It drives me nuts.

Totally selfish.

OP posts:

Why though? You're not the Parking Monitor and all you do is make yourself look like a tit.

Exactly. People acting like the Car Park Police, making arsey comments etc...just stop!

How could a grown adult get in but not a baby?

Day2andCounting · 27/11/2020 21:44

@Feministicon

I park in those spaces if I have one of my kids with me irrespective of whether it’s my 7 year old or my 13 year old. They are a luxury, get that through your head.
Why?
DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 27/11/2020 21:45

Don't forget to join us for the next round of MN Bingo where we'll be talking about childhood obesity, Universal Credit claimants with great big tellies and 'Why do women without children use Mumsnet?'.

I'll buy myself a fancy new bingo dabber for the occassion with my benefit money Grin

Dillo10 · 27/11/2020 21:46

YANBU but really wish they were for parents with children and also pregnant ladies with bumps they can't fit out of the car door when someone parks a bit close Grin

Laundrybasketseverywhere · 27/11/2020 21:46

Happy sigh. I parked my nippy little car that isn’t quite a sports car but goes damn fast in one last night outside Tesco.

All the disabled spaces were full and I have a blue badge so I parked up to go and do my groceries.

Nobody said anything to me. I was most disappointed.

pinkdragons · 27/11/2020 21:47

Yes, I agree OP.

Witnessed so much of it recently.

FightingWithTheWind · 27/11/2020 21:47

@ghostyslovesheets the infant was in an infant car seat which unlike the slim grown adult can't breathe in/bend to squeeze in. The space they left him was truly ridiculous in fairness, anyone larger or a pregnant woman would also be stuck.

Gancanny · 27/11/2020 21:48

No one ever says anything to me either, I've spent years perfecting my "got a fucking problem?" raised eyebrow and "can't see you, don't care" blank expression.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/11/2020 21:49

Baby out of car seat - on seat - car seat wrested in baby back in seat - off you go

Inconsiderate parking is not nice though

Gancanny · 27/11/2020 21:49

If parking in a standard space its usually best to just leave the car seat in the car, easier on your back too.

Laundrybasketseverywhere · 27/11/2020 21:50

I wish somebody would say something to me so I can post about them on mumsnet. But no one ever does.

Feministicon · 27/11/2020 21:51

Why what?

ghostyslovesheets · 27/11/2020 21:51

Better for baby as well not to be in a hard car seat for too long - I never took the seat out as I’m so short I couldn’t see over the cat seat trolleys

Gancanny · 27/11/2020 21:51

@Laundrybasketseverywhere if you're anywhere near me we could meet in the car park at the big Tescos. Park in a P&C space, I'll shout at you, then we can swap, then we can both both post about it.

Laundrybasketseverywhere · 27/11/2020 21:52

Works for me. 😁

Laundrybasketseverywhere · 27/11/2020 21:56

To be serious. I’m disabled. I have a blue badge so there’s no doubt about it.

If the disabled spaces are all full, I park in a parent and child space because they’re close to the store (I can’t walk far) and they are wider so I can open the door of the car (because I need to open the door wide to get out or I’m stuck in the car).

Having a baby or child in a car seat is temporary.

My disability is degenerative. I will only get worse.

You’re welcome to make pointed comments but you’ll get a I’m allowed in return.

And Tesco’s even knew my car (it’s distinctive) and let me park in the p&c before I got my badge because they know me.

FightingWithTheWind · 27/11/2020 21:57

@ghostyslovesheets That would be completley unsafe though, even reversing out of a space there could be an accident it only takes one person not paying attention. I'm not suggesting that anyone should go around questioning people parked their but if they don't need that space then they are selfish.

Gancanny · 27/11/2020 21:59

To be fair, the odds of having an injury causing collision whilst slowly reversing the two feet needed to enable opening the door is vanishingly small.

nanny2012nanny · 27/11/2020 21:59

I’m afraid I parked in mother and toddler bays when I broke my leg as wasn’t eligible for a blue badge and could just about walk around a supermarket.
I didn’t have a cast as had my leg pinned and screwed back together and could weight bare so as an onlooker that not obviously in pain.
I was shouted at many a time resulting in me pulling up my trousers to reveal horrific scars, stitches and bruising.
Not everyone is a piss taker

Mylittlesandwich · 27/11/2020 22:02

My SPD started long before I looked pregnant. I avoided shopping where possible but being completely housebound was upsetting. I'd park further away from the shop with plenty of space to start with but then walking that far became too difficult so at about 30 weeks I started parking in parent and child spaces. They saved my sanity for the few weeks before driving became impossible. In the 2 weeks before I gave birth I needed a wheelchair to get around so we needed the extra space when my mum took me to the shops. I obviously wasn't eligible for a blue badge.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/11/2020 22:07

But you don’t need to reverse - just put baby in on a seat (passenger) car seat in (which if you can get and adult in you can get a baby less car seat in) - seat in place - baby strapped in seat - all good

Yes he may have to climb over to the back - and yes it’s better if people don’t park over lines - but it’s not impossible

Even easier - excuse me passing human - can you hold this baby and seat while I back out?

Feministicon · 27/11/2020 22:08

I can’t imagine asking anyone why they’d parked where they’d parked, You deserve the same coming to you if you are faced with someone with a hidden disability.

SnackSizeRaisin · 27/11/2020 22:12

Or just put baby in boot, reverse 1 metre, and put baby in properly?
It's people with massive cars who can't park who clog up the p&c spaces here. Why get a huge jeep or SUV if you are bad at parking, I wonder? Must be a constant stress.

x2boys · 27/11/2020 22:22

Meh we park in either the parent or disabled bays when we have our ten year old child who is disabled and HAS a blue badge with us whichever is closer to the shop
