Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

What happened in 1981?

Benjispruce2 · 29/11/2020 21:28

It was cool and different at the time. Like most things watched out of context, they’re never quite the same. I read the book first so watched it to see how it matched .

Benjispruce2 · 29/11/2020 21:29

Charles and Di I guess.

Dilemmmmma · 29/11/2020 21:31

I used to get annoyed with her wearing an underwired bra in bed!

I do that. My underwriter bras are really comfy!

Dilemmmmma · 29/11/2020 21:31

*underwire

Amira19 · 29/11/2020 21:32

I think carrie is SJP personality in RL. She was vile to Kim Catterall.

katy1213 · 29/11/2020 21:33

They were always eating - and she couldn't hold her knife and fork properly. Big must have been properly embarrassed.

Nomoreboobs · 29/11/2020 21:33

Aww I loved it back in the day, I can hear the music to the opening of the show, watching it on my little tv in my bedroom, late teens/early 20’s maybe 🤔 I had the video box set too 😂I don’t want to ruin it by watching again!
Carrie was self centred but she was a writer wasn’t she and it was all very angsty, superficial ‘Problems’ really, but that was interesting to me at the age I was, probably not so much now!

Pippin2028 · 29/11/2020 21:35

SATC is available on NOWTV, even as a teen in the 00s, me and my friends would always comment on how self centred Carrie was and we couldn't get over how much time she wasted on Big. They deserved each other in the end.

KodakNancyEurope · 29/11/2020 21:36

@Labralion

I've just rewatched the whole thing and I still love it. They're all terrible in their own ways. Carrie is a narcissist but you know what I thought aren't we all a bit like Carrie? I don't mind being a bit of a dick, as long as I'm the the main character.
Literally couldn’t agree more Grin
Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 21:37

Agree with all the PP who said that Big wasn't really that into her. Until he had a heart attack

Noshowlomo · 29/11/2020 21:37

I used to LOVE her but watching it now I think what a dick. Aidan was so lovely and perfect and she didn’t stop fucking him over. She’s a knob!

Nousernamesleftatall · 29/11/2020 21:44

Kim C said the reason she wouldn’t make a third movie was that she was fed up with SJP always trying to humiliate her - constant reference to her age, the chemical peel, menopause and all those sex scenes. I can’t watch the movies in the same way now.

justasking111 · 29/11/2020 21:45

Loved the programme but loathed Carrie character, so self obsessed.

DressingGownofDoom · 29/11/2020 21:46

Surely SJP didn't write all those storylines in, she wasn't a writer was she?
Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 21:47

I think SJP was one of the Executive Producers, wasn't she?

@flaviaritt I wish I had a pot. I would wear a top two sizes too small

Piss off

MarshaBradyo · 29/11/2020 21:48

Yep

DressingGownofDoom · 29/11/2020 21:48

Do you know what Carrie moment I did like. When they went to LA and Matthew McConaughey was getting really into discussing the characters. 'You be Carrie' 'I am Carrie!' So funny Grin

Horehound · 29/11/2020 21:49

I only managed a few episodes back in the day but I just hated Carrie.
I'm surprised it went on for so long and people are only realising how terrible she is now!

HmmSureJan · 29/11/2020 21:49

@PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe

I appreciate the accepted revisionist view is that SATC was a pile of shit, but I still really enjoyed it. I thought SJP did a pretty good job of making a fundamentally unlikeable character, quite sympathetic. She was vile in that episode, though.
I loved it then and still do. I just binge watched this weekend actually for the first time in ages. It's funny how the liking for the different characters changes over time. Charlotte was always my favourite but on the rewatch being much older I preferred Samantha, she was so funny. I know they're none of them that nice but most people aren't ime. The ones we love are still full of flaws but connect with us somehow so we will overlook the flaws. I think that's portrayed very well in this show.
Menmy3 · 29/11/2020 21:52

What’s cf x x x

Oly4 · 29/11/2020 21:54

This is making me want to watch it all over again

Eaumyword · 29/11/2020 21:54

I loved it then, do still love it now, but I an seeing it through different eyes on this umpteenth boxset watch.
I just rewatched the episode where Carrie goes over to Big's, he's watching the boxing and she crawls all over him! They are due to go on holiday and like a pp said, is utterly needy and then refuses to go. She's like a masterclass in how to scare a bloke away, always pushing for declarations of love and commitment too early!

Clockstop · 29/11/2020 21:57

It was the bit when she screamed at the squirrel in Aiden's lovely cabin that made me think she truely was an utter knob.
