Duemarch2021 · 28/11/2020 22:43

It makes me so angry that people are protesting about lockdown... yes its frustrating but it's being done for a reason... to try and prevent as many deaths as there would be without a lockdown... they are selfishly spreading covid and yhe police have to put themselves out there and risk their lifes to stop the gatherings! 😠 What do they think will happen!? That government will say ok- ok you win... go wild, have fun and mingle lets just forget covid now!?.....Does this make anybody else absolutely fuming at the human race!!!?

No

TheSmallAssassin · 28/11/2020 23:35

You're presuming that the government always makes the right decisions, which isn't a given. Nobody can 100% know what the right course of action is in this situation, I think it's healthy to challenge the narrative.

tortoiseshell1985 · 28/11/2020 23:37

Protests through Europe, too.
And getting bigger and noisier all the time..
Thank God

BloggersBlog · 28/11/2020 23:38

Ruddy idiots. Look at other countries that have stuck to the rule like NZ and how low their deaths are in proportion.

Pathetic and an embarrassment that people in the UK just cant be told.

But I mainly feel sorry for the policemen and women who have to deal with these jerks

MrsGradyOldLady · 28/11/2020 23:39

Personally, no I do not think protesting will prolong this. The Government have hung a lot of people out to dry and through the media deliberately tried to turn people against each other.

And we're doing here in this thread. Don't you see? Look up not to the side. There's the real problem.

ginandbearit · 28/11/2020 23:40

Because lots of things dont make sense about this virus ..if you look at the youtube clips of this and earlier demos its not just weirdy loons like Piers Corbyn protesting..many young women in the crowds , many lucid arguments and a very heavy handed police presence..and almost total news blackout . The point is that for many people there is a feeling of something not quite right about all this .. And as for mixing with so many people and spreading the virus..been to Tesco or any big supermarket recently ..more chance of getting it there than out in the streets of London .

What is your evidence for a news black out?
Intothesheepfold · 28/11/2020 23:44

What Bloggersblog said.

mumsyandtiredzz · 28/11/2020 23:44

I don’t think it’s just about people wanting to ‘mingle and have fun’ though, people are losing their jobs and their livelihoods, dying of cancer that could have been treated, spiralling into terrible mental health. I’m not saying I agree with them, the situation is what it is and it’s crap either way, but I can understand why tensions are beginning to run high and some are starting to crack.

PickAChew · 28/11/2020 23:45

They're entitled to protest. Even the blatantly batshit ones. There are legitimate questions to be asked about how the situation is handled and how all risks are balanced.

MercyBooth · 28/11/2020 23:49

What wont be helping is the guilt tripping and emotional blackmail from certain quarters and the press that people are getting over simply wanting to see their families at Christmas. Families they havent seen for 9 months or more.

Exhibit A!!! twitter.com/DrLindaDykes/status/1332028759856320520/photo/1

I dont recall seeing the same kind of "campaigns" back in Feb re, the ski trips.

Whether im right or wrong how it looks is that its the "plebs" having to make more of the sacrifices and having more asked of them. One of last weekends protests was on a housing estate in Basildon. Anger is growing because we are NOT all in this together. But they are all being branded anti maskers. AFAIK you dont have to wear one outside but ive also seen protesters in masks when ive watched the videos.

Nothing to do with the fact that NZ is at the arse end of nowhere and has about 74 inhabitants then? Hmm

Newuser991 · 28/11/2020 23:50

@Noname99

Nope .... totally disagree. Fucking delighted that they are protesting against this ongoing nightmare. The govt have had 9 months to increase capacity of the NHS to cope with the increase. Instead of doing this, they’ve chosen to spend stupid amounts of money paying businesses not to open and people not to work and put the population under house arrest. I’ll be joining them and lobbing my MP to vote against this latest round of insanity
Here here
Newuser991 · 28/11/2020 23:51

Hear hear ... autocorrect Lol

Nomoreboobs · 28/11/2020 23:52

No, not at all, they’re doing the right thing.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/11/2020 23:54

I agree they absolutely have a right to protest

But we can still judge them for it - I'm sick of public sector workers being put in danger. They're actually fighting the police in some of the photos today AngrySad

Literallynoidea · 28/11/2020 23:54

No. People's businesses are going bust because of this massive overreaction to a bug that bears little risk to working age people.

It's a disgrace and if I didn't have a disabled child to look after I'd have been there too.

Newuser991 · 28/11/2020 23:55

I have a feeling the lockdown zealots will change their mind when they see the tax and council tax rises next year

Duemarch2021 · 28/11/2020 23:56

Ok.. so lets just say.. people protest over minimum wage or other issues like that, the goverment have a big think and decide ok we'll have to split the pot somehow to change national min wage... protests win yay!!! ... in this circumstance... what do protesters expect to 'win'? The right to freedom? .. ok so the government say you win, we will pretend covid doesnt exist then and carry on as we were last year, open up all the pubs, schools and businesses and forget about covid..

What do you think will eventually happen?? Seriously?

SheepandCow · 28/11/2020 23:59

@AldiAisleofCrap

The lockdown is killing as many people by suicide as the number of people it is trying to save. What utter rubbish!
Yes. Utter rubbish. Why do people keep peddling these lies.

No wonder the government wants a crack down on dangerous fake news online. It's highly irresponsible.

However, since people are expressing a concern about suicide rates, I look forward to major campaigns on safe housing for all. Suicide rates are very high amongst the homeless and badly housed.

ElizabethG81 · 28/11/2020 23:59

I'm more disgusted by the fact that it's currently illegal to protest. That's a bigger concern to me than this virus to be honest.

Tolleshunt · 29/11/2020 00:00

. They're actually fighting the police in some of the photos today angrysaD

I’d be interested to know why the police were fighting them, given the police have stood by for other protests, and massive house parties, and large funerals. Did the protesters start on the police, who then retaliated? Or did the police wade in and try to move on a peaceful protest?

ktp100 · 29/11/2020 00:00

They look like an intelligent bunch, don't they?

StrawberryTot · 29/11/2020 00:01

Nope, personally I believe YABU, my family and I stand with them.

epcot15 · 29/11/2020 00:01

I absolutely agree with their right to protest that should never be taken away from us in what is currently a free country. I also agree with their cause.
Op did you feel total outrage when the protests happened in the summer you know the ones where people were mindlessly ripping down statues and causing criminal damage while the police just stood by and watched?
