Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

641 replies

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

@PutThemInTheIronMaiden OMG I forgot about that! I love that Natasha gave her short shrift.

Can we also take a moment to talk about what a total cock end Charlotte was?

The second movie, when she doesn't work but goes into a cupboard to cry because her kids get chocolate on her white designer skirt (who the fuck bakes in a white designer skirt). But it's ok because the nanny comes to the rescue Hmm

This is an interesting article with a timeline of the "feud". It seemed to be mostly about money. Personally find it interesting that SJP has never said a bad word about KC or anyone else involved in SATC.

Because she's not daft - when LC'a brother died she called out SJP for her faux Tweet concern tweet about it. KC is amazing and I'm pleased she expose SJP for that.

Having said that, I thought their on screen chemistry was fantastic, you'd never have thought there was a feud

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 29/11/2020 22:42

I always wonder if the writers let KC have the line "I'm gonna miss you, you cunt".

Candleabra · 29/11/2020 22:43

@LaBarbera

Remember when Carrie got the WRONG SHAPE of diamond engagement ring and actually vomited from distress?
Oh yeah, that was amazing! Also when she came out in hives from a bad wedding dress. Dramatic much?!
GlummyMcGlummerson · 29/11/2020 22:45

Ooh, ooh I have another!

When her boyfriend wrote an actual book and she said "it's good but no one wears scrunchies" and kept banging on about it. What a turd

HmmSureJan · 29/11/2020 22:46

Well they both denied it consistently throughout, they all did. Tbh I think the IG post from KC lacked dignity, it would have been better to just ignore the message from SJP entirely. I'm not sure what to believe tbh. I think as ever, there's two sides and then there's the truth 🤷🏼‍♀️

SebastianTheCrab · 29/11/2020 22:47

@LadyTiredWinterBottom2

I think she had a significant influence on the writing. There was talk of a prequel but apparently she wouldn't want someone else to play Carrie.

More recently SJP has said she found playing her quite difficult at times. I call BS.

I thought Kim Catrall simply didn't want her couch hanging out on screen when she was pushing 60 so called time on it. And said SJP was horrible to her because she stole the show.

There was a prequel! The actress who played her was Anna Sophia Robb. I think it lasted one season and was by the guy who created Gossip Girl. It just wasn't very good though.

Does anyone remember the episode where she was in a boyfriend's apartment after the first time they sleep together and she tears it apart trying to find something incriminating? Dreadful!

minipilling · 29/11/2020 22:50

She goes nuts over the otherwise perfect and gorgeous politician John Slattery because he has a pee fetish - obviously they're not sexually compatible so they break up, which is fine but she then gets Revenge for it by outing his fetish to the papers! Petty cow.

ChickensForTheHound · 29/11/2020 22:52

@Nikhedonia

I read an interview with SJP once where someone mentioned something about Carries bad traits or selfish side and SJP seemed really offended and stunned that people thought that about Carrie lol

This does not surprise me. I think she and Carrie might be quite similar. Which is why I found the scene with Matthew McCanughey (sp?) so funny.

I think I saw her on Jonathan Ross or similar years ago where he pointed out how awful Carrie was and she was very put out and surprised.

@HmmSureJan

To me the article just reads like KC was ‘pulling rank’ for years and finally got sick of it. SJP is more invested in the brand. I do believe that to a certain extent she was bullied.

I know but KC's brother had just died in horrible circumstances and grief rarely brings out the best in anyone's

She kind of confirms on her Piers Morgan life stories interview that she wasn't happy for a long time, only did the movies for the money and will never, ever do a third movie

TheNanny23 · 29/11/2020 22:55

Although Charlotte was shiny and ridiculous she had personal growth- her, Samantha and Miranda all did ( although of course the 2nd film swiftly erased 15 years of character development).

Carrie never grew up, never evolved, and was no different to the start. Mr Big just realised he was over the hill and decided to settle for his fan girl.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 29/11/2020 22:57

Yes yes yes @TheNanny23 spot on!

I loved Miranda and when she moved to Brooklyn for her family and took care of her sick MIL, was glorious TV. When her housekeeper told her "you love" I actually cried.

DianaT1969 · 29/11/2020 22:57

The only selfless moment I can remember of Carrie, is on New Year's Eve when Miranda is lonely and Carrie goes to the wrong part of town in unsuitable clothes in the snow to be with her.

lollipoprainbow · 29/11/2020 22:58

Her hideous wedding dress too with that awful bird thing attached to the veil ! I could never understand how all these attractive men fell for her.

KC pulling rank for years...Do you mean SJP?

@ChickensForTheHound - I was just about to say the same thing. Ross said something like 'Yeah, but Carrie's a neurotic NIGHTMARE, isn't she, haha!' and SJP reacted like she'd been personally insulted. She really didn't seem to see what everyone else did... which does make you wonder how much of Carrie was actually her own personality.

mumduty · 29/11/2020 23:01

I'm going to rewatch it now as I've run out of things to watch, I just googled it to see where it's available and it's on prime.

TheNanny23 · 29/11/2020 23:01

@Nikhedonia

Yes sorry I put that the wrong way- as in KC was towing the line for years and keeping it to herself and finally got fed up.

EachandEveryone · 29/11/2020 23:04

I never liked Carrie and SJP is her in every role she plays. However, i do like SJP’s style and I love Mathew Broderick they seem a solid couple. I do think shes very money oriented though. Shes always flogging something.

I was about five years younger than them all. Appart from the glamour my friends and I were abit like all of them. Loved the show and still like it now.

What does everyone mean by it hasnt aged well, is it supposed to? Friends hasnt either but i still laugh at it.

I thought it was pretty ground breaking. God, remember that awful sex therapy thing they went to with the old couple demonstrating?😂 or Charlotte and her rampant rabbit? Sales mustve gone through the roof!

Yes!! Can't believe I remember a random chat show interview so many years later...

FromEden · 29/11/2020 23:11

Yes, I loved this show and genuinely didn't notice at the time what an absolute cock Carrie was. Even Charlotte giving birth turned into all about her because of the Big thing. Like are we really supposed to believe that Charlotte and Harry would have any interest in giving Carrie relationship advice after just having a baby ffs?

They were always eating - and she couldn't hold her knife and fork properly. Big must have been properly embarrassed.

Americans in general can't hold a knife and fork properly. They often don't use a knife at all and use the side of their fork to cut things and if they do they switch the knife to their right hand and then put it back down when they're done with it. Its all kinds of wrong!
