To think that Charles and Camila are actually an example of genuine love

Yes of course I feel sorry for Diana. Yes I think being a royal has a huge impact. But they let young and are now still together and seemingly happy in their 70’s, despite a lot of shunning, negative press, etc.

True love was Edward and Wallace - he gave up the throne to have his woman. Charles wanted to be king and have the mistress. I'm sure Andrew would have stepped up.

EdithWeston · 25/11/2020 22:14

Everyone forgets the other mistress before and during his first marriage.

HalfBrick · 25/11/2020 22:14

I was thinking similar today.

RunningFromInsanity · 25/11/2020 22:15

I agree. I really admire CPB, she’s lived in Diana’s shadow her whole marriage, had absolute vile abuse aimed at her, and just remained quiet and dignified.

I met her once and she was lovely. Took the time to speak to everyone in the crowd, and came across as a genuine warm woman.

I love her and Kates relationship too.

Snowman123 · 25/11/2020 22:16

I agree.
I think they are the real love story.

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:17

I think they always look relaxed together when photographed etc. The separate houses thing I think it’s a different world to be honest - and one that you can’t judge on.

@RunningFromInsanity I know a few people who have met her and said she was lovely. This probably also forms my opinion to be fair.

Wasn't there some scandal of another mistress during his marriage to Diana, who committed suicide? Or am I misremembering?

VetiverAndLavender · 25/11/2020 22:21

A couple doesn't have to live together all the time to have a good or happy marriage, no, but I do think part of what makes it difficult and admirable for an average couple to stay together for their whole adult lives is that they don't often have the option (or desire, tbf) to live separately while married.

Living together day-in, day-out, putting up with one another's idiosyncrasies, not having the option to just see one another when it suits and escape for an absence to allow the heart to grow fonder... Doing all that and still deciding to stay together for the long haul... That's the kind of relationship or marriage I most respect.

mumduty · 25/11/2020 22:23

I sometimes do think if they ever scratched their heads and think if all this was worth it since being allowed to be together? if the grass was greener or if they feel any guilt?

mbosnz · 25/11/2020 22:23

I think the lot of them are over privileged, self pitying, self indulgent idiots, on the whole, with really good PR and shielding.

campion · 25/11/2020 22:23

True love was Edward and Wallace - he gave up the throne to have his woman

More likely that she was the convenient excuse. He didn't want to be king and she was reported to be horrified that he'd abdicated.

I like Camilla.

Well thank Christ he didn't!

Thank goodness Andrew wasn't needed!! 🙊 🙊 🙊 🙊
Swisscheesemodel · 25/11/2020 22:26

It stops two other people being miserable.

Ultimatecougar · 25/11/2020 22:26

He couldn't have married Camilla earlier. She didn't wait for him while he was abroad and married APB instead.

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 22:26

@mumduty that’s a fair point. But if I recall there was still a lot of upset even after he divorced. I think the r Queen wouldn’t go to certain events with her there etc - so they really did stick it out.

MrsToothyBitch · 25/11/2020 22:27

@CommanderBurnham Edward also loathed "Kinging" as he called it. He loved being someone but hated the actual work of it. Given the social mores of the time
and growing understanding of PR - the rapid collapse of 9 european monarchies and the russian revolution were still quite fresh- he never could have made a suitable queen of Wallis (vile but beautifully coutured bitch that she was). Despite the protestations, I think he knew this and was, in some ways gratefully sought a way out. I think what he really hadn't banked on was quite how outcast he was. He had expected to stay king in many ways.

@DisgruntledPelican I also often wonder if C&C have ever watched Gavin & Stacey!

Love51 · 25/11/2020 22:27

I wouldn't want either of them for an in-law.

Look at it from their kids pov - so you loved this person but then decided to have a family with mum/dad then got back with the person you loved - why did you have me with someone else then?

Hepzibar · 25/11/2020 22:28

Absolutely agree with both statements

Not really. By all accounts Wallace never really wanted to marry him, he effectively bounced her into it and manoeuvred her into a position where she couldn't say no.
Fedupalways · 25/11/2020 22:30

You only see what they portray.

Smellbellina · 25/11/2020 22:30

I have a bit of a crush on Camilla I think, and a soft spot for Charles fuck knows why.
I liked Diana but have always found her unsettling, but having grown up and reading about the the scandal surrounding her interview with Bashir I have more empathy for her.
