Can't stand people referring to others as a 'Karen'

I'm fed up with seeing it, I really have. it's gone way too far now. I have a friend who is ashamed of her name and won't post on any public forum because of the stick she gets. Constantly seeing stupid memes.

You may think I'm being too serious but I think it's so derogatory to people who have that name.

Oh Robin DiAngelo? And her seminars to teach people how NOT to be racist with places costing between $1000 and $6000 depending on the level you want to learn how NOT to be a racist at. Lots of $$$ flying into white woman Robin's pocket that's for sure. That book is being discredited all over and when I see it recommended I know that I no longer need to take that person or their views seriously.

It's very interesting that this is what really has annoyed white women the most. Not the actions of so-called Karens - the actions that threaten to get minorities either fired or killed. Nope it wasn't that. It was being literally labelled Karens. As if it's the biggest issue facing feminism in current times. It's not that surprising tbh but if you're gonna get worked up about Karen might as well add e.g Sally from HR, Becky etc etc.

@Meraas Because I'd never heard of it until very recently. The only context I've seen the Shaniqua thing used in is like in this thread, when someone discusses the Karen thing, and someone comes along and says but what about the Shaniqua thing? What Shaniqua thing? I've never heard it being used as an insult or in any other context.

It's not a white woman's issue - it's about women of a certain age being shut down. I suppose you could say that it is an Anglo-US-American issue as Karen is a name given to women in their 40s in those countries (maybe it's used in European countries too, I don't know but I expect some MNers overseas can let us know).

It is also very boring, lazy and unnecessary. As I say, if you think someone is being racist or rude, then call the behaviour racist and rude. Don't have a go at every woman in the 45+ age group who has the name Karen.

Actually, this thread is full of some women telling other women (the latter of whom see no issue with the word Karen) to "STFU", "fuck off", calling them stupid, dim, etc. Seems like "no name calling" only applies when defending white, middle-class women.

Being more outraged by the word Karen than Karen-like behaviour (racism, classism, entitlement, arrogance) is probably the most Karen thing I've ever seen.

Bullshit. The very first result on Google is about the stereotypes of Shaniqua and the rest of the results page is full of it. And yet MNers have never heard of it because just like racism, they never see it

I've just Googled. The only derogatory thing on the first page is the Urban Dictionary. Everything else is pages about baby names a few people's Twitter accounts. Google results aren't universal. They vary depending on your past searches. But anyway, I'd never heard of it until a few months ago.

I can't find anything later than 2015. Seems it was a meme in 2012, eight years ago. I'd never heard of it and I've never heard Mary Sue either.
