Apparently 'it's an lady coat and doesn't suit you'
' I had to say something because it's not doing you any favours'

Why am I upset? It's just a coat, but I've taken it personally. I feel he's insulted me

Probably because I thought it looked nice on and I thought I lioked good in it and I've worn it a lot in recent weeks.
Now I find out it looks horrible on me and makes .me look old?
Wtf?

I'm prepared to be told I'm being ridiculous.

@bluebell34567

that was a very good marketing.
Not unless it translates into sales, which seems kind of unlikely given the comments.
bluebell34567 · 03/12/2020 22:31

it may translate into sales Smile.

Londontown12 · 03/12/2020 22:31

I actually love that coat and a few years ago I had one very similar from Topshop and it was dark green ! Both my hubbi and daughter called it a pube hair coat 😂😂😂
I took no notice cus I love it and other people. Used to ask me where I got it !
So if u love it wear it ❤️

Twiddlet · 03/12/2020 23:02

I have one coat that makes me look like Arsenal Wenger and 4 sizes bigger. I couldn’t give a shit if it’s frumpy because I like how warm it is.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 03/12/2020 23:05

Boucle has a similar texture to a teddy coat though. To me they both look like they’ve been worn too many times already and it shows 😬

MrsClatterbuck · 03/12/2020 23:28

Last year I bought a fashion rain jacket. It's pink and it's that sort of rubbery material which repels rain. Dh calls it my condom coatBlush. I still wear it. Years ago in the seventies when ponchos were a thing I bought one. It was rectangular shaped and a bit blanket like. Well I wore it to school and some boys thought it was amusing to whistle a Fistful of Dollars when I walked past.

TatianaBis · 03/12/2020 23:32

I can see his point tbf.

I’d take him up on his offer of a new one.

eaglejulesk · 04/12/2020 03:55

The day I get upset because a man doesn't like something I wear I will know I've lost the plot!! What decade are some of you living in?

diddl · 04/12/2020 08:07

It's all subjective, isn't it?

Some like the coat, some will probably think the Op looks great, others that it's just OK.

If you like it Op, don't be put off.

I doubt that anyone is gasping in horror.

Well, so what, if they were?

It's clothes-we all wear them!

diddl · 04/12/2020 08:11

" It's pink and it's that sort of rubbery which repels rain."

I've recently bought one from Aldi.

Been after one for years-love it!

Only one I've seen that I could afford!

Topseyt · 04/12/2020 10:02

I do quite like that coat, though I hate green so I would have to have it in dark blue.

If you like it wear it.

If you do take him up on his offer to buy you another then make sure you are the one choosing it. He can be there to supply the money.

I personally wouldn't want anyone else choosing clothes for me, not even coats. DH knows better than to comment. I don't comment on his choices either.

Sounds to me as if he is not exactly a fashion expert. Oversized coats are in.
Janegrey333 · 04/12/2020 10:32

@unlikelytobe

Men often don't get female fashion, let's face it.
They hardly get male fashion, come to that.

@randomer

Whats with all this nana stuff?
I know. Adult women describing their grandmother as a “nana” and suggesting she had one / would wear it. The comments are apparently to show how much they don’t rate the coat. Charming.
Janegrey333 · 04/12/2020 10:46

Bouclé is a lovely fabric.

Smallsteps88 · 04/12/2020 10:48

Your ignorance (or snobbery- you choose) is showing.

and suggesting she had one / would wear it.

Mine has one very like it. Not sure why you don’t want to believe that is true. Bit odd really.

The comments are apparently to show how much they don’t rate the coat. Charming.

My comment saying it looked old lady was to show how much I don’t rate the coat. My comment about my Nana having a similar one was to show that my Nana has a similar one.

Charm doesn’t come into it. Just like your post.

Janegrey333 · 04/12/2020 10:56

The “my nana” comments. closely followed by this emoji Grin, is designed to make the OP feel worse. Charming behaviour, indeed.

Ozgirl75 · 04/12/2020 11:03

I came home from the hairdressers with what I thought was a sleek bob and my son (6 at the time) said I looked like “a lovely mushroom”.

On another occasion I went to an 80s night with my hair done in a crimper, loads of blue eyeshadow and frosted pink lipstick (and I don’t normally wear much in the way of make up at all) and my two sons were beside themselves with how “pretty you look mummy, just like Katy Perry”.

The moral of my story is, you cannot trust men with fashion.

Smallsteps88 · 04/12/2020 11:08

Again, nope. The Grin is because it’s funny that OP suggested her coat was an old lady coat and I (and others) can confirm that the oldest lady in my life does indeed have a very similar coat. Nothing at all to do with making OP feel bad.

No response to the rest of my post? Your ignorance on the use of Nana? No?

VinylDetective · 04/12/2020 11:13

Lovely ageism on this thread. My granny was the most stylish woman I’ve ever met, to be compared with her would be the ultimate compliment.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/12/2020 11:27

By the sounds of things his mouth does him far fewer favors than your coat does for you.

He doesn't have to like it he's not wearing it.

HipHipHooray7 · 04/12/2020 11:30

I have a coat like that, I love it but my husband hates it and says it looks like my gran's housecoat. It has been an ongoing joke and now we just laugh about it which makes me want to wear it more!

Graciebobcat · 04/12/2020 11:36

Where is the coat pic please? Can't see it in OP's posts.

Neoprene maybe!
