Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

Oh god she is horrible it almost makes it unwatchable. As pp said the one that really pissed me off was when she stood miranda up and made no effort to contact her to have dinner with her bf and wasnt even the least bit apologetic in fact sounded quite pleased with herself. She wouldn't have any friends in real life everyone would have phased her out.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 29/11/2020 20:41

That wasn't a pointed comment. Over the past few years have been quite a few threads on MN (and elsewhere) opining that SATC was up there with 'Love Thy Neighbour' or 'On The Buses' in terms of how lousy it is. I disagree. And I think Carrie was often a CF, yes.

x2boys · 29/11/2020 20:41

It's on one of the comedy channels on a loop,I was watching it again last week ,having not seen it in years ,she's very superficial, and Big just isn't that into her is he ?

BabloHoney · 29/11/2020 20:42

She was AWFUL. Never likes SATC because of Carrie. She was self centred, whingy and unfunny. The rest of them all seemed to go through real life problems, she just constantly moaned that she’d spent all her money on shoes

thedaytodayyesterday · 29/11/2020 20:42

@Nikhedonia you're right, I've changed my mind, the Miranda breastfeeding walk out is the worst Carrie moment. Miranda is drowning in series 5 and absolutely no one gives a fuck. Nina was correct with her face.

FortunesFave · 29/11/2020 20:45

The shoe thing always made me cringe...where someone stole hers at a party....I KNOW her friend was an arsehole about people taking off their shoes but to make her pay for them!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 29/11/2020 20:46

I really enjoyed watching it the first time round. I watched some episodes recently and it's not just Carrie's behaviour that is problematic. Samantha and the episode with the 'trannies' 🙄

The second movie had more cringe than a Carry On.

She expected Charlotte to offer a loan.

She didn’t specifically expect the ring to be sold for it.

VestaTilley · 29/11/2020 20:47

YANBU, I can’t bear SATC now, for so many reasons. Carrie’s a complete dick.

I don’t like Carrie but I loved that episode

Especially when the sales assistant said the kids had to stop running around

Her friend made no effort at all to find out who stole those shoes.

DillonPanthersTexas · 29/11/2020 20:50

Mark Kermode had it covered with his sex and the city 2 review

PompomDahlia · 29/11/2020 20:50

I knew this thread would be about the apartment - so entitled. Also, Carrie doesn't really seem to learn. It's perhaps understandable to be like that when you're young and in love for the first time, but then you're supposed to realise you've been an arse and do better

theelfisfurloughed · 29/11/2020 20:50

I always thought Big was more likely to end up with a Charlotte or Natasha type.

Remember the episode when Carrie finds out he goes to church with his mother, and sulks when he doesn't want to take her, which imo is perfectly understand as their 'relationship' is about 99% sex. And she goes anyway Shock

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:51

She expected Charlotte to offer a loan.

She didn’t specifically expect the ring to be sold for it.

That's not any better! Why should Charlotte loan her the money/pawn her engagement ring or whatever.

The mantra is don't lend what you can't afford to lose. And with someone as financially irresponsible as Carrie it was hardly going to be a loan.

She's so, so awful. Self centred and whiny, a total brat. And we're supposed to believe she's the glue that holds the group together? Pleases IRL they'd start a WhatsApp group just the 3 of them and the main discussion would be how to phase Carrie out Grin

GlummyMcGlummerson · 29/11/2020 20:54

@thedaytodayyesterday

She is awful. Why miranda asked her to be her birth partner is completely beyond me. Why not lovely Steve? Worst Carrie moment for me was when Charlotte gets engaged to Harry and Carrie just goes on and ON about her post it break up. "this has to be the day something else happened" IT ALREADY IS! YOUR BF GOT ENGAGED! no? Oh no wait, it has to be something happen TO YOU or else it doesn't count.
And she SLAPS THE POST IT NOTE OVWR CHARLOTTE'S LOCELY ENGAGEMENT RING Shock I can't believe Charlotte didn't stick the nut on her for that
Lizadork · 29/11/2020 20:55

Agree, hasn't aged well - when first aired it was something fresh, pro women and culturally defining. Now, what were we thinking?! The only one I like is Miranda, at a push.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 29/11/2020 20:55

And how she expected Auden to be cool with Big crashing his woodland weekend getaways.

I know, imagine inviting the man you had an affair with to your boyfriend's country home. God she was awful, as if she had 2 gorgeous men fighting over her

KitKat1985 · 29/11/2020 20:55

I think SATC has aged really badly generally. I used to love it but I watch it back now and find most of the characters fundamentally unlikeable.
Carrie is a whingy, shallow, self-obsessed two dimensional character who spends all of her money on shoes.
Charlotte is a pathetic, romantic idealist.
Samantha just came across as a sex obsessed weirdo.
The only character I really like when I watch it back is Miranda. Personally I enjoyed watching her and Steve's relationship far more than I liked watching Carrie and Mr Bigs.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 29/11/2020 20:57

@SebastianTheCrab

When I rewatched it after many years I realised Carrie turns literally every convo back to herself. Completely self obsessed.

Having said that Emily in Paris has made me desperate to re-watch SATC but I can't find it on streaming! Where are you watching it?

I think it's on Now TV at the moment.

Yes, the thing with the engagement ring bugged me too. Especially as Carrie worked out that her hundreds of pairs of shoes, at $4/500 a pop, would have been enough to cover a downpayment. Just because Charlotte had more money than her, it doesn't mean she should be expected to cover her friend who is constantly in debt.

Carrie should have thought herself lucky that she could afford such a lavish lifestyle when all she did was write one shit column a week.

Labralion · 29/11/2020 20:57

I've just rewatched the whole thing and I still love it. They're all terrible in their own ways. Carrie is a narcissist but you know what I thought aren't we all a bit like Carrie? I don't mind being a bit of a dick, as long as I'm the the main character.

formerbabe · 29/11/2020 20:57

Remember when Big bought the tv for the bedroom...jeez, what a total over reaction from her...so ungrateful that people didn't do everything exactly how she wanted them to.

itispersonal · 29/11/2020 21:00

I'm rewatched up to season 3.

I can't believe how bad Carrie is. Why did Big ever want her in season 1 she was a complete nutter. Always wanting more, going to his church, wanting to be his 'one'.

Off the point completely, but I do love her dress in that episode. The one she wears to the bank.
