Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

*Nickedonia" I guess you could say that about any woman that married into money. Including Charlotte.

queenofarles · 07/12/2020 13:18

Candice Bushnell owes Darn Star for making something out of her books, I tried reading them, they were so dull.

Not sure at this point if you are playing devils advocate or just disagreeing with every post I make for the sake of it.

I am disagreeing with your posts because I happen to disagree with what's written in them. Why would there be "for the sake of anything" on an anonymous forum.

Nikhedonia · 07/12/2020 16:04

Sure.

@Yamayo I think know how they met was explained in some flashbacks at the start of the second film. I seem to recall they said Samantha worked maybe in a club. Hopefully someone will be along soon with a better memory!

Yamayo · 07/12/2020 17:54

Bottom line is, sometimes circumstancs mean you have to move.
She was scrambling to cover her rent because she didn't want to lower herself to move somewhere cheaper.
So yes, CF.

Yamayo · 07/12/2020 17:58

@GellerYeller I can't bring myself to re-watch the second film.
I recently saw the first one after a good decade and I was cringing so badly.
It really is an exercise in humiliating Carrie's friends isn't it?
The 'joke' about Charlotte's food poisoning and Miranda's pubes, fat Samantha etc
It was awful.

It's interesting that having re-watched a lot of old shows with my teenager, for me SATC is the one that has aged the worst.
I can't believe how religiously I watched it back in the day.

wimhoffbreather · 07/12/2020 18:02

@Yamayo it has aged really badly hasn’t it!

I watched it as a teenager and thought it was cool and sexy etc, but watched it again in my 20s and just thought they were all so immature, with such outdated views! It’s crazy to think they were supposed to be the age I am now (30s).

I'm sure it was mean my as lighthearted jokes. The fat shaming of Samantha was pretty awful and the obsession with Miranda's pubes was just weird

@Yamayo yes all the others seemed to be naked at points and in all of Carrie's liaisons she wore a bra. There was the fashion show with the sparkly pants where she fell I guess. Charlotte had that awful food poisoning on a date with Harry too. So that's twice! Poor Kim was always in the buff. And looking incredible but still...

Sewsosew · 07/12/2020 19:48

Carrie could have tried to get other work than a once a week column and the odd article in Vogue. I’m fairly sure in a major publishing city like New York there are other writing jobs

browneyes77 · 07/12/2020 19:57

Sorry, currently watching SATC season 2 on Sky and Miranda just came out with a golden line I’d forgotten about.

She’s just found out she has a lazy ovary and is on a date with a guy who has hair plugs. When she tells the guy she’s looking at freezing her eggs, he starts going on about desperate older women abusing science.

She retorts “Hey, I don’t need to be lectured on science by a guy who’s growing a crop rotation on his head” GrinGrin

🤣🤣🤣

hammeringinmyhead · 07/12/2020 19:58

I always thought that this was actually the most realistic fight that the characters would have had if they were real - as they were so different to each other. I have 3 single friends in their 30s and in terms of attitude to money there are 2 Mirandas and a Carrie.

I understand both sides. I think it was filmed quite well as you could see Charlotte consider it, sideeye Carrie and decide not to, which was what hurt her.

PlayingGrownUp · 07/12/2020 20:10

From the start of the second movie she met Charlotte on a subway car one night when a homeless man dropped his pants, she met Miranda when Miranda was crying in the dressing room at a department store Carrie worked at and she met Samantha when Samantha worked in a bar they went to.

For some reason I always vividly remember the opening of the second movie lol

Yeah abs interestingly (but unsurprisingly) the relationships were all Carrie meeting X rather than "Carrie and X were on a night out and met Y"

I would have liked to have seen more exchanges and scenes with the other three interacting.

PlayingGrownUp · 07/12/2020 23:00

Yeah it’s disappointing- I always loved Charlotte and Samantha’s interactions. They have little in common but have known each other a long time and want the other to be happy.

FromEden · 07/12/2020 23:52

I thought it was for a deposit because she had to buy the place back from Aiden who had bought it and the one next door. Still a CF though. What did she think, she could just keep living there despite being a total bitch to him?

Honeyroar · 07/12/2020 23:54

I always detested Carrie. She deserved to end up with shitty cheating Mr Big!

Luciferthecat666 · 08/12/2020 00:09

@formerbabe

I watched the second movie last night...they all seemed so wealthy in it...more so than they were in the show.
Samantha was a publicist and she used to be Smith's publicist and she made him into a massive movie star so she'd get a huge pay out from that for sure! Samantha has also worked for incredibly wealthy clients throughout the series Richard Wright who cheated on her, Kat Dennings character, Lucy Lui etc so it makes sense she's also wealthy

Miranda works in corporate law and was a partner so I'd imagine she's also wealthy plus she's very financially savvy I daresay she has some serious savings set aside for emergencies plus Steve owns a successful bar in Manhattan so his income probably helps.

Charlotte is from a wealthy family anyway so it wouldn't surprise me if she has a trust fund plus it was stated in series four that Charlotte doesn't even have to work so I'd assume she has cash. Her husband Harry is a top divorce lawyer and has his own practise and he deals with wealthy clients as well I'd assume he makes millions!

Carrie is a successful writer and book author and at the end of the series was getting big royalty cheques. She's also married to Big who is the equivalent of Donald Trump on Wall Street so I'd assume Big is a millionaire.

MadameMiggeldy · 08/12/2020 02:06

@Nikhedonia

I'd rather live in Brooklyn on my own dime than be a CF in Manhattan.
As titles go ‘CF in Manhattan’ has a less polished ring to it than ‘SATC’ Smile

2nd film - risible. As a woman who spends a lot of time in Donegal I was amazed SJP would preside over a film with a bra-less Irish nanny, the slogan ‘Erin Go Back’ and contender for film’s worst take on an Irish accent until Wild Mountain Thyme

StartupRepair · 08/12/2020 04:46

The second movie is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

ThePinkGuitar · 08/12/2020 07:48

The first movie was shockingly bad - the second movie I’m not sure how it ever got made it’s absolutely appalling, physically cringeworthy. Thank you Kim C for sparing us the third instalment 👍

FrancoBranco · 08/12/2020 11:13

The second film was a crime against humanity. The series was a little gritty and didn't always have a happy ending (which made it more 'real') but the films were so Hollywood and distasteful.

IntermittentParps · 08/12/2020 11:18

when she’s sadly mooching around Paris with a face like a slapped arse in her ridiculous take on ‘Parisian‘ outfits. She doesn’t go to a single museum or gallery, or enjoy the amazing hotel, just bleats about everything after about 24 hours.

The whole Paris storyline where she stands up the nice people who want to throw a party in her honour, just to hang around on her own outside an art gallery waiting for Petrovsky when he never asked or expected her to do so!
I thought she was pathetic in Paris for exactly these reasons. (although TBF she says to Miranda she's been to all the museums 'twice', which a) you couldn't; there's too many and b) so what? Go again!

If I was being put up in a beautiful Paris hotel, and I was a writer, I'd be writing my head off about it and filing copy for lucrative columns like there was no tomorrow.

I also LOL at the episode where she has no money and agonises about having to – the horror – get a bus.
