Hmm I’m not having bill gates spying on my pets!!!

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 05/12/2020 09:45

@PowerslidePanda I knew it! It’s also true that all drug addicts start with water. Evidence!

It’s worse than that @tabulahrasa they get your pets to spy on you and report back. If you’re not careful they can end up cyborg assassins, and they’re a nightmare to walk on a lead.

Are you prepared to admit that “science” Is allowing you to type onto your phone/computer from wherever you are in the world and allow your opinions to be read by thousands of strangers somewhere else in the world on a device that is significantly more powerful than computers that took humans to the moon?

Do you believe in that “science”? Because it’s pretty fucking scary if you don’t comprehend even just a tiny bit the number of huge scientific discoveries that have gone into allowing you to do so. It’s not “science”. It’s science.

Jesus, the levels of scientific illiteracy are terrifying.

SpamIAm · 05/12/2020 09:48

I actually am a scientist so you should all place more value on what I say about the vaccines, disease transmission, immunology etc etc.

I'm also a health care professional, so I get double bonus points.

The area of science in which I specialise and the nature of my role in the NHS, and the extent to which they have anything to do with such matters is irrelevant.

flaviaritt · 05/12/2020 09:48

Scautish

What a bizarre outburst. I simply pointed out that people have to use their own judgement because there is no such thing as an entirely cohesive ‘science’ to draw upon. Science is riven by debate and contradiction like everything else.

What about that makes you think I think my phone is fictional?

😂

Was it Dyson who invented the mood hoover?

Sorry: didn’t mean to put you all off your vim and vinegar.

pinkearedcow · 05/12/2020 09:57

I am a bit concerned about penicillin. I mean, I kow it's a game changer and all that, but it's mould. Grim.

TheorangePOTUS · 05/12/2020 09:57

I’m not a scientist. But is there any way we can inject disinfection as a treatment?

pinkearedcow · 05/12/2020 09:57

know

KenDodd · 05/12/2020 09:58

I'm not a scientist but keep myself very well informed through Facebook and therefore my opinion has equal weight to any scientist or expert in any other field (I'm very knowledgeable about all things, really, AMA Smile )

Sargass0 · 05/12/2020 09:59

@flaviaritt

Sorry: didn’t mean to put you all off your vim and vinegar.

Now that IS dangerous science.

ODFOx · 05/12/2020 10:04

Well I AM a scientist but I don't trust brooms or dusters, as the state of my house will testify.

Fire though? You'd be mad to trust fire...sneaky creeping thing.

I'm sorry, but if you don't endlessly watch crackpot youtubes you are NOT an expert.

"Science knows it doesn't know everything, otherwise it would stop. Just because science doesn't know everything doesn't mean you can fill in the gaps with whatever fairytale most appeals to you".
