To think that Charles and Camila are actually an example of genuine love

Yes of course I feel sorry for Diana. Yes I think being a royal has a huge impact. But they let young and are now still together and seemingly happy in their 70’s, despite a lot of shunning, negative press, etc.

APB has shagged half Gloucestershire. I'm not sure he could claim victim status, or would want to.

He's the most shagtastic of the lot since he married in the 1970s. Like most open marriages, it was news to the wife, ie Camilla, at first.

She and Charles have got the time and money to live apart, and that's how their relationship has always worked.

MrsToothyBitch · 25/11/2020 22:31

@campion, I've heard this too. That Wallis was horrified he had abdicated because she hadn't necessarily really wanted to marry him. But kind of had to after that. She didn't even get an HRH.

You know they don’t live together right??

I find the comments, generally, very interesting, I lived through the Diana days and always thought she seemed very fake . Once she died she became risen to sainthood and if you defended Charles at all the majority would go ballistic. The current generation seems far more realistic about that tragic period, laying the majority of the fault with their families.
One other thing where I tended to buck the trend of opinion was about the Queen in the week later, the TV news programmes carried numerous interviews with wailers outside Buck House asking Why wasn't the Queen her with her grieving people? When I tried to argue that she was, for the first time ever in her reign probably, putting family first and caring for her heart-broken grandsons, oh no, she should be in London, leaving thm in Scotland presumably'
So glad that sense is entering the discussion.

Smellbellina · 25/11/2020 22:32

Yea I though Wallace was manouvered into it and not so keen at all but stuck with it, or maybe that’s just the current rhetoric?

ScrambledSmegs · 25/11/2020 22:32

@ScrambledSmegs

Wasn't there some scandal of another mistress during his marriage to Diana, who committed suicide? Or am I misremembering?
Oh, I did misremember. It was Kanga Tryon, she had severe health and addiction issues, and claimed to have been pushed through a glass window in a rehab centre.
Oreservoir · 25/11/2020 22:32

I accept that Charles and Camilla have true love but I think they should have at least remained apart for the first 3 years of his marriage.
Charles didn't ever give his marriage to Diana a proper chance.
If a woman's in Diana's position was on MN now detailing her husband's behaviour he and Camilla would be vilified and LTB would be on every comment.

Cygne · 25/11/2020 22:33

Charles wanted to be king and have the mistress. I'm sure Andrew would have stepped up.

I suspect that, if we had reached that point, they would have altered the rules of succession considerably earlier so as to put Anne in pole position.

MrsToothyBitch · 25/11/2020 22:34

@Supersimkin2 isn't APB reportedly a bit of a model (in part) for Rupert Campbell Black?

Vintagevixen · 25/11/2020 22:37

Probably they do love each other, but don't let those glasses be rose tinted. She was one of many, just the one with the most staying power!

formerbabe · 25/11/2020 22:37

Most aristocracy appear to have the morals of alley cats

They're no different imo

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:37

@Oreservoiri thought they did stay apart for quite some time (despite what the crown shows). They got married in 1981 - what year were the “tampon tapes” - early 90’s?

I agree. (My grandma would be horrified to know! Grin)

Really like what I see of Camilla. The way she is with her dogs, the wink she did when Trump visited. Just seems like a likeable lady!

chillibeansauce · 25/11/2020 22:40

I saw her book launch. She’s absolutely stunning irl. Gorgeous smooth skin for a smoker and really warm / friendly aura about Camilla. This was about 15 years ago and she must have been in her mid fifties then ? How the press always managed to snap her at her worst after seeing her live always makes me quite Hmm now...

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:41

@Vintagevixen oh see I don’t recall any gossip about that.

I’ve always got the impression they were more like friends now. Sure they might have had passion years ago but I don’t see much of it now and Charles could hardly divorce a second time after they broke up his first marriage.

It’s certainly not about looks though because Camilla looks like rod hull

MrsHound · 25/11/2020 22:41

The way they treated Diana was atrocious. However Im glad they are together now after all it would be a shame to spoil two houses

user1473878824 · 25/11/2020 22:42

@CommanderBurnham

True love was Edward and Wallace - he gave up the throne to have his woman. Charles wanted to be king and have the mistress. I'm sure Andrew would have stepped up.
It was lovely that they could then just be together, hosting the Nazis they loved so much while he bitterly complained about having to give up everything.
Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:42

@chillibeansauce it’s interesting - anyone who’s met/coke across her always seems to like her.

longwayoff · 25/11/2020 22:43

Whatever love means Hmm

user1473878824 · 25/11/2020 22:46

@Noddyandbiggerears Everyone does seem to think that the Crown is a documentary rather than a drama.

Oreservoir · 25/11/2020 22:46

I thought Camilla was sounding Diana out right before the marriage to find out what Charles would be up to without Diana so she could be there instead.
They certainly carried on an emotional affair.
Diana was never going to be suited to Charles though. They had nothing in common except royal blood.

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:47

@Oreservoir I doubt that actually happened tbh

GabsAlot · 25/11/2020 22:48

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:49

@user1473878824 very true. I’ve thought this about Charles and camilla for a long time (though of course popped into my head because I’d thr crown).
