It makes me so angry that people are protesting about lockdown... yes its frustrating but it's being done for a reason... to try and prevent as many deaths as there would be without a lockdown... they are selfishly spreading covid and yhe police have to put themselves out there and risk their lifes to stop the gatherings! 😠 What do they think will happen!? That government will say ok- ok you win... go wild, have fun and mingle lets just forget covid now!?.....Does this make anybody else absolutely fuming at the human race!!!?

Doesn't need to be to the UK. They don't need us Brits. They'll be just fine with Australia and Asian Pacific countries.
And then there's the vaccines.

Well said @SheepandCow

echt · 29/11/2020 00:54

The lockdown is killing as many people by suicide as the number of people it is trying to save

Do you really think the number suicides is going to be in the tens of thousands? Hmm

Oh hang, on. Misuse of the word "think" by me.

Userzzz · 29/11/2020 00:55

What is wrong with you?
Peoples lives are being ruined over a virus with a less than 1% fatality rate!!
People have a right to see their family, to work!
If you are so terrified of COVID, put on a hazmat suit and stay in your home!

SheepandCow · 29/11/2020 00:56

My close family are in Australia. The vast majority over there are very much in support of their freedom to live safely aka their effective containment measures. Their protests were absolutely not massive. Like here it's a minority and led by far right groups.

Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, and Vietnam are not remote nor are they sparsely populated.

Out of interest, do you believe that elderly and disabled people should have the freedom to live safely?

Do you think our doctors and nurses and other healthcare staff should have the freedom to work in safety without risk to their lives and mental health?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/11/2020 00:59

Did you go and fight for our rights today?

I didn't because we are in the middle of a pandemic. Seemed a bit foolish really. Would rather save my risk ration for doing my job.

Duemarch2021 · 29/11/2020 01:00

@Sobeyondthehills

I agree it's all a load of shit! I agree the government are taking the piss, I agree that it's an awful, sad time for everyone.. more for some than others.. but getting together the way they are is just going to make matters worse for themselves and eveyone else, not better

Australia has over 25 million people, mostly clustered on the coastlines and largely in the capital cities, many living in cramped quarters and in highrise. In Australia, only 907 have died of Covid.

The United Kingdom has a population of roughly 67 million. 58,000 deaths.

Could have closed its borders to tourists (particularly not allowed residents to travel to and from countries like Spain, or Italy, or anywhere else that had experienced large outbreaks and consequently had simmering numbers of asymptomatic infected carriers) but did not. Locked down too late. Gave out confusing messages. Shithouse attempt at track and trace, etc etc.

And if MN is anything to go by, has a huge cohort of entitled nitwits steadfastly cutting their noses off to spite their faces by refusing to take the virus seriously. It is going to be mayhem, come the new year.

Duemarch2021 · 29/11/2020 01:10

@Userzzz

1% isn't a chance I'd like to take on my family's life's, they are vulnerable... people do have the righy to do these things..... just not at the moment because there's a pandemic! It's a virus that spreads rapidly and kills people...🤔 I want to see my family too and i do, i keep 2 metres away and we sit in the garden..or i sit way away with a mask on... what's wrong with doing that until the vaccine is provided? Why do they have to meet up in groups of hundreds, fighting and drug taking? Risking passing it around groups of people and to police who are just doing their jobs... What do they expect to gain... this is the question that nobody who oposes is answering...

@Duemarch2021

Then when do you expect those people to do? They have lost their jobs, their business, their homes, most are struggling to put food on the table for their kids. Their MPs are not listening to them, or not able to do anything. Government officials are refusing to meet with them (over zoom)

Its not them you should be feeling disgusted by, its this government, who have spent most of their time infighting, Cummings and his puppet Johnson and the media who are making people fight amongst themselves, when we really should be looking to a government.

GurpsAgain · 29/11/2020 01:13

Why do people always go on about the 1% mortality rate!

That’s never been the worry. It’s the number of ventilators and resources required to stop cases potentially becoming fatal - like in the West Midlands hospital mentioned earlier which is at breaking point.

If everything went back to normal tomorrow (pubs open, no social distancing, etc) and the virus ripped through the country then we would see many times more deaths. Look how it rocketed after the pubs reopened after initial lockdown.

earthyfire · 29/11/2020 01:16

I wish more people would.

Would that be when this government encouraged loads of people to go out and eat?

Duemarch2021 · 29/11/2020 01:17

@Userzzz

I'm terrified of the virus yes... not for myself but im terrified of it taking my family who are vulnerable or older... so no... i wont be staying in my house, but i will be keeping my distance and wearing a mask and living a shitty boring life for another few months in order to potentially save some lives.. i wont be protesting or having get togethers as i dont want to spread the deadly virus. Seeing people stupidly interacting pointlessly the way that they are makes me upset and angry... The more people carrying covid means a larger chance that my family will get it

I say good for them. Enough is enough.

notangelinajolie · 29/11/2020 01:21

The 155 arrested today don't speak for me or probably a significant amount of the other 68 million people in this country.
There will always be stupid, ignorant, uneducated people who believe they know better.
These people are scum.

But any jobs lost are the consequences of failed containment. Because we didn't have a proper lockdown. And also, these protestors are saying they don't want a vaccine (despite the vaccine being the way to recover the economy) Confused

And what does putting the lives of vulnerable people at risk achieve? Putting traumatised NHS staff under even more pressure, risking more job losses (because of failed containment), putting people at risk of Long Covid disability. How does that help?

The government won't care. It's not affecting them. They have guaranteed hospital beds and treatment including potentially drugs we won't all get (like the ones Trump was given).

Duemarch2021 · 29/11/2020 01:21

@Sobeyondthehills

To be honest, I don't know what I expect them to do.. I just feel that doing what they are doing is only going to make things worse. Not all the protesters are people in the circumstances that you mention, some are just people jumping on the bandwagon, not really sure what they believe in or want.. just there for the kicks... one man dressed as santa on drugs... what's he trying to prove!?

GurpsAgain · 29/11/2020 01:24

It’s doubtful because restaurants generally meet you at the door and show you to your table, requiring you to wear a mask when walking around. Tables are well spaced out.

Compare that to pubs where loads of people throng outside in the smoking areas without masks and talking animatedly like drunk people do. Being a truck driver who works the evenings and usually in city centres in the midlands, I’ve seen this countless times. The one pub I’ve been to since the start of it all was an eye opener too. Landlord was watching how many people came in, but once in they were all elbow to elbow at the bar.

MercyBooth · 29/11/2020 01:24

Unfortunately when there is any protest you will always get a few jump on it for shits and giggles.

TheSunIsStillShining · 29/11/2020 01:24
  1. Could these people who are happy to gather and spread whatever they have sign a waiver that they don't want NHS to treat them?
  1. Why aren't people protesting against the gov giving billions to friends and family? Or boycotting certain chains and establishments?

Western civilization is pretty fucked up and this is just the very beginning of it's downfall. When individualism takes over to this extent than there is no real hope for society.
I agree in principal that everyone has the right to be an idiot. But it's threatening the whole of society as these idiots are the loudest and they have the right to vote. So politicians will try to please them --> see bj. Leak document, gauge "public" reaction and then do according to public noise.
Hence we didn't close our borders when we could and should have, we never had a proper lockdown and the lockdown we have now is more of a joke than anything else. A very sick joke that will cost lives and the economy.

But hey, liberties are being protected because we can freely go out and protest.
Liberties would be protected if we brought these idiots (aka gov) to justice via the justice system. Or the ones who wrecked the country by blatantly lying. That would be liberties. This is only panem et circes. But humans have not changed much and en masse are still falling for this crap.

GurpsAgain · 29/11/2020 01:26

And if we need to build yet more hospitals, whose taxes are going to end up paying for it!

Exactly!

Anyone would think the protestors don't want things to go back to normal. They take action to spread Covid AND they don't want a vaccine.

Sobeyondthehills · 29/11/2020 01:29

@SheepandCow
I am talking about excludeduk who didn't get any help during the first lockdown from this government.

I am not saying there were not some idiots there, but people are getting desperate, I get the government doesn't give a shit. But considering Johnson is about to do another U turn on tiers, it would be nice if someone would actually challenge him on how shit he has been over the last 9 months. I really despise this government, but back in March, April, May, even I was saying give them time, its not something we have ever had to deal with, blah blah blah. We are now in November and nothing has been learnt from the previous months.

The blame for this shitstorm is firmly on the Tory government and not just this government, but previous ones that put in rules and laws that have made it possible for Covid to continue to infect people.

MercyBooth · 29/11/2020 01:30

Id say people being locked down and being discouraged from putting their own families first and putting the safety of strangers they dont know first is the opposite of individualism personally
Expecting people to continuously put ppl they dont know , before their own children has a shelf life.

No, some are just idiots. They still have a right to protest that the Earth is flat, dinosaurs are not real and Elvis is still alive.

But I am not going to be disgusted with anyone other than this government that has caused this
