Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

2nd film - risible. As a woman who spends a lot of time in Donegal I was amazed SJP would preside over a film with a bra-less Irish nanny, the slogan ‘Erin Go Back’ and contender for film’s worst take on an Irish accent until Wild Mountain Thyme

Yes, this is a really good point.

Is it my imagination, or did the nanny actually say "top of the morning to you?"

Quite possible. I watched it once. Never again. I may have repressed most of it.

ThePinkGuitar · 09/12/2020 09:22

Watching the episode where Miranda meets Steve - he’s so cute and sweet

ThePinkGuitar · 09/12/2020 09:25

But Miranda is a bitch in this :(

Nikhedonia · 09/12/2020 09:51

Miranda is very cynical at the beginning.

I watched the episode where she sees Skipper with another woman. I still cringe when he answers the phone to Miranda mid-sex and then breaks up with the girl "you are breaking up with me, whilst you are still inside of me" AngryAngryAngry

Oh, I HATE Skipper. He's not sweet, he's just graceless and callow and typical Nice Guy.

wimhoffbreather · 09/12/2020 15:03

Omg skipper!! I forgot about him. YY he is totally a ‘nice guy’. there was a guy I knew at uni who was like him in looks and attitude, and would bleat on about how women only like ‘arseholes’ and not ‘nice guys like him’ Grin

No "nice guy" would ever break up with someone mid-shag. It's fucking terrible thing to do to someone Shock

A Nice Guy doesn’t mean that he’s a nice person but rather he’s the type of man that complains he can’t get with women even though he’s a Nice Guy and other men are assholes.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 09/12/2020 18:42

I did mean it in the way @PlayingGrownUp puts it. I worked out quite early in my teens that lots of quiet shy boys were not sensitive or kind, just quiet!

MadameMiggeldy · 09/12/2020 19:02

Just realised Skipper is Ellie Bartlet’s fruit fly loving husband in the West Wing

MerchantOfVenom · 09/12/2020 21:07

Yes, Nice Guys are absolutely not nice guys.

They’re (one of) the worst sorts of entitled men out there. ‘I deserve a girlfriend because I’m so x, y, z’.

Ugh, no.

Yes, I knew that was what was meant which is why I put "nice guy" in inverted commas.

Absolutely. A bit like people who constantly tell you how trustworthy and loyal they are. Tend to be some of the biggest snakes!

I just cringed at the episode where Carrie forces a meeting with Big's mum. ARGH

Got to be one of the most cringeworthy Carrie Bradshaw moments!

@ThePinkGuitar you do realise you didn’t HAVE to watch them?! Confused

EachandEveryone · 10/12/2020 16:21

Nobody on here sounds like they like the show very much 😃

Nikhedonia · 10/12/2020 17:37

Love the show, don't like Carrie's CF attitude.

I personally loved it. It had it's day after the first movie IMO.
Although the Carrie/Big/DM scene was totally cringeworthy I had a friend in RL she'd accidentally on purpose put herself into situations to force a meet with DM's/ExW's/Work friends men ran on her.
I also had a friend who'd over analyse over single word and was insanely insecure relationships made her crazy she was normal when single.

Sewsosew · 11/12/2020 13:37

I’m watching the second movie (can’t see one anywhere).
She’s such a twat to Big. He has an actual job, where I assume he has to keep earning millions to keep her in the style she’s accustomed. She goes off her head about him wanting to watch some fucking TV after being at work all day. Cow.

Nikhedonia · 14/12/2020 11:37

I watched the episode where she invites Big to Aidan's country house last night Shock

I would be pretty annoyed if my guest invited anyone else to come and stay, but if he invited the person he had cheated on me with, I think I would possibly combust with rage GrinGrin

I hated how unsupportive everyone was towards Miranda when Steve cheated. It was only a couple of days later and they were all asking her why she couldn’t just get back with him, asking how he was doing, acting like Miranda was so unreasonable for needing some space. And yet they spent half the movie coddling Carrie over Big, dropped everything to go to Mexico with her. At one point Samantha literally feeds her with a spoon like a baby. Then when Carrie gets mad at Miranda she has the cheek to ask why she should forgive Miranda if Miranda won’t forgive Steve!

Don’t get me wrong, I like Steve and was happy he and Miranda worked through it eventually but I thought she deserved far more support from her ‘friends’ than she got.

Yes, I agree it was a really shitty way to treat Miranda. I felt she was very alone with that. She was so isolated and her whole family unit had broken down. Pretty devastating SadSad

Yeah I think Carrie over played what Miranda said to big, if that’s all it took to cause him to jilt her then he’sa flakey fuck and run away from him but in real life he would have thought, she’s just separated after her husband slept with someone else, of course she’s going to say that, best get some shut eye for the big day.
But no Carrie believes that’s all it was that caused him to not turn up not her creating a complete circus and ignoring all his wishes throughout the wedding planning.
