Apparently 'it's an lady coat and doesn't suit you'
' I had to say something because it's not doing you any favours'

Why am I upset? It's just a coat, but I've taken it personally. I feel he's insulted me

Probably because I thought it looked nice on and I thought I lioked good in it and I've worn it a lot in recent weeks.
Now I find out it looks horrible on me and makes .me look old?
Wtf?

I'm prepared to be told I'm being ridiculous.

Surely if you like it that is all that matters Confused

BabyItsAWildWorld · 03/12/2020 18:24

I think a lot of fashion is a bit old lady at the moment.

My DH can't get his head around my new love of high necked midi dresses. He thinks I either look old lady or Amish.

I ignore him, as I know I look well cool and he'll get used to it.

Boucle is a bit old lady, that's why it's cool.
You need to wear it with skinnies and chunky boots and tell your DH he knows nothing.

Kissthepastrychef · 03/12/2020 18:24

I think maybe you should just be grateful your DH has been man enough to tell you it is less than flattering and save you even more outings in it.
Fwiw I think it's a ghastly coat reminiscent of old ladies in jumble sales. I think he's done you a favour.
The only people that can get away with something like that are the very young, thin and beautiful. Because they can pretty much wear anything.

Smallsteps88 · 03/12/2020 18:25

@Doingitaloneandproud

I also meant to say that's only because my Nan has a boucle coat similar and she's 90 so that maybe clouding my opinion Blush
Yep- my nana (92) has one very similar to the one linked Grin
ShinyMe · 03/12/2020 18:26

If it keeps you warm and dry then why does it matter if it isn't especially flattering?

vanillandhoney · 03/12/2020 18:26

In my eyes, wool coats are what my mother would wear - sorry!

It does depend on how you style it though, I guess.

stschiap · 03/12/2020 18:26

Do you like it?
Is it warm?

FrancoBranco · 03/12/2020 18:27

I like the coat. Unless your husband is some kind of cutting edge style icon then just ignore him.

That coat has been viewed 1611 times in the past hour... 😂

Howcanwehelp · 03/12/2020 18:28

I bought a three quarter length karki military style coat with eppulettes. I loved or, thought I looked tres chic. My husband asked me if I had joined the German army during WW1. Luckily I ignored him :-)

WorraLiberty · 03/12/2020 18:29

I like the coat on the model but they don't suit everyone.

The main thing is that you like it OP.

notanothertakeaway · 03/12/2020 18:30

Everyone should wear what they want

I often see people wearing clothes I don't particularly like. I keep my views to myself. The world would be very dull if everyone wore clothes that I like!

I think your DH was rude to express a view, unless you asked for his opinion, in which case YABU to complain that you asked his view but didn't like it

MrsWooster · 03/12/2020 18:30

Over 1800 times! You listening, @mnhq?!?!

PragmaticPrinciple · 03/12/2020 18:32

I like the coat linked!

Better than the sleeping bag coat anyway!

Is he the Gok Wan of women's fashion? If not, smile and nod.

ShoesJerry · 03/12/2020 18:33

I have a similar coat in a berry colour from M&S a couple of years back. It's in their "Classic" range which I always translate as "old lady", but I've always had compliments wearing it.

JacobMarley · 03/12/2020 18:33

I like it. My dd (20) has a very similar coat so does her friends. It’s probably the only item of clothing she has chosen that I haven’t turned my nose up at. Mind you I am an “older lady” but dd isn’t.

If you like it wear it OP.

texelgirl · 03/12/2020 18:34

It looks lovely

ApolloandDaphne · 03/12/2020 18:34

My DD would be thrilled to be told she was wearing an old lady coat. At the age of 28 she aspires to 'old lady' chic (whatever that may be!).

Mitsouko67 · 03/12/2020 18:35

YANBU

That wasn't kind.

Hayeahnobut · 03/12/2020 18:36

Reminds me of the councillor lady in Call the Midwife. Who is very attractive as an older lady, but probably not the look you're going for?

VinylDetective · 03/12/2020 18:37

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s a classic wool coat. It’ll never be in or out of fashion. It’s a lot nicer than those bloody parkas with artificial fur that every woman and her dog are wearing now.

Hayeahnobut · 03/12/2020 18:38

More Chanel than Clapham!

Hiddennameforever · 03/12/2020 18:39

The coat is gorgeous. I love the colour and the shape.
Definitely not ,,old lady coat,,.

FatCatThinCat · 03/12/2020 18:39

I had a coat that I wasn't hugely fond of. Long term boyfriend at the time told me he hated it and it didn't suit me. I wore it all the time after that, even after he bought me a really expensive coat more to his taste. Don't let any man drag you down.

riotlady · 03/12/2020 18:40

Did you ask for his opinion?

Yesterday my partner told me my jumper made me look like “a “trendy” mum taking her daughter to an Adele concert in 2006” which is hilariously catty coming from someone who lives in ripped jeans and 5 year old t shirts. Anyway, I like it and I’m keeping it! (It’s a gold oversized thing from Next)

Hayeahnobut · 03/12/2020 18:41

it’s a classic wool coat.

It's 100% polyester!
